  1. The ability to access and evaluate information is an essential life skill developed through various combinations of necessity, experience, and training.
  2. The core learning outcomes that are most directly related to the services provided by school library media programs are found in the first three standards and the thirteen indicators in the “information literacy” category. According to the first three standards, a student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively, evaluates information critically and competently, and uses information accurately and creatively.
  3. Indicators represent the key functions that information literacy instruction should require of students.
