1. The New Google
A few days ago Google has changed the landscape of its search engine. It has moved closer to the
concept of Web 3.0. Google can now not only provide you with information about an item but it can
also provide you with information about that item with different aspects. Google has launched
several new features on top of its simple search functionality. You can now see images, videos,
news, books, blogs, updates, discussions and the usual generic web search results about the item
you have searched for.
Let me show you what I exactly mean. Let us start by searching the keywords “colmar brunton”.
As you can see from the illustration above, the search engine now provides us with information in
different aspects. As we dive a bit deeper into them, the following unfolds:
Images
When we click on the “images” link we are redirected to the image search results for Colmar
Brunton. Now this feature already existed. The additional attributes Google added to this feature are
the abilities to filter on the search result by “Any type” and “Any color” as highlighted below.
2. Videos
Now if you thought “Images” was amazing. You will be blown away by clicking on the “Videos” link.
Google has owned YouTube for some time now. But it has now taken the step forward to seamlessly
integrate this into its search engine. You should be able to see all YouTube videos related to Colmar
Brunton now. But hang on. Google is not only retrieving videos from YouTube but they are also
digging into the video repository of vimeo.com!
3. To make the life of the users easier, Google has also provided them with guided filter. This is where
you are able to filter on videos according to the web, duration, time, relevance, quality and source.
Maps
Google has also now seamlessly integrated the Google Maps application into its search engine.
When the “maps” link was clicked, it provided me with a global view of all the Colmar Brunton
offices.
4. News
To add on top of the plethora of information Google also exposes what the online news agencies are
talking about an item. When we click on the news link we are provided with news from around the
globe:
5. Books
Ever thought how Google Books will have a better integration into the Google Search engine. Well
now it has. Simply by clicking on the books link the users are presented with a result set of books
that relate to “colmar brunton”.
6. Now as you can see Google did not just stop there. Once again Google has provided a guided filter.
This time the user can also browse through their “own” library or view the entire book repository
held by Google from the guided filter section.
Blogs
You would think that we have viewed enough information already. But Google does not think so. By
clicking on the blogs link you will be presented with the result set of what the blogs are talking about
“colmar brunton”.
7. Updates
Google has absolutely started the Web 3.0 revolution by adding in the “updates” feature to its
search engine. This is where it has integrated with the Twitter application to bring to us what people
are “tweeting” about Colmar Brunton.
8. Discussions
That was a long list of features. Oh wait! There’s one more! Google is also presenting to you what
people are talking about “colmar brunton” in different forums!
Now will this extensive list keep growing? I would probably say so. What if Google can search for
podcasts relating to “colmar brunton”? Won’t that be cool?
