3. Lanes for Drains began life as a Leeds-based
operation in 1990. Today we are the UK’s largest
independent drainage specialist with an unparalleled
reputation for excellence and quality, and a network
of depots giving a nationwide service 24-hours a day,
365-days a year.
That growth record is impressive by any standards,
and it has been achieved in a very controlled, very
focused way. Lanes is a young, dynamic and
privately-owned company which means we
have been able to set our own pace. We
make decisions about what we want to
do and when, and we make it happen.
Our expansion has also been possible
because, quite simply, we are good at what
we do. We aim, always, for the highest
possible standards in every aspect of our
business. We are immensely proud that we
have researched the most advanced
technology; the highest quality, highest
specification plant equipment; we have
dedicated, enthusiastic and friendly people; and
that we provide the level of service that people not
only want, but deserve.
We call it ‘Total Drainage Maintenance’.
Welcome to Lanes for Drains.

4. LanesforDrains
Lets face it, drains are out of sight and out of mind.
Until something goes wrong that is. But then all
that is required is a phone call to Lanes’ 24-hour
free phone number and we will do the rest. It
doesn’t matter what time of day or night you call.
With a combination of advanced equipment, expert
and able staff and sheer hard work, we will get the
job done. If you have to find out exactly what is
going on wrong in your drains - or perhaps you
want to have them checked for peace of mind -
there’s no need to start digging.
Using our sophisticated, remotely-controlled CCTV
equipment we will survey your drainage system.
Our specialist Wincan software means you can
have full colour video, CD or DVD of moving and
still photography accompanied with all the relevant
data and information. We can also carry out
man-entry surveys of larger sewers and
culverts using specially trained staff.

Having a regular program of drainage maintenance
services, can frequently save you the hassle of
emergency call outs in the first place.
At Lanes we offer a flexible and tailor made
pre-planned maintenance service which can
be tightly scheduled or simply arrange to a
six-monthly visit for drain cleaning and checking,
emptying of interceptors, jetting, surveying, etc.
Of course we are happy to work within any specific
time constraints such as school holidays, factory
shutdowns or processes. All you have to do is ask.

6. At Lanes we are especially proud of our investment
in plant and equipment and our jetvac vehicles are
a shining example of our commitment to
technology. The fleet is unmatched in the industry,
with each machine having been customised
specially for us. Of course we do not rely solely
on machinery. Our people play a crucial role in
providing the legendary Lanes’ service, with
dedicated and well trained professional engineers.
As a registered waste handler Lanes holds an
environmental waste transfer licence and provides
a full service to comply with all relevant legislation
for waste disposal and tracking, including dealing
with all documentation on our clients’ behalf.
VACUUMATION AND
JETVAC SERVICES
Lanes’ vacuumation and waste disposal services
are used across a diverse range of situations, from
swimming pools to food processing, from heavy
industry to petrol stations, disposing of everything
from hazardous waste to grease and petroleum
by-products.
7. PATCH REPAIR
Holes, cracks and fractures within otherwise
structurally-sound drains are repaired using the
patch method which is clever, yet very simple. A
section of epoxy resin impregnated glass fibre
matting is wrapped around a rubber inflatable
packer. Once positioned in the pipe with the aid
of a CCTV camera, the packer is inflated, forcing
the glass fibre matting against the host pipe.
When the resin has cured, the packer is removed
leaving the ‘patch’ securely bonded to the host
pipe.
Quick installation
Installation into live sewers, giving up to
75% reduction on open cut repairs.
Diameters range from 100mm - 750mm.
Short term 50 flexural modules to exceed
4000Mpa
Long term 50-year creep modules to ex-
ceed 800Mpa with a safety factor 2” (United
Utilities approved)
8. DRAIN & SEWER
RENOVATION
When it comes to renovation and rehabilitation,
Lanes is definitely the leader in technical field of
pipe relining. This allows existing pipework to be
made good without the need for excavation.
As a measure of our standing in the industry, our
services are sought by some of the biggest
names in construction and civil engineering. We
already have contracts with many on the major
utilities and have achieved Wrc accreditation so
that we can work directly for the water authorities.
Our relining expertise means we can offer
solutions for a large range of pipe diameters and
types, along with a full complement of reline
methods.
Our dedicated reline division provides a great
deal more than just the practical skills to carry out
successful relines. Lanes offers a complete
solution to include everything from planning, logistics and
project management to dealing with legislative paperwork
such as road opening orders etc. And of course we finish
off with robotic lateral cutting using the most advanced
technology available in the UK.
For drain and sewer renovation, we are all you need to
know.
9. Although Lanes is well known for advanced
technology drainage solutions, there are times when
only traditional excavation and repair will do.
Naturally, we do that too.
We tackle anything from small gully repairs to
engineering projects on major highways, from small
domestic tasks to full scale drainage replacement
projects. We expect to provide both the muscle to
handle general excavation work such as restoring
collapsed drains, and the specialist skills involved in
remedial work to repair damage caused by root
ingress or badly displaced joints in drains.
We have even been called in to work in
environmentally sensitive situations requiring the
highest standards, like areas designated as being of
special scientific interest (Ssis) for instance - which
speaks volumes about our capabilities.
EXCAVATION
AND REPAIR
10. EXCAVATION
AND REPAIR
Our health & safety record is
impeccable. All our operatives are
thoroughly trained in safe working
practices and our H&S officer routinely
carries out initial and full work-in-
progress inspections. For projects
involving the public highway, Lanes
has NRASWA-certified staff trained in
traffic management at each regional
office.
Before and after images show the professional finish we
strive to achieve on completion of all our work.
Whilst excavation is usually the last resort because of the
disruption it causes and for the adverse impact on the
environment, with Lanes that isn’t necessarily the case. In
fact our clients are often genuinely surprised by the quality
of our reinstatement work - and that’s something we are
proud of.
11. PANORAMO
TECHNOLOGY
A revolution has taken place in the way drains
and sewers are surveyed and, once again, Lanes
for Drains are the first to take on the new
technology.
what is it?
Panoramo is a revolutionary and unique 3D
Optoscanner which provides a whole new look at
drains and sewers. Where conventional pan and
tilt camera’s rely on the camera operator to see
and record images and only those images are
stored, Panoramo simply sees and records
everything in one go.
The Panoramo 3D
OptoScanner from Lanes:
see things differently
how does it work?
Panoramo’s two high resolution digital cameras with
186º wide angle lenses, one at the front, the other
at the back of the unit scan the internal 360º surface
of the pipe digitally, taking 2.5 images every 5 cm.
At up to 35cm (14 inches) per second, Panoramo is
able to travel more than three times the speed of a
conventional camera.
The 360º digital images are fed back to the
inspection vehicle so that the operator can use the
images live for orientation purposes or to locate
obstructions, but the data is also stored on
removable hard disk or DVD so that analysis and
reporting can be carried out later, using a PC in the
office for instance.
The viewer software then allows technical staff to
carry out a complete sewer inspection as if they
were on site, using Panoramo like a virtual camera:
panning and rotating, stopping at any position,
turning a full circle, zooming, capturing images,
even looking at an unfolded view of the inner pipe
surface. With Panoramo there’s no need to send the
camera down again for a second look.
12. The Laser Profiler
Advanced precision pipe measurement
technology from Lanes:
The Clearline Profiler is a precision pipeline measurement tool which
combines hardware and innovative software to give accurate
empirical data about the dimensions, shape, capacity and other
conditions in new and existing pipelines.
Clearline Profiler: the benefits
LASER PROFILING
PIPE TECHNOLOGY
Profiling is carried out at the same time as a
CCTV survey. The profiler unit attaches to
the front of a CCTV camera and projects a
laser light onto 180 radial points of the pipes
internal surface.
This technology allows the true condition of
1mm when measuring pipe size,
deformation, erosion, encrustation, debris,
grease, flows, lateral protrusion, surface
damage, holes, etc.
Graphs
There are many different reports which
can be produced from the software. It
can show capacity increase/decrease
due to erosion or blockages. Ovality
verifies shape to indicate structural
integrity. Pipe dimensions, water levels
and debris levels can also be shown.
Reports
These can show a 3D image of the pipe
or a cross section digital image.
The Clearline Profiler is a precision pipeline measurement tool which
combines hardware and innovative software to give accurate
empirical data about the dimensions, shape, capacity and other
conditions in new and existing pipelines.
Clearline Profiler: the benefits
Provides fast cross-sectional area calculations for
determining flow reduction.
Measures deformation as an ‘ovality’ percentage.
Shows any erosion or loss of pipe wall.
Quantifies defects, holes or other abnormalities.
13. IBAK LISY are satellite systems for
the inspection of branch sewers and
laterals from mainline pipes. A
remote- controlled camera tractor
carries the pan and rotate control
head with the lateral camera
through the mainline pipe up to
the lateral entrance. The camera
of the IBAK LISY system can be
pushed up to 33 m (107 ft.) into
the lateral with the pushrod. In
small and medium sized pipes, the
IBAK LISY 150 is used. The
articulated joint of IBAK LISY 150
facilitates introduction into small
manholes. With the quick- action
fastener, the cameras can be
rapidly exchanged. The lateral
inspection system is connected to
the vehicle control centre via two
cables in- stalled on an electric or
manual winch.
