Analysis
Elizabeth Mayer and Louise Bogan's otherwise very good translation of
Werther leaves out this opening note, to the detriment of the work. The
note is important because it serves as a framework for the novel. First of
all, it spoils the "stun" of the ending. This is important to a full reading of
the novel, however, as the reader should have no illusions that Werther's
tale might end happily. Second, the epigraph exhort those who might
follow Werther's example to take comfort in their pain by reading about
Werther's. Goethe presents his book as a friend and companion. Of
course, historically, Werther probably incited more suicides than it
prevented, but Goethe included the note specifically to warn readers
against this possibility. It is important to keep in mind while reading
Werther that Goethe wants us to know that the story is edited and
organized from a perspective other than Werther's.

Analysis
 May 4: The sorrow of young werther is beings with werther in a
cheerful mood, having escaped a young women named Leonora,
whom he implies wad madly in love with him. Werther is treated to a
quite country setting in Germany with the intension of spending his
time in drawing. He has left behind his best friend wilhelm, and his
mother. Werther and his mother don’t seems to get along particularly
well- a fact that can assume because he never addressed her directly,
instead speaking to her through wilhelm. He notes, however that he
has taken car e of some family business stemming from a
disagreement between his mother and aunt.

 May 10: He felt so alone and wonderful at the same time seeing a
beautiful scenery which was so quite. For a werther nature itself a
kind of painting because as a human we play an important role
interpreting the world through our eyes ears nose etc.
 May 12: He believed that this scene can hurt two faced people but for
him its seemed like paradise and it calmed him. In front of the house
the fountain which was band by his sister and Mclusion. Few steps
away the water of clearest crystal from the marble rock. The tall tree
cooler of the place added more charm to the place . It was so good to
see young girls fetching water and old ancestors talking with each
other and reviving old memories.

Analysis
 May 13: he actually responded to his friend’s question talking about his
books. He said he doesn’t want them as these books took him to
fairyland. He doesn't need story rather to needs acclaiming lullaby. He
further said he was heart broken and treated his heart as a sick child
and satisfying his self in every possible way.
 May 15: He said the people of the place knew me and love me
especially children. When at first he felled to children, some of them
mocked him but he don’t let it effect him. He referred that person who
avoid people in the fear of losing respect is actually covered himself
from his enemy. The other day he helped servant girl who was looking
around for her companion to help her in setting the pitcher on her
head.

 May 17: He made all sort of contact but not found any society. When he
allow himself he enjoy conversation of people. He speaks of female
friend of his youth who passed away. He weep for the fun he shared,
the exchange of their witty remarks. Never he can forget her firm mind
or her heavily patience.
After few day, he met a frank who just left the university. He
had a large store of knowledge. When he heard that I was drawing a
good deal he actually care to show his whole store of learning. The
man had nine children. His elder daughter is mentioned by many of
town’s peoples. He lived at loyal hunting hedges which was half & one
hour away from walking. He lived there after his wife death. He invited
werther at this place which he accepted.

Analysis
 May 22: Wilhelm is the person to werther wrote all these letters. He
said that the life of the man is a dream. He examined and found that
there is a world, but a world is rather of imagination and desires, than
of distinctness and living power. He added that all doctors and
professors agreed that children do not understand the cause of them
desires, in the same way grown up should be treated like the small
ones. He knew that his friend will said that children are happiest,
carefree. they are actually happy creatures. He further alludes to
suicide saying
“Leave this prison whenever he likes”

 May 26: He actually has old ways of setting anywhere. As a result he
easily settled in this new place. He have the whole view of valley from
there. It was so peaceful that he often read there. There was a lady
too who lived there and earn a small inn. One afternoon, he saw a 4
year boy holding 6 month old baby in his hand. It was so adorable that
he sketched it.

Analysis
 May 27: He was sitting on plough for two hours and then there he saw
a young women who had a basket in her arms. She was running
toward her children. Werther approached her and asked if she was a
mother of them. She nodded. After talking I got to know that she was a
daughter of school master and her husband was in Switzerland. She
prayed that his husband was ok since she was not heard him since his
departure. After that, she left but he visited her quite often, the children
become quite familiar to him and talked with him which made him
happy.

Analysis
 May 30: There was a pantry outside house to drink coffee under the
lined trees. He was not pleased with the company. There he saw a
peasant whose appearance pleased him. He talked to him and he told
a tragic story, the boy was in love with widow he woks for and that
widow was treated so badly with her ex husband that she decided not
he marry again. The guy was so heart broken and the love was written
all over his face when he was describing her.

Analysis
 June 16: werther was not been able to write a letter. He wanted to
write a letter but he cannot even sit long enough to write down a letter,
he intrepid his letter to pay his beloved visit. He doesn’t know how to
describe her. She is perfection for him. He cannot stay away from her
and while a supper he decided to write a letter to his friend. He
mentioned that few day days back he told about the distinct judge who
invited him and he neglected going. He would have never gone if
chance had not discovered. He was in a hall(where people dance and
enjoy) in the country and it was the place where he met charlotte. Her
first expression was she as a mother , tending to her children . There
was six children from age 11 to two years

Analysis
 June 16: running around the hall and a lady of a middle height was
holding a loaf in her hand and was cutting a slice for little ones all
around. Her cheerfulness, grace and charm strike him immediately,
perhaps he already know she was engaged. She apologized for being
late and advice his young sister to take care of little ones. Charlotte
and her aunt greeted each other and settled down. As they drove to
the dance, they discussed literature and discovered that they both
enjoy same book. While dancing he discovered that they were
perfectly danced with each other as well. Charlotte was reserved for
second dance but she promised she dance with him third.

 June 16: They danced again, they passed through a women who
waved charlotte in a threatening tone with a word “ALBERT”. Werther
asked her abut Albert, he surprised to know that Albert is her fiancé.
His heart was torn into pieces after hearing this. They played counting
but weather's mind was all dumb.

 June 19: werther not even remember when he went home. He only
knew it was 2 in the morning when he went to bed. He further told his
friend that when he was returning to home the rain fell drop by drop
from the trees. Charlotte asked if he doesn’t want to sleep, he replied,
“As long as I see these eyes open , there is no fear
of falling asleep”

 June 21: He said wilhelm that he was so happy these days. Its never
like that he never fasted joy but it was something different. He felt like
he was complete. Everything makes him happy and he doesn’t know
how to express his feelings.

 June 29: Werther begin to visits charlotte frequently. He moved to
wehlheim as to be near to them. Werther played with her young
siblings as though as they are his own. He told his friend that he loved
the company of young ones.

 August 8: he told wilhelm that he rarely speak about those who give
him advice about to accept that it was going to happen. Also he has
one objection that a person ha to select b/w two alternatives. Through
there are many opinions but every opinion has its own features.
Werther knows that it friend will say him to agree this agreement and
to cut this unrealistic dilemma. He knows that his friend will encourage
him to be a man and shake off a miserable person but according to
him he say that there will be a moment when he will rise up and fly
away from this place. He know he acting like child but still he haven't
thought of acting with great sense.

 August 10: he says if he wont fool then he lived most happiest and
delightful life . He feel it too sensibly that his heart alone makes
happiness. He imagines of being into this charming family, to be loved
by father of son, by the children as a father and by charlotte. Albert
who will never disturbed his happiness and than thought of this bring
tears in his eyes. Albert tells him about charlotte, her real mother. He
walk by his side and pluck the flowers and throw them into stream and
watch them float away. Werther told that Albert had received a govt.
appointment with a very good salary.

“Weary of liberty, he suffered himself to
be saddled and bridled, and was ridden to
death for his pains.”

The beginning of Book Two is diversified into different paths;
it’s almost a mirror image of Book One. Book One start in a
rural area where Werther is like to the people he socializes
with.

Analysis
Werther takes the job at court to break out the irresolvable emotional
triangle he has found himself in with Lotte and Albert. Werther letters has
created a different situation which shows a noble effort at moving on. He
writes one letter to Lotte, while holed up in a rustic inn during a winter
storm, and another letter to Albert after hearing of their marriage. He
writes to Lotte that a reminder of her was his
first happy moment in a long time.
He finds a great pact of success at the Court, winning the favor of the
influential Count C, as well as the quieter admiration of the Court Minister.
No matter how loudly Werther commits himself to "hard work," it seems
that he cannot bear situation in which his intelligence and heart must take
a backseat. Werther is not one to cooperation, and the world of law is built
on cooperation, and which we can also view in the irregularity of his letters
during his time under the Minister. Werther has embedded with obsession
and thus the memories of his obsession his letters have suffered too.

Analysis
September 12:
Lotte and Werther experience a strange courtship ritual when Lotte
passes Werther a bird that has just pecked at her lips. Lotte and
Werther's growing relationship: their connection, from the beginning,
has been based on a romantic affinity with Nature, it is the only medium
through which Lotte and Werther are allowed to share their love. The
bird, as a representative of nature, symbolizes this connection.

 Sep5: Charlotte had written a letter to her husband in this she said to
him that please come back as soon as possible.
 Sep6: He bought a new blue coat along with waist coat and
pantaloons that precisely similar that he wore first time when he danced
with Charlotte. But it doesn’t produce same effect upon him.
 Sep12: She has been absent for some days . He express his love to
her and she knows how much he love to her.
 Sep15: He reminds his old memories with the tree. which was being
cut due to disturbance

 Oct10: The look of her eyes is a source of happiness to me. But I
m sad because my friend Albert is not looking happy as he.
 Oct12: She reminds the time which she spend with him when
everything was like a dream but now everything is full of sorrows and
pains.
Oct19: He is feeling failed and has a fearful thoughts in his mind.
Oct26: A friend of Charlotte’s called to see her just now they are
talking about the news of the town. And my imagination where I see
them struggling against death with all the agonies of pains and horror.
Oct27: I’m thinking that why no one communicate with me with love,
joy and delight. May be I cannot make them happy.

Oct27: (evening) I wanted to hide my emotions but I’m nothing
without her.
Oct30: Many times I express my feelings to her and so much
loveliness was passing between us. But now nothing.
Nov3: Every night I go to sleep I hope that I may never get up again
but today’s morning when I open my eyes I feel it to sadly. But I know
that I’m alone the cause of my own. And now I lost the charm of life
no sentiments nothing..
Nov8: I have lately been in the habit of drinking more wine . Which
Charlotte don’t like and said to me, “don’t do it”.
Nov15: Thank you Wilhelm for your sympathy and for your excellent
advise but leave me with my suffering, I have still strength enough for
endurance.

Analysis
Nov21: Yesterday, when I took leave she stops me and said dear
Werther but I can’t believe that she called me dear. I repeated this
word “dear Werther” hundred times and before sleeping I said to me
“good night dear Werther” and laugh at my self.
Nov22: I said, I can’t pray please give her to me. In this way I make
myself happy.
Nov24 :This morning she was alone and silent. I thought why was I
afraid to lob myself at her feet? She had play piano for relief and look
extremely beautiful.
Nov26: Oftentimes before I feel stressed but after reading an
ancient post. I seem to understand my own heart.
Nov30: About dinner time, I went to walk by the river side.
Everything around seemed gloomy. Where I saw a man who said my
father planted a flower but I can’t find them.

Analysis
 Dec1: Wilhelm , the man whom I wrote to you that was Charlotte’s
father . He was unhappy for her . This made him mad.
 Dec4: Today I was sitting with Charlotte . She was playing her piano
. A delight full melody but my eyes filled with tears . Her melody which
was my favorite recalls my sorrows.
 Dec6: He haunts me every where , walking or sleeping. She fills my
entire souls. I don’t know how to describe it.
 Dec12: Dear Wilhelm , I’m reduced to the condition of those
unfortunate wretches who believe they are persuade by an evil spirits.
I didn’t face that situation so I turned my eyes to my favorite spot.
 Dec15: Dear Wilhelm , I don’t know how to express my love to her .
Her company her destiny her understanding for me have power still to
take out tears from my eyes .

Analysis
 Dec15: willpower to quit this world had now taken fixed belongings of
werther’s soul. While charlotte return this thought had been final object of
all his hopes and wishes.
 Dec20: it was difficult to explain the emotions of charlotte, the same day
werther mentioned letter to his friend. Then he came to charlotte’s home
where she was alone. She was distributing little gift to her sisters and
brothers.
Albert started asking question to his wife for some household matters. So
werther return to his home and wrote letter to charlotte before his death
where he claimed that its all over.
After her last conversation with Werther, she found how painful to herself
it would be to refuse his visits, and knew how harshly he would suffer from
their partition. He put down some books and made question about it.

Until he was hoping that her friends might arrive in short time.
Charlotte once was sitting alone and analyzed herself and took her mind
in control she truly loved her husband and to whom she was forever
united. And to whom she believes a special gift from heaven for her.
While on other hand Werther also became dear for her.
There was special kind of relations between them after their very first
meeting. She used to communicate every though and feeling to them
which interested them.
She could not decide on anything to which she could give a consent.
While she heard werther coming she recognized the voice. He put down
some books he had bought with him and made exploration about some
others.

Analysis
while she hoped that her friend would arrive. She felt so anxious that her
servant should remain somewhere else but she distorted her mind then.
He also acquired to werther that didn’t he bring anything to read for her.
He actually had nothing. After sometime he sat down and with eyes full of
tear read the paragraph.
After it charlotte started crying and it actually gave her break, according to
them their own fate was pictured in misfortunes of occasion's heroes.
They felt it together.
She improved herself then and begged werther to leave her. He further
started reading in a voice broken by sobs.

Analysis
The left and was lost to her. And someone she could not bring back
to her. She exclaimed that you are not going to see me anymore.
Then werther ran out of the door of the town and the guard let him go
and did not say anything to him and let him leave the town.
She was thinking that how could she loom her husband and confess
a scene her husband that how could she conceal. she was scared
that her husband would not like the visit of Werther and it would
trouble him.

Analysis
The servant of werther gave a letter to Albert and give pistols to albert.
She was at one moment going to her husband and threw herself on his
feet and said that she might acknowledged her faults but then she
thought that it would be useless.
Servant then return and give letter to werther and he started reading
that.
While servant woke her up and told them about werther , charlotte felt
senseless on Albert feet.
While the surgeon came to his unfortunate. Werther was lying on the
floor his continue was so serious but still he managed to take breathe.
Everyone immediately arrived there to see werther. They eldest boy who
was his favorite hung over him until he expired.
The steward and his sons followed the corpse to the grave, while Albert
was unable to be there.
No priest attended and the body was carried out by laborers.
