LETTER – EXPERIENCE IN LONG TERM CARE FIELD
INCLUDING SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES AS A
CAREGIVER AND MEDAIDE
My name is Marion Pound. I am a 17 year veteran caregiver and
patient advocate. I have worked both in home and in facilities including
Alzheimer's Specialty Facilities as medication aide / caregiver. My
objective is to find a position where I can work with the elderly,
chronically ill, mentally ill and physically handicapped; to advance my
knowledge and skills; to have an opportunity to advance and work with
others and grow with an innovative organization.
I started caregiving at the age of 21 caring for my best friend's
mother, Irene Virginia Pullen, after she broke her hip. I worked with her
through 3 months of in-home rehab. I took care of cooking her meals,
cleaning her house, and meeting her basic adls. She slowly went down
hill from there. This was in 1998.
A few years later she had a stroke that put her in a coma for 21
days in the hospital. I stayed with her day and night. She came
home unable to walk or take care of herself. She was dependent on
her son, Philip Anderton, and myself for all adls. It took us about 6
months of working with her and night to get her to be able to feed
herself and help assist with standing and feeding.
During this time of care I also assisted with scheduling doctor
appointments, monitoring her pacemaker (3rd
degree atrioventricular
block) via satellite (from home over telephone), assisting her to and
from doctor appointments, going shopping for her (both personal and
food). As time went on I cared for more and more of her adls including
feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing (both in shower and in bed). I even
assisted her with bowel and bladder care (both catheter care and
constipation matters as they arose). After her stroke she had secondary
parkinsonism and Alzheimer's disease. Several years after having the
stroke she passed away at home on hospice. Both me and her son saw
to her every need. She passed away Oct. 1st
, 2008.
After she passed away I went to work at long term facilities. During
that time I was a medication aide for a total of about 4 years. I have
been a caregiver for a total of about 5 years. As a medication aide I
prepared and administered medications in compliance with the related
policies and procedures at the long term care facilities. I counted and
calculated doses on a limited basis and documented the number of
scheduled drugs at the beginning and end of each shift. I reviewed
resident's medical records and medication administration records (MAR).
I also provided resident care within the scope of the medication aide role
and continue direct care activities and other relevant caregiving duties as
assigned e.g., performance, improvement, activities.
During the past seven years I have been a caregiver at long term care
facilities for almost 5 years and during that time I did the following:
• ambitiously provided friendly and superb service to the
residents of the home with compassion and zeal while maintaining an
attitude of professionalism, maturity and team orientation.
• I had an awareness for all residents with special
conditions such as mental impairment, behavior disorders and
medical problems.
• I also had an awareness of and responded to resident
request for assistance such as response to illness, emergencies,
complaints to concerns and requests for repairs.
• I prompted or assisted with the following: am and pm
care; incontinence care and toileting; ambulation, transfers and
transports
• I reported to or requested assistance from the manager or
service coordinator if needed in case of a resident illness or
emergency and much more
I have also done in home care and have recently ended my
position of medication aide / caregiver at Fox Hollow Residential in
Eugene, Oregon. I took care of my best friend's mother at home for
ten years and I am currently working with Kiler Davenport at
Alternative Public Radio International around the world on the web. I
assist with such things as getting guests for the show, run the board
when the show is live on air; manage the marketing for APRI and
much more. I have been doing this for over 5 years.
My goals in life right now are to make the lives of the indigent,
sick, and elderly as good as they can be and that is to give them
respect, love and compassion. Also to treat them like they are
human. Allow them to keep their dignity and pride about them and
help them live as long as they can and as comfortable as they can. I
know that I would hope and pray that someone would be as kind,
compassionate, loving and understanding as I am to the ones I care
for to me when I get old and sick.
I know that I will make a good asset to this team. Throughout
my seventeen years in the long term care field I have learned how to
be a good communicator and team player. I have learned the
importance of servant leadership. I have excellent listening skills and
take instructions from others well. I have compassion and empathy
for not only the ones I care for but the ones I work with. I am a
determined individual to be the best at what I do and excel at
learning new things.
Thank you for your time and interest

Dear Sir or Madam,
Marion Pound took care of my mother for ten years. If not for her
mother would not have lived as long as she did. Marion is a fighter. She is
a dedicated caregiver. Mother loved her dearly. She was by her side night
and day. She developed a special diet for mom. She helped with physical
therapy, took her and stayed with her at the hospital twenty one days
without coming home, and fought for her care every step of the way. She
did mom’s hair, kept her skin in perfect shape where she would not get
bed sores and read her stories every day and night before she went to
bed.
Marion is a blessing to this world and to the long term care
industry. Caregiving is not a job to her. It is a mission. Persons in her care
are not patients or residents. To her they are human beings. I
recommend her highly for any caregiving position or any other position
for that matter. You can call me if you have any other questions about the
ten years she took care of my mother call me day or night.
Also her no nonsense attitude about caregiving is not welcomed by
everyone When she works she works. She is a good listener and a fast
learner. She is a very fast learner as far as learning the ways of a new
place and the ways of the residents and their needs.
When she is at home she works writing articles to stop abuse and
neglect. She is an advocate for the caregivers and the families of those in
the long term care system. She is a servant leader in the sense that she
is not above doing any job or performing any function so long as it is
good for the resident.
Sincerely,
Kiler Davenport

Dear Sir or Madam,
I have known Ms. Mary now for almost nine years. She is without a doubt
the most genuine, loyal, and down to earth person I have ever met. I am an
independent film maker doing both in studio and field production. Ms. Mary has
worked with me on several television productions and has proven herself to be
an exceptional production assistant. She is also a dedicated, compassionate
caregiver. She took care of a good friend of mine for ten years day and night.
And God knows Ms. Mary was the reason she lived as long as she did. I am a
witness to that. If the whole world was half as good as she is we would all be in
paradise. Call me if you need me at 1-214-226-0432. I am out a lot so if you
can’t reach me my email is rsstewart81@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Scott Stewart

  • 4. LETTER – EXPERIENCE IN LONG TERM CARE FIELD INCLUDING SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES AS A CAREGIVER AND MEDAIDE My name is Marion Pound. I am a 17 year veteran caregiver and patient advocate. I have worked both in home and in facilities including Alzheimer's Specialty Facilities as medication aide / caregiver. My objective is to find a position where I can work with the elderly, chronically ill, mentally ill and physically handicapped; to advance my knowledge and skills; to have an opportunity to advance and work with others and grow with an innovative organization. I started caregiving at the age of 21 caring for my best friend's mother, Irene Virginia Pullen, after she broke her hip. I worked with her through 3 months of in-home rehab. I took care of cooking her meals, cleaning her house, and meeting her basic adls. She slowly went down hill from there. This was in 1998. A few years later she had a stroke that put her in a coma for 21 days in the hospital. I stayed with her day and night. She came home unable to walk or take care of herself. She was dependent on her son, Philip Anderton, and myself for all adls. It took us about 6 months of working with her and night to get her to be able to feed herself and help assist with standing and feeding. During this time of care I also assisted with scheduling doctor appointments, monitoring her pacemaker (3rd degree atrioventricular block) via satellite (from home over telephone), assisting her to and from doctor appointments, going shopping for her (both personal and food). As time went on I cared for more and more of her adls including feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing (both in shower and in bed). I even assisted her with bowel and bladder care (both catheter care and constipation matters as they arose). After her stroke she had secondary parkinsonism and Alzheimer's disease. Several years after having the stroke she passed away at home on hospice. Both me and her son saw to her every need. She passed away Oct. 1st , 2008.
  • 5. After she passed away I went to work at long term facilities. During that time I was a medication aide for a total of about 4 years. I have been a caregiver for a total of about 5 years. As a medication aide I prepared and administered medications in compliance with the related policies and procedures at the long term care facilities. I counted and calculated doses on a limited basis and documented the number of scheduled drugs at the beginning and end of each shift. I reviewed resident's medical records and medication administration records (MAR). I also provided resident care within the scope of the medication aide role and continue direct care activities and other relevant caregiving duties as assigned e.g., performance, improvement, activities. During the past seven years I have been a caregiver at long term care facilities for almost 5 years and during that time I did the following: • ambitiously provided friendly and superb service to the residents of the home with compassion and zeal while maintaining an attitude of professionalism, maturity and team orientation. • I had an awareness for all residents with special conditions such as mental impairment, behavior disorders and medical problems. • I also had an awareness of and responded to resident request for assistance such as response to illness, emergencies, complaints to concerns and requests for repairs. • I prompted or assisted with the following: am and pm care; incontinence care and toileting; ambulation, transfers and transports • I reported to or requested assistance from the manager or service coordinator if needed in case of a resident illness or emergency and much more I have also done in home care and have recently ended my position of medication aide / caregiver at Fox Hollow Residential in Eugene, Oregon. I took care of my best friend's mother at home for ten years and I am currently working with Kiler Davenport at Alternative Public Radio International around the world on the web. I assist with such things as getting guests for the show, run the board when the show is live on air; manage the marketing for APRI and much more. I have been doing this for over 5 years.
  • 6. My goals in life right now are to make the lives of the indigent, sick, and elderly as good as they can be and that is to give them respect, love and compassion. Also to treat them like they are human. Allow them to keep their dignity and pride about them and help them live as long as they can and as comfortable as they can. I know that I would hope and pray that someone would be as kind, compassionate, loving and understanding as I am to the ones I care for to me when I get old and sick. I know that I will make a good asset to this team. Throughout my seventeen years in the long term care field I have learned how to be a good communicator and team player. I have learned the importance of servant leadership. I have excellent listening skills and take instructions from others well. I have compassion and empathy for not only the ones I care for but the ones I work with. I am a determined individual to be the best at what I do and excel at learning new things. Thank you for your time and interest Marion Pound March 19th , 2015

  • 31. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATIONS KILER DAVENPORT Kiler Davenport 541-521-2922 email: dkiler2010@gmail.com Dear Sir or Madam, Marion Pound took care of my mother for ten years. If not for her mother would not have lived as long as she did. Marion is a fighter. She is a dedicated caregiver. Mother loved her dearly. She was by her side night and day. She developed a special diet for mom. She helped with physical therapy, took her and stayed with her at the hospital twenty one days without coming home, and fought for her care every step of the way. She did mom’s hair, kept her skin in perfect shape where she would not get bed sores and read her stories every day and night before she went to bed. Marion is a blessing to this world and to the long term care industry. Caregiving is not a job to her. It is a mission. Persons in her care are not patients or residents. To her they are human beings. I recommend her highly for any caregiving position or any other position for that matter. You can call me if you have any other questions about the ten years she took care of my mother call me day or night. Also her no nonsense attitude about caregiving is not welcomed by everyone When she works she works. She is a good listener and a fast learner. She is a very fast learner as far as learning the ways of a new place and the ways of the residents and their needs. When she is at home she works writing articles to stop abuse and neglect. She is an advocate for the caregivers and the families of those in the long term care system. She is a servant leader in the sense that she is not above doing any job or performing any function so long as it is good for the resident. Sincerely, Kiler Davenport

She is without a doubt the most genuine, loyal, and down to earth person I have ever met. I am an independent film maker doing both in studio and field production. Ms. Mary has worked with me on several television productions and has proven herself to be an exceptional production assistant. She is also a dedicated, compassionate caregiver. She took care of a good friend of mine for ten years day and night. And God knows Ms. Mary was the reason she lived as long as she did. I am a witness to that. If the whole world was half as good as she is we would all be in paradise. Call me if you need me at 1-214-226-0432. I am out a lot so if you can’t reach me my email is rsstewart81@yahoo.com.
