Fall Workshop

Competition Practice
Competition practice will begin October 18 from 3:00-5:00pm and will be held on
every Thursday except for the weeks of our Booster’s Meeting , then it will be on

2. Walk 4 Water
Thank you to everyone who helped in some shape, form, or fashion during this event that was held on September 15 to
raise money to fund a well in South Sudan. While we do not have an exact total to report yet, totals from donations that
day and online will likely exceed $17,000. Think of the lives that will literally be saved because folks will now have ac-
cess to clean water. It should make you proud to be part of this type of event!
DECA Diamond Point System
To encourage and reward active participation in DECA, we have a DECA Diamond Point System. For
each activity, you obtain points. You must have 20 points in order to attend the Fall Conference in Indi-
anapolis. Please look through the newsletter for point earning opportunities. Remember that everyone
is an important part of our DECA team!
Autism Project
The Autism project has an additional campaign this year along with the bracelets. It is Campaign
7. You can sign up for $7/month or $84/year in support of the Michala Riggle Beat Autism Foun-
dation goal of $5,000,000. See Alexis Schmidt, Katie Atkins or Lauren Allen for more informa-
tion. We will be making bracelets at the Bead Bash on September 27 from 3pm - 5pm. A great
opportunity to help a great cause and earn points.
Tailgating & Pizza Party
DECA will be having a Tailgating & Pizza party on September 28 from 3:30-5:00pm for all DECA members only. If you
plan to attend, please sign the sheet which is posted so enough pizzas can be purchased. Members should either bring
their own soda or a $1 to purchase one from our machine in the Tech Building lobby.
Honeyfest - Parade & Autism Booth
DECA will be participating in the Honeyfest Parade on September 29. Meet Mr. Embry at 8:30am at the
Midway Pharmacy parking lot. You will earn 5 points if you walk in the parade. Bring bags of candy for the
parade and earn 1 point per bag - limit 6 bags.
Help with the Beading to Beat Autism booth at the on September 29. Sign-up sheet is posted in room 68.
You will earn 5 points for participating.
MDA Muscle Walk
The Muscle Walk will be held on October 14 from 2:00-4:00pm with registration
beginning at 1:30pm. The 3 mile event begins and ends at the Grayson County
Fairgrounds. Registration is $10 for Adults, $5 for ages 4-10 and Free for 3 and
under. Proceeds go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help others get the
medical care and devices they need and send kids to summer camp. Plan to at-
tend and “Move a Muscle, Make a Difference”
Operation Christmas Child
Join in helping those around the world receive the message of hope, joy and love during the Christ-
mas season. Bring in supplies that will be used to pack shoeboxes that will be sent through the Sa-
maritan’s Purse organization to those identified as in need in over 100 countries. We will be collecting
small toys & hard candy in October. We will be packing shoeboxes on November 8 at 3pm.
Our goal is 50 shoeboxes.
Halloween Safe Spot
Please bring in candy for the Annual Halloween Safe Spot event held at the Fairgrounds on October 31 from 5:00-
8:00pm. You will earn 1 point per bag - limit 6 bags.
Next Booster Meeting will be on October 9 at 5:00pm. Butter Braid Bread order forms will be available at
that time as we begin our holiday sale’s drive.
Next Chapter Meeting will be on November 29.
