4. Why filtration?
Economic pressure demands increased machine availability
Stable and reproducible printing quality demand consistent dampening
solution
IPA-reduced offset printing requires ideal dampening solution quality
Special printing processes (e.g. white ink) lead to further dampening
solution contamination
Conventional,
varnish or UV
printing
White ink
IPA-free
4 Paper dust
5. Why filtration?
If your dampening solution / dampening pan looks like this, how
can you control the printing process?
alpha.f fine filtration

6. Why filtration?
Contamination

Particle size distribution
Fine dirt,

dirt
0
0,10 1,00 2,00 3,00 5,00 8,00 [µm]
Dampening solution dirt can consist of various components
such as ink, paper, germs, varnish, etc.
Contamination varies with every print job
Particles always vary in size distribution, by means the
6
contamination is not homogeneous
7. Filtration Principle
technotrans 2 step deep filtration technology
Step 1:
Cartridge pre-filter
The pre-filter serves to remove coarse particles and the
contamination from the main fine filter
Step 2:
Deep-bed main filter
The main fine filter has a very high capacity for collecting dirt

8. Filtration Principle
By-pass filtration
7 main filter
+
2 cartridge pre filter
By-pass filtration …
… does not effect the flow and circulation to the printing units
… is consistent and attuned to the filter elements
… is a continuous process also when press stops or production
ends
8 … filter quality is continuously monitored by pressure sensor

11. Operation alpha.f
beta.f
Filter maintenance and life time
Pre- and main filter are the only consumables
Filter life time depends on contamination, and contamination
depends e.g. on ink and paper quality as well as the application
itself (special colours, little or a lot of spray powder, etc)
First time filtration users should clean the entire dampening
circulation system (dampening tank, intermediate tank, pipes,
trays)
Filtration quality is controlled by filter mash size / filter
characteristic
In general the pre-filter has to be replaced more often than the
main filter

12. Conclusion
Your benefits with technotrans fine filtration systems
Permanently clean and clear dampening
solution ensures consistent printing
conditions and enables high print quality
Continuous filtration process reduces the
requirement for dampening solution
exchange and thus increases productivity
and machine availability
Significantly reduction in dampening
solution exchange cut cost for additives,
disposal and overall press operation
Continuous filtrations results in a clean
dampening solution system (unit, trays, etc.)
and thus reduces maintenance costs and
press down time.

13. Conclusion
Do I need fine filtration?
…if your dampening solution is dirty
…pans and pipes require a lot of maintenance
…the printing quality shall be further stabilized
…you will go for IPA reduced or free printing
…your target is to reduce waste
…the press down time shall be further reduced
…reduced consumption of press chemicals
…general improvement of quality
…increase productivity
If you say yes to one or all of the above,
technotrans alpha.f is one solution to achieve your target
