3. AIDS IN THE WORLD

More than 35 million people now live with
HIV/AIDS.

Only 3,600 in Lebanon (2012).

In 2012, an estimated 2.3 million people were newly
infected with HIV.

Every day nearly 6,300 people contract HIV—
nearly 262 every hour.

4. WHAT IS HIV?

H – Human – This particular virus can only infect
human beings.

I – Immunodeficiency – HIV weakens your immune
system by destroying important cells that fight
disease and infection.

V – Virus – A virus can only reproduce itself
by taking over a cell in the body of its host.

A – Acquired – AIDS is not something you inherit
from your parents. You acquire AIDS after birth.

I – Immuno – Your body's immune system that work
to fight off infection or disease.

S – Syndrome – A syndrome is a collection of
symptoms and signs of disease(wide range of
complications and symptoms).

Monogamy
Mutual monogamy means to be faithful with only
one partner.

Condoms
When used consistently and correctly, condoms are
highly effective in preventing HIV infection.

Don’t share needles, razors and blood
contaminated equipments.

HIV+ women should avoid pregnancy.
