2. Q: Where is GM stock listed for trading?
A: GM common stock is listed for trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol quot;GMquot; and is
also listed for trading on exchanges in Brussels and Paris. The stock first traded on the NYSE on December 20,
1916.
Q: When was GM founded?
A: The General Motors Company of New Jersey was organized on September 16, 1908. It was succeeded on
October 13, 1916, by General Motors Corporation, which was incorporated under Delaware law and acquired all
the stock of General Motors Company.
Q: Is GM included in the Dow-Jones Industrial Average?
A: GM is a component of the Dow-Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), the first U.S. stock index and the oldest index
in the world. Created in 1896, the DJIA today offers a price-weighted average of 30 significant stocks traded on the
NYSE and the NASDAQ. GM was first listed there in 1915 and has been a continuous component of the DJIA
since 1925.
Q: What is the CUSIP number for GM stock?
A: The CUSIP number for GM common stock is 370442105. The CUSIP number is an identification number
assigned to all stocks and registered bonds. The Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures
(CUSIP) oversees the entire CUSIP system, which is used in the U.S. and Canada.
Q: What is a lost stockholder?
A: If you are a stockholder who is receiving quarterly dividend checks but not cashing all of them, you may be at
risk of becoming a quot;lost stockholder.quot; According to state law, if dividend checks from any of your investments
remain uncashed over a period of time, or if you do not keep your address of record current, you may be
considered a quot;lost stockholder,quot; and your shares and dividends may become abandoned property.
General Motors must comply with state law requiring, after a given length of time, that uncashed checks and
corresponding shares be remitted to the state of your last known address on file with GM's stock transfer agent,
Computershare. The state may then sell your shares and become custodian for the funds indefinitely. The timing of
these actions varies by state. Any potential loss in stock value in the event of sale is not the responsibility of the
state, GM, or Computershare.
Q: How can I determine the cost basis for my stock?
A:Documents for helping you determine your cost basis are found on this Web site. However, GM does not offer
tax advice and urges you to consult your own tax advisor.
Q: Can I buy stock directly from the company without going through a broker?
A: No, you cannot purchase General Motors common stock directly from General Motors. General Motors common
stock is available for purchase through a bank or broker that deals in securities traded on the New York Stock
Exchange.
Q: What is book entry?
A: General Motors uses a modern form of registered stock ownership called book entry or direct registration.
Although no certificates are issued, the book-entry owners of the security are registered on the books of the
company and, in lieu of certificates, receive account statements. Book-entry ownership is more convenient for
some investors because it eliminates the risk of lost certificates and the cost to replace lost or stolen certificates,
and the sale or transfer of the stock is simplified. In November 1999, GM began issuing all new shares of $1-2/3
common stock in book entry rather than certificated form, unless otherwise specified by the stockholder.

A: Companies that publicly trade securities often use transfer agents to maintain the records of individuals and
entities that own their stocks. Most transfer agents are banks or trust companies. Computershare Trust Company,

Every one of GM's mailings to registered stockholders, such as year-end tax reporting forms, or the proxy
statement and annual report, is based upon the records held by Computershare. Old or incomplete addresses can
slow down your receipt of mail or result in lack of delivery of important materials related to your stock account.
Registered stockholders who do not maintain a current address with Computershare risk having their accounts
escheated. This means the state of the stockholder's last registered address can become custodian of the
stockholder's assets after a certain length of time. Every state has its own regulations on what time period must
pass before accounts can be remitted to the state.

Q: How do I buy GM bonds, notes, or debentures?
A: GM's retail bonds, senior notes, and convertible senior debentures are available only through a broker. They are
issued in book-entry form only through the facilities of The Depository Trust Company (DTC). GM pays interest
