This document discusses differentiation strategies for lesson planning to meet the diverse needs of students. It provides guidance for a two-part assignment on designing a differentiated geometry lesson plan and reflecting on how it meets student needs. For the lesson plan, teachers are to select a grade level standard, use a template, and differentiate content, process, and assessments based on a class profile. For the reflection, teachers analyze how technology and collaboration can further support differentiation and include two citations. The assignment requires submission to LopesWrite and logging field experience hours.
Differentiated Activities Differentiation is one of the most imp.docx
1. Differentiated Activities
Differentiation is one of the most important considerations
when preparing a lesson plan for all students. Differentiation
guides the teacher in making the instructional modifications
required to meet the diverse needs of all students, plan for
varying levels of development, and create opportunities for
various approaches to learning and performance.
This lesson will be focused in the content area of geometry.
Part 1: Differentiation Lesson Plan
For this assignment, select a K-8 grade level and state standard
in the area of geometry and use the "COE Lesson Plan
Template" to design an original lesson plan. Be sure to examine
instructional opportunities that can be adapted to meet the
diverse needs of students, create learning environments that
foster active engagement through supportive, and design
assessments that align to learning objectives and support
learning needs.
Use the “Class Profile” to differentiate to meet the diverse
needs of students.
Part 2: Reflection
In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on your lesson plan
and the differentiation strategies utilized to meet the diverse
needs of students. How can technology-enriched learning
experiences provide various opportunities to differentiate? How
can you collaborate with and incorporate the input,
contributions, and knowledge of families, colleagues, and other
professionals in order to support the diverse needs of students?
2. Support your reflection with at least two scholarly resources.
While APA format is not required for this assignment, solid
academic writing is expected, in-text citations and references
should be presented using APA documentation guidelines,
which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the
Student Success Center. This assignment uses a rubric. Review
the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar
with the expectations for successful completion.

Clinical Field Experience B: Mathematical Pre-Assessment
Allocate at least 4 hours in the field to support this field
experience.
Part 1: Pre-assessment and Implementation
Follow these steps for this week’s field experience:
From your previous observation in your field experience
classroom, you identified 3-5 students, above, at, or below
standard achievement in the classroom environment that would
benefit from additional learning support. You also identified the
3. standards and unit that your mentor class is currently learning.
With this information, complete the “Math Pre-Assessment”
where you develop a pre-assessment in the math content area
that aligns to the standards and unit that your mentor teacher
shared with you during Clinical Field Experience A. This pre-
assessment can be oral, written, or completed through
technology. The pre-assessment should identify ho well selected
students know the concept and provide data that would allow
you to determine learning gaps and needs in order to develop an
appropriate lesson to support learning needs.
Share the pre-assessment with your mentor teacher and ask for
his or her feedback.
Administer the pre-assessment that you created with the
selected group of students and use the data to prepare for
Clinical Field Experience C.
Part 2: Reflection
In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on your field
experience and the steps you took to identify students for the
pre-assessment. Consider:
How did the pre-assessment provide data to determine the
learning gaps and needs of students?
What challenges did you face when developing and delivering
the pre-assessment?
Explain how you will use your findings in your future
professional practice.
