India After Independence
Aim:
To understood about condition of India After
Independence.
Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel:
* The process of merging the 562 princely states
in India, with the Indian Union was planned by the
then Home Minster Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel,
known as the 'Iron Man of India'.
Junagad State:
*Junagad did not volunteer to join the Indian Union and the Nawab of the
state was thinking of joining Pakistan.
*The Nawab fled to Pakistan and in view of the local public opinion.
*Sardar Patel merged the state with the Indian Union

Jammu and Kashmir

After Independence the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Raja Hari Singh

Delayed his decision to join the Indian Union

●

In the mean time Pakistan dicided to captured Jammu and Kashmir and invaded
some part of Kashmir
Raja Hari Singh decided joined Indian Union and wanted help by Indian union
26 th October 1947 Raja Hari Singh and Sheikh Abdullah agreed to join the
Indian Union
By the U NO ordered cease fire parts of Kashmir remained under the Pakistani
Occupation as India
Tashkent Agreement:

Signed by the Indian Prime Minister Lal
Bahadur Shastry and Pakistani President
Ayub Khan
Result : Decided to settle the issue by
peaceful negotiation.
Merger of Hyderabad State

First Step: Swami Ramanada Tirth founded the Hyderabad state
Congress in 1938 and started to organization of merger of the state.
Qasim Razvi established recruiteda para military force supported
Nizam to retain hyderabad as a free state
Second Step: Hyderdbad Congress gave a call organize' Accession
Day ' on August 7th and 'Independence Day' on August 15th
People of the state observed day by hoisting the tricolour flg and
defying the ban
Last Step: Govt of India tried to convension the Nizam but the did
not bear fruit
On 17th september Nizam surrendered and agreed to join Indian
Union.

Unification of Karnataka: Unification of speaking regions
under a single started called Karnataka attempeed early 1916
by Alur Venkata Rao
Karnataka Ekikarana maha samithi headed by S. Nijalingappa
continued the demand unification
In 1956 Fazal Ali commission of K.M. Panikhar and H.N.
Kunzru
1956 states reorganization act was passed by the parliament
in August 1956
Invention of Goa:

1928 T.B. Cunha founded the Goa congress
commitee and started agitation
Purushottam Kekodkar joined the movement 1500
people were Goa
Indian National Congress supported liberation
movement in Goa
Leaders were imprisoned Portuguese tried to take
action repressed against movement

In 1955 Dadra and Nagar Haveli liberation

Portuguese atrocities increased

●

In 1961 govt of India sent it's army and liberated Goa
The Problems of Refugees :
Problems of Refugees from Pakistan were solved by :

Govt of India had taken the responsibility providing shelter and
medical aid

●

Refugees were under the Dandakaranya project

●

Also settled in various parts of the country
Problems of Refugees from Tibet were solved by:

In 1954 Tibetian leader Dalai Lama and 80,000 Tibtans
came to India as refugees
They have being settled in 10 state including Karnataka
Tibetian refugees granted trained to take up Agriculture
proper technical training to take up self employment
project
They have provide in loan facilities and also provided
medical and education facilities
Problems of Refugees from Bangladesh solved by:

In 1971 refugees came to India they were provided
necessarry facilities by the govt
The Tribal people called Chakmas from Bangladesh
have migrated to Tripura state govt of India engaged
with talks with govt of Bangladesh
Problems of Refugees from Srilanka solves by:

The refugees from Srilanka saettled in
Tamilnadu,Keral,Karnataka and were granted
Shastry – Bandaranayake agreement resulted in
repatriation
Helped to six lakh Tamil speaking people Srilanka to
India.

  • 4. Aim: To understood about condition of India After Independence.
  • 5. Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel: * The process of merging the 562 princely states in India, with the Indian Union was planned by the then Home Minster Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel, known as the 'Iron Man of India'.
  • 6. Junagad State: *Junagad did not volunteer to join the Indian Union and the Nawab of the state was thinking of joining Pakistan. *The Nawab fled to Pakistan and in view of the local public opinion. *Sardar Patel merged the state with the Indian Union .
  • 7. Jammu and Kashmir ● After Independence the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Raja Hari Singh ● Delayed his decision to join the Indian Union ● ● ● ● In the mean time Pakistan dicided to captured Jammu and Kashmir and invaded some part of Kashmir Raja Hari Singh decided joined Indian Union and wanted help by Indian union 26 th October 1947 Raja Hari Singh and Sheikh Abdullah agreed to join the Indian Union By the U NO ordered cease fire parts of Kashmir remained under the Pakistani Occupation as India
  • 8. Tashkent Agreement: ● ● Signed by the Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastry and Pakistani President Ayub Khan Result : Decided to settle the issue by peaceful negotiation.
  • 9. Merger of Hyderabad State ● ● ● ● ● ● : First Step: Swami Ramanada Tirth founded the Hyderabad state Congress in 1938 and started to organization of merger of the state. Qasim Razvi established recruiteda para military force supported Nizam to retain hyderabad as a free state Second Step: Hyderdbad Congress gave a call organize' Accession Day ' on August 7th and 'Independence Day' on August 15th People of the state observed day by hoisting the tricolour flg and defying the ban Last Step: Govt of India tried to convension the Nizam but the did not bear fruit On 17th september Nizam surrendered and agreed to join Indian Union.

The Reorganizatio of States: ● ● ● ● Unification of Karnataka: Unification of speaking regions under a single started called Karnataka attempeed early 1916 by Alur Venkata Rao Karnataka Ekikarana maha samithi headed by S. Nijalingappa continued the demand unification In 1956 Fazal Ali commission of K.M. Panikhar and H.N. Kunzru 1956 states reorganization act was passed by the parliament in August 1956

Cunha founded the Goa congress commitee and started agitation Purushottam Kekodkar joined the movement 1500 people were Goa Indian National Congress supported liberation movement in Goa Leaders were imprisoned Portuguese tried to take action repressed against movement ● In 1955 Dadra and Nagar Haveli liberation ● Portuguese atrocities increased ● In 1961 govt of India sent it's army and liberated Goa
  • 12. The Problems of Refugees : Problems of Refugees from Pakistan were solved by : ● Govt of India had taken the responsibility providing shelter and medical aid ● Refugees were under the Dandakaranya project ● Also settled in various parts of the country

Problems of Refugees from Tibet were solved by: ● ● ● ● In 1954 Tibetian leader Dalai Lama and 80,000 Tibtans came to India as refugees They have being settled in 10 state including Karnataka Tibetian refugees granted trained to take up Agriculture proper technical training to take up self employment project They have provide in loan facilities and also provided medical and education facilities

  • 15. Problems of Refugees from Srilanka solves by: ● ● ● The refugees from Srilanka saettled in Tamilnadu,Keral,Karnataka and were granted Shastry – Bandaranayake agreement resulted in repatriation Helped to six lakh Tamil speaking people Srilanka to India.
