In Botswana, 17 000 peoples died because of AIDS in 2007 (Source UNAIDS/UHO)
AIDS was discovered in US (1981) HIV started in Central Africa (Blood Samples from 1960-1970) It is in the Middle of 20th century referred as an epidemic What is the Origin?
What is the difference between HIV and AIDS? AIDS  =group of serious illnesses affecting HIV positive people (because of lowered immunity caused by the virus)  HIV = the virus affecting the immune system
An infections that people with HIV have problems fighting due to their weakened immune system.  Such as: A specific lung infection (PCP) A specific eye infection (CMV) Candida (thrush to mouth or vagina) Tuberculosis (TB) “What is an opportunistic infection”
Some people survive up to ten years or more without showing any symptoms of AIDS. 	But after , all people with HIV start to develop AIDS
HIV is present in Blood and blood products Semen Secretions from the vagina and cervix Breast milk
HIV is NOT present in  Urine, faeces, vomit, and swet
SHIV is present in  VERY SMALL quantities in: Saliva, tears, boil and  blister fluid
	Being infected with HIV does not mean one has AIDS.
The estimated number of people with HIV/AIDS is about 1,185,000 in US with approximately 25% of them unaware of their infection. (2006) (According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in the U.S.)
Number of people living  with HIV in 2007 (world): Total		33 million Adults		30.8 million Women	15.5 million Children under 15 years		2.0 million Source : WHO/UNAIDS
AIDS death in 2007 (world): Total		2.0 million Adults		1.8 million Children (under 15 y)	270 000 Source : WHO/UNAIDS
Estimated number of adults living with HIV in Botswana in 2007 : 25% (Source UNAIDS/UHO)
In Botswana, the estimated number of AIDS related orphans is 110 000 children (Source UNAIDS/UHO)
In 2007, the estimated number of  people receiving antiretroviral  therapy is 99 000 people needing one: 130 000 (Source UNAIDS/UHO)
