3. Welcome to Kashiyatra, one of India’s oldest cultural
festivals of engineering colleges. Established in 1919,
Indian Institute of Technology BHU Varanasi is the
confluence of the old and the new. Situated in the cultural
capital of India, we not only embrace the Indian heritage
but also the modern world, incorporated as this year’s
theme for Kashiyatra: Broadening boundaries…
The Fine Arts events of Kashiyatra attracts a huge crowd
and participation from various parts of the country as well
as the city. This event is famous for bringing variations to
the traditional rules of fine arts and challenging the world
resulting in creating unique visual arts. This year too, like
every other year, Toolika has introduced 3 new events
which have never happened in college level in Varanasi
before.
4. Magical Fingers
Hand Painting
If you don’t know how to paint, this is the perfect place for you to start. You don’t need to know
any pencil drawing or brush stroke. Just dip your fingers into the paint bottles and let your
imagination flow on the paper.
Rules:
• Teams of maximum two members.
• Theme will be given on the spot.
• Drawing sheet, poster colour, palette, thread and cotton will be provided. No other material,
such as pencil or paintbrush, is allowed.
• Duration: 2 hours.
Prizes:
• 1st prize: Rs. 3000
• 2nd prize: Rs. 2000
• 3rd prize: Rs. 1000
5. Silly Street
Street Painting
How good are you at painting on big and rough canvases? We always paint on the canvas of life;
let’s try a street this time. Take up the brushes, and fill the street (oh, not literally, only the space
provided to you) with your beautiful painting. And yes, try to make it 3D.
Rules:
• Teams of maximum 5 members.
• Theme will be given on the spot.
• A4 sheet, pencil, poster colour, brushes and relevant materials will be provided for prelims.
No other material is allowed. 3D models will be preferred.
• 5 teams will be selected for final where they will be given 5x5 sq.ft space on a street where
they have to paint the same painting as that in the prelims (little changes are allowed).
Paints, brushes and all the relevant materials will be provided for finals.
• Duration (prelims + finals): 1+4 hours.
Prizes:
• 1st prize: Rs. 4000
• 2nd prize: Rs. 2500
• 3rd prize: Rs. 1500
6. Artriathalon
The Art Marathon
How many types of art activities can you complete at a given time? How good are you at various
art forms? At the same time, how fast are you? Can you give your best at a short time? Come and
join artriathalon, the art marathon.
Rules:
• Teams of maximum 3 members.
• 3 tasks as well as the corresponding themes will be given on the spot. All the tasks have to be
completed in the given time period.
• All the relevant materials will be provided at the beginning of the event. No other material is
allowed. Participants are free to choose the order of completing the tasks, whether together
or one by one.
• Duration: 3 hours.
Prizes:
• 1st prize: Rs. 3000
• 2nd prize: Rs. 2000
• 3rd prize: Rs. 1000
7. Sarcastoon
Spoof Cartooning
Sometimes satire is all cartooning is about. And to make it more fun, let us mix parody to it. No
offence to the great painters, but haven’t you ever imagined Mona Lisa giving us an angry look or
Indian politicians having The Last Supper with Jesus? Mix satire, sarcasm and the art of parodying.
Parody a famous painting with a quotation and let the world know how good you are.
Rules:
• Teams of maximum 1 member.
• Photographs of some famous paintings will be provided. The
participant will choose one painting and make parody on it.
• Drawing sheet, pencil, black pen, sketch pens etc. will be
provided. No other material will be allowed.
• Judging criteria: relevance to the original painting,
innovation, cartooning quality, caption.
• Duration: 1.5 hours.
Prizes:
• 1st prize: Rs. 2000
• 2nd prize: Rs. 1000
• 3rd prize: Rs. 500
8. Vastrace
T-shirt Designing
Be your fantasies and wear your creations as you express yourself on your T-shirt.
Rules:
• Teams of maximum 3 members.
• Colours, brushes, t-shirts, scissors, thread and other materials will be provided.
• Theme will be given on the spot.
• Duration: 2 hours.
Prizes:
• 1st prize: Rs. 4000
• 2nd prize: Rs. 2500
• 3rd prize: Rs. 1500
9. Junkie Master
Junk Art Competition
How good are you at crafting? How many times have you made something out of clay, wire,
paper or cardboard? Have you ever tried making models, sculptures or any modern art piece with
junk? Convert the given junks aesthetically into something meaningful, which touches the heart
and soul.
Rules:
• Teams of maximum 3 members.
• Various necessary materials, viz. glue, cello tape, cardboard, cutter etc. will be provided.
• All the junk materials will also be provided. Use of extra materials, such as tree leaves, sticks
or such heavily abundant materials in the competition area might be allowed, and will be on
the organizer’s discretion.
• Judging criteria: explanation, aesthetic beauty, innovation, use of materials.
• Duration: 2 hours.

10. The Storyteller
Comic Strip Writing
Did you spend your childhood reading Spiderman, Superman or any other Marvel or Raj comics?
Did you ever send a story to Tinkle wishing to see it being illustrated? Here is your chance to get
noticed. Write a story, illustrate it and win exciting prizes. You might also get published!
Rules:
• Teams of maximum 2 members.
• The illustrated story should consist of minimum 2 A4 sheets and maximum 8 A4 sheets, each
sheet divided into 3 equal panels; i.e. the comic should have minimum 6 panels and
maximum 24 panels. The illustrator(s) has the freedom to divide the panels according to
his/her/their requirement.
• All the illustrations should be done by hand and no computer graphics will be allowed.
• Both the story and the illustration should be original and a declaration must be attached by
both the team members regarding the originality.
• Scanned copies (or high resolution photographs) of the sheets should be mailed to
faciitbhu@gmail.com on or before 20th January, 2014 with names of the participants and
school/college name.

• Judging criteria: story and illustration will have 50-50 weightage in judging.

A) Tattoons: The tattoo making competition
Rules:
Teams should consist of one artist and one volunteer. However, the artist is also allowed to draw
tattoo on himself/herself.
• CD markers will be provided.
• Theme will be given on the spot.
B) Shringar: The mehendi competition
Rules:
• Mehendi cones will be provided.
• The duration is 1 hour.
• The mehendi design should be on one hand only.

Fine Arts and Fun…
C) The giant painting:
Do you like keeping your hands dirty, literally? A huge painting will be drawn live during
Kashiyatra. The canvas and the colours will be provided on the spot. Everyone is welcome to take
part in painting and filling this giant canvas. No paintbrush will be provided. Have fun with colours
in this unseasonal Holi.
