World War 2 began in 1939 after Germany invaded Poland. Key events included Germany and Italy allying against countries like the UK, France, and later the US. New weapons caused mass casualties while the Holocaust led to the deaths of millions of Jews. Major battles included the Battle of Britain and the Battle of Stalingrad. The war ended in 1945 after the US dropped atomic bombs on Japan. Borders changed in Europe and over 60 million people died making it the deadliest conflict in history.
