1. Conclusion on our CLIL project within Comenius.
During the last decade the youths of the western world have got access to a world wide arena of
communication thanks to the IT revolution.
Literally everything is within a click’s reach and languages mustn’t be a barrier to communication.
Hence language teaching must adapt to new circumstances. English and Spanish are rapidly
becoming world wide languages. This should not be seen as a threat to minor languages, but rather as a
challenge to change language teaching.
In our Comenius project we have practiced CLIL methodology for two years in the five participating
countries using English when teaching Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Social Science; all subject
focusing on the overall theme of A Sustainable Society.
We can conclude a deeper and better understanding among our students of the importance of cross
country communication. Moreover have our students come to understand that we share a mutual
responsibility for our continent; Our Europe – Our Future!.
Our project has brought youths from Spain, Italy, Poland, Luxemburg and Sweden together on an
intellectual level. The importance of understanding science has increased among our students and with
that the importance of good language skills.
