you can trace how successful your email campaign has been
• Design special campaigns if you find out that a format works well
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 18/31: Send a Welcome Mail
• This is a great opportunity to gather new information about the
reader but be subtle
• Include a small questionnaire to find out why they subscribed and
what their expectations are
• Let them know what they can expect from you: Tell them the
frequency of your mails and what content they can look forward to

using a thumbnail of your video, including the play button, and
adding a hyperlink to where your video is hosted, for example on
YouTube
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 22/31: Encourage replies
• Show that you’re open to dialog by using a real email address and
not a “no-reply”
• Your readers will understand that you are available to answer their
questions
• Both Gmail and Yahoo have said that they will rate your email as
more important when it comes from a real address. This reduces the
risk of getting into someone’s junk mail
• Set up filters in your email address so you don’t get bombarded with
out-of-office replies
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 23/31: Draft in text editor
• Keep your newsletter personal; write like you are talking to your
friends
• Get into the right frame of mind by using a text editor for your first
draft and copy this into your Email Service Provider (ESP)
• Make sure to double check in your ESP that the layout is as you
want it Email marketing tips
by
Tip 24/31: Learn from Spam
• Get real-life examples by opening some email accounts in Gmail or
Yahoo, and add these accounts to a few websites
• Spammers use a lot of capitals and funny symbols – keep these to a
minimum
• Create interesting content, this will benefit your open rate and deter
spam filters
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 25/31: Activate your Unsubscribes immediately
• Ensure that you immediately activate the Unsubscribes.
• People that still receive newsletters after they have unsubscribed will
feel confused and possibly angry. “Why do I still receive this?”, or “Is
this Spam?”
• Keep up the good name of your brand by removing your
unsubscribes from your mailing list immediately
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 26/31: Use Double Opt-In
• Once someone has subscribed to your newsletter, send them a
link to confirm their interest. Only then add them to your mailing
list
• This assures new subscribers that you respect their privacy
• Double Opt-In also gives you the opportunity to verify that the
new email address is not Spam
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 27/31: Grow your list. Always
• Ensure that on every point of contact with your customer, you give
them the opportunity to subscribe to your newsletter
• Come up with a special offer and share this on all social media with a
clear call-to-action (CTA) to sign up to your newsletter first
• Be clear in your message: What can your (future) readers expect
from you?
• Finally, think quality not quantity!
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 28/31: Ask for feedback
• Ensure you create content that is appreciated
• Include a short survey once in a while to find out what your readers
expect from you
• Think about: frequency, content (what do your readers find most
interesting?), click-through rate, and much more
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 29/31: Think about preview pane
• Design your newsletters so that the most important message and
your call-to-action (CTA) are visible on the top
• Include a table of contents in your newsletter so that even readers in
preview pane know what all of the content is
• Your From and Subject line are even more relevant for subscribers
who read your message in preview pane so test and optimize these
too
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 30/31: Create Landing Pages
• Align the message from your newsletter with the message on
your landing page by using similar language and keywords
• Analyze the bounce rate. If lots of readers leave without visiting
another page, adjust your landing page
• Find a balance between visuals and relevant textual content. If
you include images, don’t forget the Alt tag
Email marketing tips
by
Tip 31/31: Avoid faulty email addresses
• Mistakes still happen – people forget a letter or make a typo
• To receive the correct email addresses, ask new subscribers to
retype their email address
• This helps you to build a clean and valuable list
