INTRODUCTION
 Rama Prasad Goenka was born on March 1, 1930, to Keshav Prasad and Rukmini Devi Goenka
in Calcutta.
 He graduated from the Presidency College in Calcutta, in 1950. His father Keshav Prasad got RP
a job in a British company called Duncan Brothers as an Assistant.
 RP was unhappy working in Duncan Brothers due to the racism that existed there. But his
father requested him to stay on.This was because Keshav Prasad's dream was to take over Duncan
Brothers one day.
 Keshav Prasad's dream eventually came true when he bought over Duncan Brothers in the early
1960’s, which was lauded as a major achievement at that time.
 Under his aegis, and his sons' support, Duncan Brothers grew to become a huge and Prosperous
company.
Current Status
Rama Prasad Goenka is the chairman emeritus of the RPG group.
He is currently an M.P. In the rajya sabha, or upper house, of the indian parliament.
A trustee of
• The jawaharlal nehru memorial fund,
• The indira gandhi memorial trust.
• The rajiv gandhi foundation.
Other positions
Goenka also held the position of chairman of the board of governors,
international management institute
Former president of the FICCI
 The immediate past chairman of the board of governors of theindian
institue of technology in kharagpur.
Awards & Achievements
Lifetime Achievement Award 2006.
ICFAI awards 2008.
Order of the Sacred Treasure by the
Emperor of Japan. (Twice)
AIIMA Award.

 Rama Prasad Goenka ,established RPG Enterprises
in 1979 with
Phillips Carbon Black,
Asian Cables,
Agarpara Jute,
Murphy India as constituents.
The 80s see further acquisitions by the RPG group, the first
being
CEAT Tyres of India in 1981.
Searle India, now RPG Life Sciences (1983);
 Dunlop (1984);
Gramophone Company of India Ltd, now Saregama India
(1986);
Harrisons Malayalam, Spencer & Co. in 1989
RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group formed in 2010 .
RP Goenka currently oversees the group’s affairs as “Chairman
Emeritus” with Harsh Goenka as the Chairman.
Today, RPG Enterprises consists of over fifteen companies across key
business sectors, with a turnover touching Rs.15,000 cr.
