2. The Information Black people were kidnapped by other black people because Britain wanted slaves. Then they were taken to a beach and put in cages and waited for a slave ship to arrive. It usually took days or even months! When they did come they were put on the bottom deck of the ship and it was cramped. The only time they where allowed on the top of the ship was when they did exercises or duties.
3. Some of the punishments were horrible. One of them was being whipped. When they got to the island they needed to get to they were auctioned off to plantation owners. Slaves were worth a lot of money. When that was done England bought raw materials like rum and then took them back to Britain. This is called the triangular trade. The next slide shows you what the slave ships would of looked like…

5. When was slavery abolished? 25 March 1807 Who helped to abolish it? Olaudah Equiano
6. What happened after it was abolished? Some people continued the trade! The captains who were caught continuing were fined. £100 for each slave found on board. Some captains threw slaves off the ship to reduce fines.
7. The British government paid compensation to the slave owners. If you had 665 slaves in your plantation you would receive £12,700
8. Now the slaves were released what happened? A few years after they had been released somebody brought in “Jim Crow laws” and this separated the blacks from the whites. This was called segregation and coloured people weren’t allowed to walk on the same path as a white person or go in the same toilet or school or swimming pool or bus…
10. What now? Well a guy called “Martin Luther King” didn’t like this so he set up a campaign to stop it. Some plans didn’t work. He won the peace award. He died by being killed by a white person shooting him in the back. Here is a piece of one of his famous speeches. "I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood."
11. Now what? This is when the NAACP set up. This was a campaign to get civil rights. This took a very long time. They even had to back up some black people in court. There was a teenager called Till who was kidnapped and killed. Before the trial the Ku Klux Klan threaten to kill the witnesses.
12. Who are the Ku Klux Klan? Well they are like NAACP but don’t protect blacks in fact they hate them. They call them niggers and horrible stuff like that. Heres a picture of them
13. When did they get there civil rights? It was between 1955–1968
14. What happened to the Ku Klux Klan? As the years went by, the Klan was getting weaker and weaker because the Blacks were getting stronger and stronger. Also the police forces got better around the mid 1940’s. Many tried to bring the KKK back to full strength, but they failed. The Ku Klux Klan thought maybe they needed a new leader, but after a new leader and his death in 1949 the Klan got even smaller and was never as strong as they were in their first few years. Now there are still Klan members, but very few of them are still active because the kinds of violence they participated in before the 1940’s would be severely punished today.
15. So the Ku Klux Klan is still here today? Yes the Klan is still running today. But it is not as strong as it used to be. People are still trying to bring it back…………..
