You will be marked on your ability to research your chosen subject
and how well you use your research in your PRESENTATION SCRIPT
You will be judged not on the quantity of research carried out, but
on the quality of it

Research is more than just finding an article and
quoting it!
The aim of research is to enhance our understanding
of a subject and increase our knowledge of the
chosen subject area!
Your research will be collected in your ANNOTATED
CATALOGUE and you must provide an explanation of
HOW the research item has informed your
understanding of the chosen topic
Turn to the back of your course handbooks and read
the exemplar ANNOTATED CATALGOUE

We will now practice research and develop our skills
By the end of this task you will have:
• Found an academic article
• Read and annotated the article
• Create a blog post that
• Summarises the arguments/points in the
article
• Include media of examples that demonstrate
the points being made

Read the article and watch the accompanying videos
This is an example of the type of research you are going to carry
out today and during your research projects

You must now create a blog post similar to the one your have just read

Using the search engine, find an
article that covers a topic you are
interested in:
Film / Genre / Narrative / Star /
Director / Institution etc

Now you have found an article you must PRINT the work to the G17 printer
You must now annotated the work and highlight the following:
1. Write down who the article is by and when it was
written
2. Write down the key points from the essay - the key
points that are being made - exactly as they are written
in the magazine
3. Find a video clip or an image that illustrates the points
that are being made

You must include:
• Why you chose the article
• Who the article was written by and an overview of what it is about
• The main points of the article - including some quotations
• Whether or not you agree with the quotations - and why
• Videos and/or images of texts that relate to the ideas expressed in the
article with some analysis
• An overall opinion of the article

Log on to the internet and find a general article
that relates to your investigation
Task 2
Read the article and create a blog post
detailing your findings.
Your post must include:
1. Why you chose the article
2. Who the article was written by
and an overview of what it is
about
3. The main points of the article -
including some quotations
4. Whether or not you agree with
the quotations - and why
5. Videos and/or images of texts
that relate to the ideas
expressed in the article with
some analysis

In her theory ‘Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema’, Laura Mulvey
states:
“In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split
between active/male and passive/female. The determining male gaze projects
its phantasy on to the female form which is styled accordingly.
In their traditional exhibitionist role women are simultaneously looked at and
displayed, with their appearance coded for strong visual and erotic impact so
that they can be said to connote to-be-looked-at-ness.”
She goes on to say:
Women serve TWO functions within the narrative:
1. As an erotic object for the characters within the story
2. As an erotic object for the spectators within the auditorium
