2. The Method
 Gastric Band Hypnotherapy uses a combination of therapies to help clients
lose weight.
 Hypnosis – To give positive suggestion and to create subconscious change. Also
where necessary analytical hypnotherapy to understand why a person is
overeating.
 CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is used to break down the negative
patterns of behaviour and to give new alternatives.
 Mindfulness – Making a client increase their awareness of what they are
eating.
 NLP – In our case we also use Neuro-Linguistic Programming to create positive
change.

3. Session One
 An assessment of the clients situation is taken. This is to understand not only
the problem with overeating but to see if other factors are at play such as
stress, anxiety or depression.
 The client is given a list of mindful eating rules to follow between the
sessions.
 The client is instructed to create a food diary but this is in a different format
to the usual dieting diaries as it will look at emotions whilst eating.
 A session of suggestion hypnosis is given to suggest that the persons stomach
is reducing in size so they will be unable to eat large portion sizes.
 The client Is given an audio to take home with them.

4. Sessions Two and Three
 The practitioner will review and discuss the food diary.
 The hypnotherapist will assess whether there has been any noticeable change
in eating patterns.
 Further hypnosis sessions now take place using analytical hypnosis to help
understand the root cause of the problem.
 Once the root cause of a problem is established work begins on educating and
persuading the subconscious to create new alternative ways of thinking.
 When this work is complete a suggestion hypnosis session is carried out where
the client meets their virtual surgeon under hypnosis and has an operation
pre-talk.

5. Session Four
 The Hypno-Band virtual operation takes place.
 Under hypnosis the client is given suggestions that they are entering hospital
for a gastric band operation
 The client is guided from the hospital room to the operating theatre and then
to the recovery room.
 The main suggestions given involve tightness of the stomach, limitations on
the amount that can be eaten and leaving food on the plate.

6. Session Five
 Between two to four weeks later the client will return to the hypnotherapist
for an update on their progress.
 Clients who are doing well and losing weight easily will have a reinforcing
session to help the weight loss suggestions stick.
 If a client is losing weight at a slower pace then the client is guided into
hypnosis and a bad adjustment is given to tighten the band.
 The client is instructed to continue listening to the audio and using the
mindful eating techniques until they get to their goal weight.

7. Session Timings
 Each session should last for approximately one hour.
 Sessions are usually held one to two weeks apart
 It is possible to complete gastric band hypnosis in one session however it is
unlikely that the analytical part of the session will be as useful.
 If gastric band hypnosis is to be completed in one session it should primarily
be done via suggestion hypnosis.
