44. Imagine…….
• An injectable microfilm goes into the body
• Releases a drug layer by layer
• Over a period of ………. long time
• Long ? How much long ??
• 1 week? 1 month? 6 months ??? STILL LONGER…
• More than a year
• Give anti-TB drug only once, and Will it be done?

Hinweis der Redaktion
In the GI tract laminate absorbs fluid & gets swollen, which generates hydrodynamic pressure
Edible vaccine significantly reduces burden of diseases like hepatitis and diarrhea in country like India where administration of vaccines major problem.
Edible vaccines prepared from molecular farming by using genetic engineering techniques.
Selected gene introduced in plant and this transgenic plant encodes required protein.
Ease of administration.
Eliminate the concern about transmission of human and animal pathogens by vaccines.
Reduce the need for trained medical personnel to administer the vaccine.
Remove the need for needles and syringes.
Convenience and safety in storing and transporting vaccines .
Delivery of multiple antigens.
Possible production of vaccines with low costs.
Adjuvant for immune response is not necessary.
Excellent safety and economic feasibility of oral administration compared to injection.
E.g. Hepatitis B, Norwalk virus for diarrhoea, Rabies, Corona virus for gastroenteritis, cholera, HIV virus, Typhoid, Polio
Small pellets like rice grains are inserted under the skin usually in the lower abdominal wall or near upper gluteal region with a small incision made under LA and the closed with a skin tape. They release the drug at a constant rate and therefore avoid fluctuations in women with low levels of hormones. Painless, almost needleless. Helpful in migraine & menstrual headaches.
Vortical flow
Needleless, painless, rapid delivery of drug with almost 100% bioavailability. Eg. Naloxone (opiod antagonist) for respiratory distress & midazolam (short acting BZD) for seizures in children.
Sirolimus is a macrolide & immunosupressant.
Paclitaxel is a mitotic inhibitor & used in Ca chemothearpy.
PDS- polydioxanone system
Lacrisert - Acts as an artificial tear gland (A substitute for artificial tears)
Placed in the conjunctival sac and softens within 1 hour and completely dissolves within 14 to 18 h
Stabilizes and thickens the pre-corneal tear film and prolongs the tear film break-up time
NDA – New Drug Application
Subcutaneous, both deliver drugs but jet delivers it to a larger surface area, therefore more bioavailability
Controlled, compliant
Use polymer based & nanotechnology.
A liposome is a synthetic spherical vesicle with a membrane composed of a phospholipid & cholesterol bilayer consisting of hydrophilic and hydrophobic layers used as a vector for carrying lipid soluble, water soluble & also DNA to the target tissues.
The design, characterization, production of structures, devices by controlling shape and size to nanometric scale (10-9 meters)
Allotropes of carbon with cylindrical nanostructure. Members of fullerene structural family.
Enhanced solubility & allows efficient tumour targeting / drug delivery.
Have same structure (skeleton) as RBCs & therefore the name.
