Gamification typically involves applying game design
thinking to non-game applications to make them more fun
and engaging. Gamification is considered to be one of the
most important technology trends. Gamification can be
applied to almost any industry and almost anything to
create fun and engaging experiences, converting users
into players.

income of 35 to 75k. 58% are men and 42% are women.

• IBM‟s CityOne Smarter Planet SIM game had a ROI 100x’s the original
investment and successfully engaged their CIO target audience.
• Famer’s Insurance paired with Farmville and created an “Airship” that
would fly over a user‟s farm and provide 10 days worth of insurance for crops.
This resulted in 5 million downloads and Facebook fans skyrocketed to
120,000.
• Groupon has a ticking clock and time element, there‟s a team play tipping
point that must be met for the deal to be “on.”
• Volvo created a game call MyTown , a location based gaming service that
encouraged players to check-in to a dealership or garage to receive a virtual
sedan. This resulted in 5.3 million Volvo branded Check-ins, 1.3 million
received virtual goods, 20k clicks to view the S60 “In Action” and a CTR that
was double their average.

Typically, this term is used to categorize mobile apps involved
"checking in" to venues or apps used to find friends. Ambient
technology relates to your smartphone‟s ability to accurately and
continuously transmit your movements and geo-location.

Geofencing allows you to target individuals within a specified range
associated with a location. Apps utilizing this technology will push a
message to a user when they're near a certain location at a certain
time of day.

IBM created an Augmented Reality application called Seer for VIP business
leads attending Wimbledon. The mobile application combines augmented

more, get useful data and stats about the game and enjoy the live event more.

NFC allows smartphones to establish radio communication with each
other by bringing them into close proximity. Present and anticipated
applications include contactless transactions, data exchange, and

A new patent awarded to Apple hints that the company may be adding mobile
payments to the next version of the iPhone. The patent is called “Parental
Controls,” and it mentions restrictions on stored payment information.
he patent also hints that Apple may be integrating some sort of mobile
payment solution that can be used outside of its own ecosystem in the future.

21. Pinterest
Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board that allows users to share
images and links that they find inspiring. Once shared, the images
become “Pins” that can be placed on thematic “Boards” that users
can customize based on topic. Once something is “pinned” it can
then be “repinned” and liked by other users. Currently, Modis and
Adecco are utilizing this social platform.

23. Pinterest Tips
•Encourages consumerism, the majority of users are utilizing the network
to bookmark things that they want to purchase
•Think color, style and brand values. Pinterest is centered around
interests, like weddings, baby showers, home décor, gifts, recipes, etc.
Leverage these themes by creating mood boards relevant to your brand.
Mood boards should convey a consistent image.
•Pinterest supports hashtags, similar to Twitter. Because of the theme
nature of Pinterest, hashtags can offer organization support. For
example, tagging each of the pinned photographs “#aquamarine”
increases the chances that the West Elm mood board be found in search.

• New Profiles were released Friday, March 16th. The name and
description are now at the top of the page, order of boards is more
important, last image pinned shows at the top and is larger, see who is
following you and who they follow by referring to the nav bar.
