Plants breathe and produce their own food through the process of photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, plants use water, carbon dioxide from the air, and sunlight to produce oxygen and food. At night, plants respire like animals and release carbon dioxide as they absorb oxygen from the air.
2. Plant nutrition
• Can you breathe?
• Can animals breathe?
• And plants? Can plants breathe??And do you
know how plants breathe?
• Do you know how plants get their food?
3. PHOTOSYNTHESIS
• Plants breathe and make their own food using
a proccess called Photosynthesis.
• To perform photosynthesis, plants need water,
sunlight and carbon dioxide(CO 2)
• During photosynthesis, plants release
oxygen(O 2) into the air.

4. The water travels up the stem to the
leaves
The roots absorb water from the soil
Plants make food in their leaves. The plant
absorbs carbon dioxide from the air through
small holes in their leaves. Using energy
from the Sun, the carbon dioxide is
combined with water and sunlight to make
food

6. RESPIRATION
• Plants are living things, so they need to
breathe just like people and animals.
• During the day they can also produce oxygen
thanks to photosynthesis.
• During the night they take the oxygen from
the air and release carbon dioxide.
