ANCONA LA CITTA’ DORICA
Ancona the doric town
Ogni luogo ad Ancona è in
grado di offrire una sugge-
stione che supera la semplice
esperienza visiva, qualcosa
di più profondo che riesce a
creare un incantato stupore in
chi la osserva. Fondata 2.400
anni fa dai greci, Ancona è un
vero e proprio museo a cielo
aperto dove strade, luoghi e
piazze, raccontano della sua
lunga storia.
L’Arco di Traiano, situato nel
cuore del porto, è la porta
che conduce all’Ancona
più antica che va scoperta a
piedi: passando davanti alle
mura romane del porto, si
sale verso Piazza del Senato.
E qui sono concentrati tutti i
luoghi d’interesse culturale,
a pochi metri l’uno dall’altro,
e a pochi passi si arriva alla
Cattedrale di San Ciriaco che,
dall’alto continua a vegliare
sulla città e sul mare affac-
ciandosi su un magnifico
panorama.

Dalle centralissime vie dello
shopping, percorrendo Viale
della Vittoria si raggiunge un
altro tra i luoghi più sugge-
stivi di Ancona, il Passetto.

Every place at Ancona is in a posi-
tion to offer something more than a
simple visual experience, something
deeper, a spellbinding experience
for those who see it.
Founded 2,400 years ago by the
Greeks, Ancona is a real open
airmuseum
where streets, places and squares,
reveal its long history.
The Arco di Traiano, situated in the
heart of the port, is the gate leading
to the most ancient part of Ancona,
which should be explored on foot:
passing in front of the Roman walls
of the port, climb up towards the
Piazza del Senato. And here all of
the places of interest are within a
few metres of each, near the Ca-
thedral of San Ciriaco, which keeps
watch over the town and the sea,
with a magnificent panorama.

From the very central streets of the
shopping area, go up Viale della
Victory until reaching another of the
most charming places at Ancona,
the Passetto. A wide terrace over the
sea that offers an amazing view over
the north part of the Conero.

uno dei cimiteri ebraici più
antichi di tutta Europa e poi
proseguire fino all’antico faro
a picco sul mare.
The Cardeto park is a large town
park where, among the woods of
hawthorn, broom and wallflowers
some important tracks of the history
of Ancona are to be found. Here,
in fact, you can visit one of the
oldest Jewish cemeteries in Europe
and then continue to the ancient
lighthouse on a cliff over looking
the sea.

UN BORGO PREZIOSO NEL CONERO
An exquisitely beautiful village in the Conero
Sirolo è un elegante bor-
go che sorge su scogliere a
picco sul mare, immerso nella
natura del Parco del Cone-
ro, e conserva un impianto
di antico borgo medievale.
Una passeggiata per il centro
cittadino si snoda tra “vigoli e
vigoletti”, botteghe artigiane
e boutique alla moda fino alla
grande piazza panoramica al
centro del paese. Fermatevi su
questa terrazza naturale sul
mare e gustatevi lo strabilian-
te panorama sul Conero che,
nei giorni più limpidi, vi con-
durrà con lo sguardo fino alle
isole Kornati e alla Croazia.
Sirolo is an elegant village perched
on a cliff overhanging the sea, im-
mersed in the nature of the Conero
Nature Reserve, it has the layout of
an medieval village. A walk in the
centre takes you along alleys and
little streets, among craftsmen’s
shops and fashion boutiques to the
wide, open panoramic square in the
centre of the village.
Stop on this natural terrace over
the sea and enjoyed the amazing
panorama of the Conero, and from
where, on the clearest days, you can
see the Kornati islands and Croatia.

Il Teatro Cortesi è lo storico
teatro di Sirolo, splendido
esempio di ottocentesco tea-
tro “bomboniera”, al suo inter-
no si respira un’atmosfera
d’altri tempi, basta che alziate
gli occhi per restare a bocca
aperta davanti allo scintillante
lampadario avvolto dalle fi-
gure di dieci donne danzanti.
Il Teatro offre un ricco carnet
di spettacoli durante tutto
l’anno. In estate non potete
perdervi la magia di assistere
ad uno spettacolo al Teatro
alla Cave di Sirolo, uno spazio
di 3.500 posti ricavato da una
cava dismessa all’interno di
un bosco. In più di 30 anni
grandi artisti come Dario
Fo, Franca Rame e Roberto
Benigni hanno calcato questo
palcoscenico sotto le stelle.

The Cortesi Theatre is the historical
theatre of Sirolo, a splendid example
of a nineteenth century “chocolate
box” theatre. Inside the atmosphere
is of past times, just look up and see
sparkling chandelier surrounded by
the figures of ten dancing women.
The theatre offers a rich year-round
programme of plays and music.
Don’t miss the magic of watching a
show at Sirolo’s Teatro alla Cave in
the summer, 3,500 seats in a disused
cave in the woods. In a period of
more than 30 years artists such as
Dario Fo, Franca Rame and Roberto
Benigni have performed on this
stage under the stars.

DEL CONERO
Numana the lady
of the Conero
Numana conserva la sua
origine marinara nella parte
alta, dove un fitto reticolo di
viuzze abbraccia le colorate
casette dei pescatori e si apre
poi in un ampio belvedere
affacciato sul mare. Qui si
eleva maestoso anche l’arco,
simbolo cittadino, resto di
un’antica torre trecentesca.
Dal centro si scende verso il
porto attraverso l’antica via a
gradoni, la Costarella, che i
pescatori percorrevano ogni
mattina all’alba. Siete arrivati
alla parte bassa di Numana,
quella più moderna e vivace,
ricca di locali e stabilimenti.
Numana conserves its seafaring ori-
gins in the upper part of the town,
where a dense network of alleys
embraces the little coloured fisher-
men’s houses and then it opens out
onto a sweeping view overlooking
the sea. Here the arch, the remains
of the ancient fourteenth-century
tower and symbol of the village,
raises majestically. From the centre
go down the flight of steps, the Co-
starella, towards the port, which the
fishermen went down every mor-
ning at dawn. You have reached the
lower part of Numana, the modern
and lively part, full of restaurants,
cafés bars and lidos.

The legend of the
miraculous Crucifix
Le spiagge di Numana da anni
vengono premiate con il titolo
di Bandiera Blu europea per
la pulizia e la vivibilità che le
contraddistingue. Un lungo-
mare che dalla parte alta della
città si snoda fino a Marcelli,
declinando litorali diversi:
dalle spiagge selvagge delle
insenature del monte Conero,
alle ampie distese di ghiaia
degli stabilimenti balneari
attrezzati con tutti i servizi.
The beaches of Numana have for ye-
ars now been awarded a European
blue flag for the cleanliness and
the comfort and convenience that
distinguish them. A promenade
which from the upper part of the
town leads to Marcelli, passing
through various different lidos: from
the wild beaches of the inlets of
Mount Conero, to the wide pebbly
expanses of the lidos equipped with
all the necessary services.
Le tradizioni di questa città
sono legate al miracoloso
Crocifisso, conservato
nell’omonimo Santuario,
che secondo la tradizione
fu eseguito da coloro
che deposero il corpo di
Cristo dalla croce. Si tratta
comunque di un’opera di stile
bizantino di notevole pregio
artistico e storico che, al di
là della leggenda, merita di
essere ammirata.
The traditions of this village are
tied to the miraculous Crucifix,
conserved in Sanctuary of the same
name, that according to tradition
was made by those who took the
body of Christ down from the cross.
It is, in any case, a Byzantine style
work of considerable artistic and
historical importance, which aside
from the legend, deserves to be seen.

From the Arena Gigli to the
horserace of San Giovanni
Nell’ampio cortile del Castel-
lo Svevo è ospitata l’Arena
intitolata al tenore recanatese
Beniamino Gigli che, durante
l’estate, diventa il palcosce-
nico di un ampio carnet di
eventi culturali.
Per le strade del centro ogni
estate potrete assistere, oltre
ai tanti concerti e spettacoli,
tra cui serate a tema come la
Notte + Rosa (mese di giugno)
e la Notte Vintage (mese di
agosto) alla rievocazione del
Palio di San Giovanni, una
corsa di cui sono protagonisti
gli “sciabegotti” (pescatori
con la sciabiga) che si sfidano
portando ceste di vimini
colme di pesce. Il Palio è una
rievocazione di un passato in
cui i pescatori correvano per
essere i primi ad arrivare al
mercato.

Svevo Castle there is the Arena
named after the tenor from Recanati
Beniamino Gigli, which during the
summer becomes the stage for a
wide variety of cultural events.
In the streets of the centre, every
summer you can see the Palio di San
Giovanni, a horse race in which the
protagonists are the “sciabegotti”
(fishermen with nets) that compete
with wicker baskets full of fish. The
Palio recalls a past in which fisher-
men raced to be the first to arrive at
the market.

Ogni anno nell’ultima setti-
mana di settembre Potenza
Picena dà il via ai festeg-
giamenti per la Festa del
Grappolo d’Oro che richiama
turisti da tutto il centro Italia.
La città si colora di bandiere e
stendardi e le vie diventano il
palcoscenico di spettacoli live
di musica e intrattenimento.

The last week of September sees
the launch of the annual festivities
in Potenza Picena for the Grappolo
d’Oro (Golden Cluster) Festi-
val, which attracts tourists from
throughout central Italy. The town
is adorned with flags and banners
and the streets host live music and
performances.
Two days’ of traditional flavours and
wines from the Conero hills with
tastings on the Saturday at the many
stands scattered around the town
centre, and the traditional parade
on the Sunday, with floats and grape
harvest sketches in local dialect.

Loreto, tra le verdi colline del
Conero, è meta di pellegrinag-
gi dai tempi antichi e ancora
oggi resta uno dei cuori pul-
santi della cristianità.
Il Santuario della Santa Casa
di Loreto è un raro esempio
di basilica fortezza, che in tre
secoli, grazie alla collabora-
zione di valenti artisti tra cui
il Bramante e il Vanvitelli, è
sorta per custodire, nel suo
cuore, un prezioso gioiello: le
mura della Santa Casa di Ma-
ria di Nazaret che, secondo
la tradizione cristiana, venne
prodigiosamente trasporta-
ta in volo dagli angeli fino a
Loreto. All’interno della santa
casa è anche conservata la
statua della “Madonna Nera”,
protettrice degli aviatori e
al centro della devozione
mariana.

pilgrimage destination since
ancient times and is still today
one of the mainstays of Chri-
stianity.
The Sanctuary of the Holy
House of Loreto is a rare
example of a basilica-fortress,
built over three centuries,
thanks to the collaboration
of talented artists including
Bramante and Vanvitelli, to
preserve a precious jewel at
its very heart: the walls of
the Holy House of Mary of
Nazareth, which, according
to Christian tradition, was
prodigiously flown by the an-
gels to Loreto. The holy house
also preserves a statue of the
“Black Madonna”, patron
saint of aviators, and corner-
stone of Marian devotion.

you follow the Scala Sancti. Step after
step (there are 400 in all), you will be
tired yet satisfied when you reach the top
and are greeted by the Sanctuary’s white

Per difendere il Santuario del-
la Santa Casa dalle incursioni
dei pirati, vennero costruiti
dei baluardi difensivi che
hanno reso il Santuario un’i-
nespugnabile cittadella della
fede. Attraverso un percorso
che dura circa 45 minuti è
possibile ripercorrere i cam-
minamenti di ronda da cui si
gode una vista mozzafiato su
Loreto e sull’intera costa del
Conero.
The defensive ramparts, built to
defend the Sanctuary of the Holy
House from pirate raids, have
transformed the sanctuary into
an impenetrable citadel of faith.
The patrol walkways, with their
breathtaking views over Loreto and
the entire Conero coastline, can be
visited in about 45 minutes.
Dall’ingresso laterale alla Basilica, pas-
sando sotto il porticato potete accedere
alla Sala del Pomarancio e verrete com-
pletamente rapiti dai colori della volta
affrescata e circondata da intarsi d’oro.
All’interno del Palazzo Apostolico si
trova invece l’esposizione del Museo
dell’Antico Tesoro, 30 sale con arredi del
XVI e XVII secolo in cui potrete ammirare
nove tele del Lotto, una collezione di
pregevoli arazzi fiamminghi, arredi sacri
e tanto altro in una collezione davvero di
grande pregio.

the colonnade to gain access to the Pomarancio
Hall. You will be completely blown away by the
colours of the frescoed vaulted ceiling, sur-
rounded by gold inlays.
The Apostolic Palace hosts the Museum of
Ancient Treasure exhibition, which is organised
over 30 rooms that boast 16th and 17th furniture
and showcase nine Lotto canvases, a collection
of valued Flemish tapestries, religious ornaments
and much more in a truly valuable collection.

di Stelle” event is celebrated every
year in the city’s streets and in the
gardens of Via Saffi, known locally as
the “Piazza Nova” (“New Square”),
with local wine tasting events, poin-
ted telescopes and a wide variety of
cultural events and entertainment.
La prima domenica di Agosto
di ogni anno, Campocavallo
celebra l’arte contadina e il
sentimento religioso con la
sfilata del tradizionale Covo:
un’opera artigianale in scala,
riprodotta interamente con
spighe di grano, raffigurante
un simbolo della fede maria-
na nel mondo. L’esposizione
dell’opera presso il Museo del
Covo è seguita dagli imman-
cabili giochi, danze popolari e
stand gastronomici.
On the first Sunday in August every
year, Campocavallo celebrates rural
art and religious sentiment with a
parade of the traditional “Covo”: an
artisan scale product, entirely craf-
ted from what sheaves, depicting a
symbol of Marian faith in the world.
The work is the exhibited at the
Covo Museum, and the celebration
continues with traditional games,
folk dances and food stands.

Castelfidardo è famosa per la
produzione artigianale della
fisarmonica, uno dei sim-
boli della musica italiana nel
mondo. Tutto in città rimanda
alla fisarmonica, in partico-
lare il Museo Internazionale
allestito all’interno del Palaz-
zo Comunale che ripercorre
le tappe storiche di questa
produzione attraverso rievo-
cazioni precise e nostalgiche.
Più di 350 pezzi tra fisarmo-
niche, organetti, bandoneon
e concertine, e poi reperti che
raccontano la storia di questo
strumento.
Dal primo disco registrato con
la fisarmonica, alla partitura
originale di “Adios Nonino”di
Astor Piazzolla fino a una let-
tera di Federico Fellini. Sull’al-
to di una collina, attorniato
da un parco, sorge un monu-
mento unico nel suo genere
che commemora la battaglia
risorgimentale di Castefidar-
do, che ha visto contrapporsi
l’esercito piemontese e quello
pontificio.
Castelfidardo famously produces ar-
tisan accordions, a symbol of Italian
music throughout the world.
Everything in the town harps back
to the accordion, especially the
International Museum set up inside
the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall),
that traces the history of accordion
production through accurate and
nostalgic re-enactments. More
than 350 pieces including accor-
dions, harmonicas, bandoneon and
concertinas, plus exhibits that tell
the instrument’s story. From the first
accordion record recorded, to the
original scores of Astor Piazzolla’s
“Adios Nonino” to a letter from
Federico Fellini.
High on a hill and surrounded by a
park, stands a unique monument
commemorating the Renaissance
Battle of Castefidardo, which saw
the Piedmontese and the Papal
armies clash.

storia musicale, ha fatto bal-
lare generazioni di persone,
ha fatto da tappeto musicale a
magnifiche serenate d’amore
e i più grandi musicisti del
mondo hanno acquistato fi-
sarmoniche costruite proprio
a Castelfidardo. Ogni anno
Castelfidardo ospita il Festival
Internazionale della Fisarmo-
nica, una rassegna musicale
dove artisti da tutto il mondo
salgono sul palco per esibirsi
in spettacolari perfomance.

2015 si terrà dal 17 al 20 di
Settembre.

backdrop for magnificent serenade.
In addition, the world’s greatest
musicians purchased accordions
made in Castelfidardo. Castelfidar-
do hosts an annual International
Accordion Festival, a music festival
where artists from all around the
world take to the stage to take part
in spectacular performances. Mark

La città di Filottrano è posta
su una delle più belle colline
delle Marche in un punto
di collegamento tra il mare
e i monti. Il centro storico,
circondato dalle mura castel-
lane, offre ai visitatori scorci
suggestivi, che sussurrano
storie di un passato lontano. A
due passi dalla città si posso-
no ammirare la splendida Vil-
la Centofinestre e la maestosa
Villa Montepolesco, circonda-
ta da un prezioso parco. Da
non perdere la “Casa-Museo
Beltrami” che conserva ogget-
ti e manufatti di popolazioni
indigene americane. Nello
stesso palazzo potete fare
visita al Museo del Biroccio
Marchigiano, il tipico carro a
due ruote trainato da buoi, si
tratta di veri e propri capola-
vori unici nelle loro fantasiose
e colorate decorazioni. Il
Museo è aperto ogni prima
domenica del mese con eventi
culturali folk e visite guidate.
Nel vicino Palazzo Ex Orland,
in vicolo Beltrami, potrete vi-
sitare il Museo della Battaglia
di Filottrano, ricco di cimeli e
reperti dell’epoca. Aperto tutti
i sabati ed ogni prima dome-
nica del mese, 10-12.30.
Antiche chiese impreziosi-
scono le vie del centro storico
come la Chiesa di San
Cristoforo del 1218.
Una particolarità unica di
Filottrano è l’angolo delle cin-
que Chiese dal quale si pos-
sono ammirare i campanili
delle chiese di San Francesco,
Santa Chiara, Sacre Stimmate,
Santa Maria degli Angeli e San
Michele Arcangelo.
Nella Chiesa di Santa Maria
Assunta, detta anche “la
Pieve” è conservato un antico
organo settecentesco e un
patrimonio artistico condiviso
con le altre chiese.
Potrete respirare un po’ della
tradizione e del folklore di
questa città durante le nume-

underwent an industrial revolution
and became a point of reference for
men’s fashion. Filottrano products
are made by major fashion houses

The city of Filottrano is located on
one of the most beautiful hills in
the Marche Region, at a point where
the sea and mountains meet. The
historic centre, surrounded by the
castle walls, gives visitors breathta-
king views, that whisper stories of
a distant past. The wonderful Villa
Centofinestre and the majestic Villa
Montepolesco are surrounded by a
beautiful park, just a stone’s throw
away from the town. The “Beltrani
house-museum” which preserves
items and artefacts made by indige-
nous American people, is well worth
a visit. The Biroccio Marchigiano
Museum (Le Marche Cart Museum),
in the same building, has typical
two-wheeled ox-drawn carts on
display that are true masterpieces
with uniquely imaginative and
brightly coloured decoration. The
Museum is open every first Sunday
of the month with folk and cultural
events and guided tours.
The nearby Palazzo Ex Orland, in Vi-
colo Beltrami, is home to the Museo
della Battaglia di Filottrano (Battle
of Filottrano Museum), which
preserves relics and artefacts from
that time. Open every Saturday and
on the first Sunday of every month,
10-12.30.
Ancient churches, such as the
Church of San Cristoforo built in
1218, adorn the streets of the histo-
ric centre. A unique in Filottrano
is the corner of the five Churches
from which the bell towers of the
churches of San Francesco, St. Clare,
Santa Chiara, Sacre Stimmate, Santa
Maria degli Angeli and San Michele
Arcangelo can be admired.
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta,
also known as “la Pieve” features
an ancient, 18th century organ and
a shared artistic heritage with the
other churches.
Take in some of the town’s tradition
and folklore during the many
feasts and festivals that make local
evening come alive. Experience
the mediaeval atmosphere of the
Contesa dello Stivale boot race on
the first Sunday in August.

Sull’alto delle dolci colline
marchigiane è adagiato que-
sto borgo di antiche origini
che prende il nome dalla divi-
nità dei raccolti, Faunus.
Il nostro consiglio è quello
di avvicinarvi a Montefano
scegliendo un itinerario che
passa dalle campagne, in
queste zone infatti le colline si
aprono in ampie vallate in un
dolce saliscendi tra girasoli,
campi di grano e vigne.
Città d’arte e cultura, Mon-
tefano ha dato i natali al
fotografo delle dive Arturo
Ghergo e ospita un teatro
ottocentesco progettato da
Tombolini, direttore tecnico
del Teatro La Fenice di Vene-
zia. Se volete vivere un po’
dello spirito di questo borgo

Amid the Conero hills
Montefano è raccolto all’in-
terno delle antiche mura di
cui rimane ancora il torrione
(1453) dell’originario accesso
al borgo. Il centro, che si in-
treccia in stretti vicoli, merita
sicuramente una passeggiata
con il naso all’insù per am-
mirare le tipiche abitazioni in
mattoni rossi. Una curiosità:
tra questi vicoli troverete an-
che la casa in cui è nato Papa
Marcello II (1501).
Due sono le chiese in stile
barocco che potete visitare
a Montefano: la Collegiata
di San Donato dove è anche
conservato l’antico organo
artigianale (1722) e la chiesa
di San Filippo con il suo con-
vento, all’interno del quale
si trova il noto centro studi
biblici G. Vannucci.
Montefano is surrounded by ancient
walls and the original gate tower is
still standing. The town centre is a
maze of winding alleys and is well
worth a visit. Remember to look
up to admire the typical red-brick
houses! Point of interest: the house
in which Pope Marcellus II was born
is to be found among these alleys.
In Montefano you can visit two
churches in the Baroque style: the
Collegiata of San Donato where an
ancient handcrafted organ is preser-
ved (1722), and San Filippo Church
with its monastery, which has inside
the famous center of biblical studies
G. Vannucci.

name from Fanum, the harvest
deity, is nestled high on the rolling

The best way to approach Monte-
fano is to choose an itinerary that
passes through the countryside as
the hills gently roll into vast valleys
with sunflowers, wheat fields and
vineyards.
City of art and culture, Montefano
is the birthplace of Arturo Ghergo,
photographer to the stars, and bo-
asts a 19th century theatre designed
by Tombolini, technical director of
the La Fenice Theatre in Venice.

Nell’ultima settimana di luglio
il centro storico di Offagna
per un’intera settimana si
trasforma in antica città me-
dievale con magie, giocolerie,
guerrieri e tenzoni. Si tratta
della settimana dedicata alle
Feste Medievali in cui potrete
assistere a spettacoli come
esibizioni di falchi in volo,
scene di vita militare, ani-
mazione di strada e giochi di
bandiere al ritmo dei tamburi.
In the last week of July, the historic
centre of Offagna is transformed
into an ancient medieval town for
one week, with spells, juggling, war-
riors and duels. This is Mediaeval
Festival week and the town comes
alive with events such as hawk
flying, scenes from army life, street
performances and flag throwing
competitions synchronised to the
beat of the drums.

Agugliano è un borgo di anti-
chissime origini che, dall’età
medievale, rappresenta uno
dei venti castelli storici del
capoluogo dorico. Dell’antico
castello è oggi visibile solo
l’antica cinta muraria e tre
torri rompitratta situate a
Castel d’Emilio, frazione di
Agugliano. In questo piccolo
borgo potete perdervi nelle
tradizioni e nei ritmi della
colorata campagna marchi-
giana.
Agugliano is a village with ancient
roots that dates back to the Middle
Ages. It is one of twenty historical
castles in the municipal Doric capi-
tal. Only the old city walls and three
towers remain. The latter are located
in the Castel d’Emilio, district of
Agugliano. When visiting this small
villages, visitors can lose themselves
in the traditions and rhythms of the
coloured Le Marche countryside.

Agugliano has a long tradition of

InTeatro Performing Arts Festival
held in July every year with artists
performing in courtyards, squares
and cellars, to the Witches’ Festival
at the end of September during
which the entire historic centre is
transformed into an enchanted
castle, cellars and gardens magically
become fearsome caverns, esoteric
laboratories and mysterious
cemeteries.

e una villa decorata entrambe
risalenti all’epoca romana.
Un viaggio a Santa Maria Nuo-
va deve obbligatoriamente
concludersi con una merenda
o un pasto tipico dell’en-
troterra collinare: crescia e
salumi sono assolutamente
perfetti, buon appetito!

In the Pietrolone area, an archaeo-
logical site is open to the public. The
site preserves evocative evidence of
the past including a funerary aedi-
cule and a decorated villa that both
date back to Roman times.
A trip to Santa Maria Nuova isn’t
complete without a snack or a tra-
ditional inland hillside dish: crescia
(traditional and charcuterie are
absolutely perfect, buon appetito!

Come raggiungerla: Via mare o a
piedi attraverso due sentieri uno che
scende lungo la SP del Conero al km
5,4 o da un altro prima della rotonda di
Portonovo dove trovate uno spiazzo in
cui parcheggiare. Consigliamo scarpe
comode!
Tipo di spiaggia: Sabbia, Renella e Rocce.
Non ci sono stabilimenti balneari, ma
solo un piccolo bar/ristorante. Bagni
e docce sono pubblici; la spiaggia ad
una certa ora del giorno viene coperta
dall’ombra del monte.
40. PORTONOVO
Portonovo famosa per la natura
incontaminata e la bellezza delle sue
spiagge è immersa nel verde della natura
del Monte Conero. Qui si susseguono
spiagge selvagge e stabilimenti balneari
attrezzati. Nella zona della baia potrete
andare in esplorazione dei sentieri che
attraversano un piccolo boschetto che
porta poi al mare. Scoprirete gioielli
incastonati nella sua vegetazione come
i laghetti, la torre Clementina o la
chiesetta di Santa Maria di Portonovo.
Come raggiungerla: Si può scendere
direttamente fino alla baia con mezzi
propri oppure parcheggiare vicino alla
rotatoria e raggiungere la spiaggia con
la navetta. Tipo di spiaggia: mista a
seconda della zona della baia: sassi o
ghiaia – si consigliano comunque
scarpe comode.
38. PASSETTO BEACH AND THE CAVES,
ANCONA
Go down the flights of steps under the War
Memorial or through the pine groves on the left
of the Memorial and you will reach the spiaggia
del Passetto, the town’s beach, hidden among the
curves of Ancona’s coastline. A few steps from the
streets of the central shopping area, it is perfect
for a day by the sea but also for an evening in one
of the restaurants or cafés on piles.
Here you will find beach facilities where you relax
in the sun.
Nascosti tra le vie cittadine o immersi
nella natura, in tutta la costa della Riviera
del Conero potete trovare angoli che vi
lasceranno con il fiato sospeso per la loro
bellezza e per l’atmosfera da spiaggia
segreta. Spesso la strada è lunga e non
delle più semplici, ma vi assicuriamo
che ne vale la pena.
Da Ancona fino Numana qualche angolo
prezioso da scoprire.
38. LA SPIAGGIA DEL PASSETTO
E LE GROTTE, ANCONA
Scendendo le scalinate sotto il
monumento dei Caduti oppure passando
dalla pineta alla sinistra del monumento
si raggiunge la spiaggia del Passetto,
la spiaggia cittadina, nascosta tra le
pieghe di Ancona. A pochi passi dalle
vie centrali dello shopping è perfetta per
una giornata di mare ma anche per una
serata in uno dei locali su palafitta.
Qui potete trovare stabilimenti balneari
in cui rilassarvi al sole.
Le grotte del Passetto
La costa in questo punto è costellata di
colorate grotte scavati nella roccia che i
pescatori un tempo utilizzavano come
rifugio per le imbarcazioni e oggi sono
invece rifugio estivo per i “grottaroli”
le cui estati sono allietate da mangiate
di pesce fresco e pennichella. La sera
la costa si trasforma in un firmamento
illuminato dalle fitte lucine delle grotte.
Come raggiungerla: Dal Passetto salire
verso via Thaon de Revel e prendere il
sentiero di fronte alla pista di pattinaggio
lato mare. Nel periodo estivo potete
anche scendere con l’ascensore
panoramico.

Una baia completamente immersa nella
natura del Parco del Conero, 10 minuti
di un ripido stradello e sarete ripagati
da una delle spiagge più suggestive del
Conero. Se poi proseguite a sinistra
potete raggiungere il Trave, una lingua
rocciosa che si allunga nel mare come
una banchina naturale. Al Trave vedrete
camminare donne e uomini ricoperti

Unique views and characteristic spots
The Passetto caves
This stretch of the rocky coastline is dotted with
small coloured caves dug out for use, in the past,
by fishermen as a shelter for their boats and,
today, as summer shelters for feasts of fresh fish
and naps. In the evening the coast is transformed
into a world lit up by the lights from the caves.
How to get there: From Passetto go to Via Thaon
de Revel and take the path in front of the skating
rink on the sea side. In the summer it is also
possible to take the panoramic lift.
Type of beach: Rocky coastline, not suitable for
swimming
39. MEZZAVALLE AND THE TRAVE
A bay completely immersed in the nature of the
Conero Reserve, 10 minutes of a steep little track
and you will be rewarded with one of the most
striking beaches of the Conero area. If you then
continue to the left you will reach the Trave, a
rocky tongue that extends out into the sea like a
natural pier. At the Trave you will see women and
men covered in mud walking along, don’t panic:
in the area it is customary to help yourself to a bit
of clay from the slopes of the mountain and take
advantage of the natural clay.
How to get there: By sea or on foot on two paths,
one that goes down along the provincial road of
the Conero to the 5.4 km mark or on another path
before the Portonovo roundabout where you will
find an area to park.
We recommend comfortable shoes!
Type of beach: Sand, Pebbles and Rocks. There
are no lidos, but only a small bar/restaurant.
Toilets and showers are public; the beach, at
a certain time of day, is in the shade of the
mountain.
40. PORTONOVO
Portonovo is well-known for its uncontaminated
nature and the beauty of its beaches, it is
immersed in the greenery of Monte Conero. Wild
beaches and well-equipped lidos alternate. In
the bay area you can explore the paths that go
through a small wood leading to the sea. You will
discover gems set in the greenery, like the ponds,
the Clementina tower or the little church of Santa
Maria di Portonovo.
How to get there: You can go all the way down
to the bay with your car or park near the
roundabout and reach the beach with the shuttle
bus service.
Type of beach: Mixed, depending on the part of
the bay: stones or pebbles - comfortable shoes
are recommended.

usual seaside routine, hire a
rubber dinghy or take advantage
of the Conero ferries to get to the
Spiaggia delle Due Sorellle: crystal
clear sea, two white sea stacks that
emerge from the water and a large
cove at the foot of the mountain.
In the summer there is the risk of
overcrowding, but it is worth it!
Next to the Due Sorelle beach is
the Spiaggia dei Gabbiani which is
reachable only by sea; among its
white boulders the remains of the
Grotta degli Schiavi are hidden.
They say that a Saracen admiral left
his prisoners here.

Nella Spiaggia di San Michele il mare è
così trasparente che raggiunge un tono di
blu davvero unico. Passando per il viale
di Parco della Repubblica si scende a un
punto panoramico e costeggiando una
staccionata in legno si sbuca proprio
in spiaggia. La Spiaggia di San Michele
comunica con l’adiacente Spiaggia dei
Sassi Neri, il nome deriva dalle rocce
scure che si intravedono nei fondali e
danno alle acque particolari sfumature
scure. La Spiaggia Urbani con la sua
forma a mezzaluna abbraccia un tratto
di costa compreso tra una rupe di roccia
bianca e una grotta naturale. Sul sentiero
tra la grotta e la spiaggia è possibile
deviare per la scogliera de I Lavi.
Tipo di spiaggia: ghiaia e ghiaia fine.
Come raggiungerla: San Michele e Sassi
Neri dal sentiero che si prende nel Parco
della Repubblica di Sirolo; per la Spiaggia
Urbani scendendo dalla strada a lato del

la presenza di stabilimenti e possibilità di
spiaggia libera alle estremità.
Come raggiungerla: Dal Porticciolo di
Numana o dalla via che dal centro, in
direzione dell’arco, scende verso il mare.

DI MARCELLI DI NUMANA
Vacanza comoda per tutta la famiglia,
ciabatte, telo mare e... via verso la
spiaggia, basta attraversare la strada
e avete a disposizione il colorato
lungomare di Numana tra stabilimenti
attrezzati, bar e ristorantini. Alla sera una
passeggiata sul lungomare e una cenetta
in uno dei tanti locali saranno l’epilogo
perfetto di una giornata di mare.

Poco prima di entrare a Porto Recanati
si incontrano le spiagge di Scossicci con

o per rilassarsi coccolati dal sole.
Addentrandosi invece nel centro
cittadino, proprio di fronte al corso
centrale sfilano le spiagge attrezzate
che regalano una magnifica visione sul
Monte Conero fino ad arrivare alla zona
sud di Porto Recanati: la Pineta.

the sea, here is a brief guide to which beaches to
go to for a completely relaxing time in a unique
context.
42. SAN MICHELE, SASSI NERI AND SPIAGGIA
URBANI, SIROLO
On the San Michele beach the sea is so
transparent that is an incredible dark blue colour.
Take the avenue in the Parco della Repubblica
which goes down at a panoramic point, skirting a
wooden fence and coming out right on the beach.
The Spiaggia di San Michele is connected to the
adjacent Spiaggia dei Sassi Neri, which takes it
name from the dark rocks that can be seen on the
sea floor and give the water a particular dark hue.
Spiaggia Urbani with its half-moon shape
embraces a stretch of coastline between a white
cliff and a natural cave. On the path between
the cave and the beach it is possible to take a
deviation for the de I Lavi reef.
Type of beach: Pebbles and sand.
43. THE BEACHES OF NUMANA ALTA
Two connected beaches a few steps from the
centre of the town, protected by the rocks in front
which form a breakwater and with the cliffs of
Monte Conero behind. Ideal for children who can

MARCELLI DI NUMANA

Just before entering Porto Recanati there are the

There are many legends linked to this place; it
would seem that in the belly of this underground
quarry there is hidden treasure, kept by the spirits
of the quarrymen.
Then continue in the direction of Ancona;
here among the alleys and the voices in the
town centre you will find the Chiesa di Santa
Maria della Piazza from where you can access
an underground route to discover the temples
constructed on the site before the building of the
church.
Then go back towards the hills to Osimo to
visit the underground chambers of the town,
there are two hypogea in Osimo: the Grotte del
Cantinone accessible from Via Fonte Magna and
the Grotte Fregonara-Gallo in piazza Dante. A
maze of arcades, tunnels and underground wells
excavated in the sandstone and rich in mysteries.

From here you can easily reach the village of
Camerano with its chambers dug by the Picentini
and decorated bas-reliefs and religious motives.

Un Conero diverso, nascosto sotto la
superficie, fatto di misteri e suggestioni
di cui potrete andare alla scoperta in un
percorso che parte dal Parco del Conero
e arriva fino a Osimo.
All’interno del Parco del Conero, tra
il Poggio e Massignano, prendendo il
sentiero 307 si arriva alle grotte romane
a cui si può accedere gratuitamente; si
tratta di una cava scavata dagli schiavi
in età imperiale all’interno del Monte
Conero.
Molte sono le leggende legate a questo
luogo, pare che nelle viscere di questa
cava sotterranea sia nascosto un tesoro
custodito dalle anime dei cavapietre.
Proseguite quindi in direzione Ancona,
qui tra i vicoli e il vociare del centro
cittadino troverete la Chiesa di Santa
Maria della Piazza dalla quale potrete
accedere ad un percorso sotterraneo
alla scoperta dei templi che ne hanno
preceduto l’edificazione.
Ritornate quindi verso le colline e
raggiungete Osimo per visitare le grotte
che corrono al di sotto della superficie
cittadina, due sono gli ipogei osimani: le
Grotte del Cantinone a cui si accede da
via Fonte Magna e le Grotte Fregonara-
Gallo in piazza Dante. Un dedalo di
gallerie, cunicoli e pozzi sotterranei
scavati nell’arenaria e ricchi di misteri.

il borgo di Camerano con le sue grotte

An itinerary that leaves from the sea and climbs
inland exploring the fortresses and fortifications
of the Conero. The Arco di Numana, in addition
to being the symbol of the town, is what remains
of the watchtower of the fourteenth-century
coastal castle.
Sirolo also had a castle that was built in the
VII century, exploiting the strategic position
overhanging the sea and protected by cliffs. Of
the castle today there remains only the village
and the two towers, the first is annexed to the
church, the second has become, for the people of
Sirolo, the Torrione.
Moving on to Loreto, you will encounter a true
and authentic stronghold of faith. Over the
course of the centuries, in order to defend the
Santa Casa from raids from the sea, defensive
bulwarks were built which can be visited in an
evocative itinerary through the chemin-de-ronde.
In Osimo only the ancient tower of the castle
remains. Continue on to Montefano where you
can breath in the harmony of this village in the
hills. Take a walk in the centre, then go to the
nearby Filottrano, a town of fashion where you
can visit one of the many designer boutiques.
From here go into the hills of the Terra dei
Castelli among the villages of Santa Maria Nuova,
Polverigi, Agugliano and Offagna the Fortress
of which represents one of the most important
examples of military architecture in the Marche.
From here go towards Ancona where you can visit
the town with its five bastions and then go on to
Portonovo to see the Napoleonic Fort and the
Torre De Bosis, which stand over the crystal clear
sea of the Riviera del Conero.

arrampica nell’entroterra alla scoperta
di rocche e fortificazioni del Conero.
L’Arco di Numana, oltre ad essere il
simbolo della città, è ciò che resta della
torre d’avvistamento del trecentesco
maniero costiero.
Anche Sirolo aveva il suo castello
che sorse nel VII secolo sfruttando la
posizione strategica a strapiombo sul
mare e protetta da falesie. Del castello
oggi restano solo il borgo e le due torri,
la prima annessa alla chiesa, la seconda
diventato, per i sirolesi, il Torrione.
Spostandosi a Loreto, incontrerete una
vera e propria cittadella della fede. Nel
corso dei secoli infatti, per difendere la
Santa Casa dalle incursioni dal mare
vennero costruiti baluardi difensivi che
si possono visitare oggi in un suggestivo
percorso tra i camminamenti di ronda.
Passando per Osimo del cui castello
resta solo l’antica Torre, proseguite
per Montefano dove potrete respirare
l’armonia di questo borgo tra le
colline, fate un giro per il suo centro e
raggiungete poi la vicina Filottrano, città
della moda dove potete fare un salto in
una delle molte sartorie locali.
Da qui, addentratevi nella colline della
Terra dei Castelli tra i borghi di Santa
Maria Nuova, Polverigi, Agugliano e
Offagna la cui Rocca rappresenta uno
dei più importanti esempi di architettura
militare delle Marche.
Da qui dirigetevi verso Ancona dove
potrete visitare la cittadella con i
suoi cinque bastioni e raggiungere
poi Portonovo con il suo Fortino
Napoleonico e la Torre De Bosis che
svettano sul mare cristallino della Riviera
del Conero.

Un Monte a strapiombo sul mare, che
ricava scorci incantevoli e spiagge
bellissime. Un’ambiente generoso di
calde atmosfere attraversato da itinerari
escursionistici che strizzano l’occhio al
turismo sostenibile. Un’offerta di tipicità
all’insegna della qualità e tanta storia,
raccontata in ogni angolo del territorio.
Tutto questo è il Parco del Conero, una
gemma incastonata nelle Marche, sulle
sponde dell’Adriatico. Istituito nel 1987
per salvaguardare le ricchezze naturali e
culturali, il Parco Regionale del Conero,
esteso per 6.011 ettari, include gran
parte del territorio di Ancona e delle
cittadine di Camerano, Sirolo e Numana.
Quest’area protetta costiera offre varie
tipologie di paesaggi, tra cui spicca il
Monte Conero, 572 metri di altezza, unico
baluardo roccioso da Trieste al Gargano.
The Conero Regional Nature Reserve is a stage
of rare beauty that includes a stretch of coastline
and a vast area of hills, characterized by unique
panoramas and an ancient history.
The area includes the territories of the
municipalities of Ancona, Camerano, Numana
and Sirolo. Monte Conero is 572 metres high,
right on the sea it is the only promontory on
the coastline that stretches from Trieste to the
Gargano. The presence of unused quarries makes
the reserve an open book on the geological
history of the area and on the entire statigraphic
superposition of the Appennine Mountains of
Umbria and the Marche.
