CHAPTER I
Background of the Study
English is the most widely used language in the world. It is spoken by around 400
million people. It is also the human capacity for acquiring and using complex
system of communication. The topic has significance and benefits for educators
or students in using the language.
Our purpose is to know the advantages and to know what benefits they will get if
they use the English language especially to those students who use it in
speaking and to those who are not. Some students in particular have advantages
and disadvantages in using the language. Students have self-confidence while
other don’t have. Students who apply the English language through speaking
enhance their skills and won’t be afraid to show it to any people. These are one
of the benefits when we apply it in our daily lives. In addition, it gives good
comprehension on how language works and used. It increased the ability and
quickened the mental ability of students.
We choose this topic so that students like us, will enlightened that using English
Language has benefits on us. We can use it in our upcoming future and it will
give us an easy-life. So, there is no reason to be afraid to speak it in front of
many people.

Statement of the Problem
1. What are the benefits of using English Language?
2. How to improve their skills?
3. Why do students of Consolacion National High School afraid to speak the
English Language?
Significance of the Study
The importance of this study is to know the main benefits of the educators in
committing to learn and use English language. It would really help the students to
enhance their fluency in speaking English.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
In study, we have gathered some statistics about high school students in
Consolacion National High School located at Poblacion Cosolacion Cebu and
how they apply the English language. We ask some students in Consolacion
National High School and they answer that have confident to speak English even
though they are outside the campus.

CHAPTER II
Review and Related Literature
A considerable amount of evidence suggests that approaches involving early
intervention, on-going progress monitoring it are associated to improve the
outcomes for the majority of students in using English Language. Considerably
less information exists, however, about the effectiveness of these approaches
with a growing population of students, English language learners at risk for
reading problems. We also have considerably less information about the types of
interventions that are effective for students who do not adequately respond to the
interventions that typically are effective. Such students are likely to be identified
as having learning disabilities.
Many educators, including those providing special education services, are
concerned that they do not have the knowledge and skills to appropriately
instruct English Language Learners. In some cases, these personnel are fearful
that their lack of knowledge of the student's native language renders them
incapable of providing valuable instruction. As a result, they may elect to do the
minimum amount needed to intervene and instruct. For this reason, it is essential
that educators be provided with the resources needed to support them in this
process. Being provided professional development for enhancement of
knowledge and skills is essential; in addition, a problem-solving team with
knowledge and experience working with English Language Learners can be a
valuable resource to facilitate decision making and to design instructional
5. 5
supports. In implementing English Language Learners, a significant challenge is
determining students' knowledge and skills in their first language and then
understanding their performance in their second language.
According to interviews with educational institutions across the five countries,
30% of students in higher education aim to continue their studies abroad,
specifically in English-speaking countries such as the UK, the US, Australia and
Canada. This can be attributed in part to historical relationships. Many people
see the ability to communicate and talk with others as one of the major benefits
of learning English. Even outside of a professional environment, people often like
to be able to talk to individuals from around the world. Many people find great
social and cultural benefits in having pen pals from other countries, and the
Internet makes such communication fast and easy. Knowing English can
broaden the types of people you can speak to, whether its via emailor on an
online discussion forum. A tremendous number of websites are available
primarily in English, and anyone who does not understand the language may
have difficulty using them. For anyone interested in traveling to countries in which
English is the primary or common language, it is often essential to understand
and speak it. Throughout the UK, US, and Canada, traveling and shopping are
often made easier by speaking the language since many individuals may not
speak any other language. One of the most important benefits of learning English
is the ability to explore these regions and more easily communicate with locals to
learn about places and events that might otherwise remain unknown. Many
people in European countries learn English in school, so knowing it can also be
6. 6
of benefit when traveling in locations even where it's not the native tongue.
Learning a language can also be a great way to meet people, even if you never
plan on leaving home. A class at a local community center or college can
introduce you to a wide variety of people who are also interested in English, and
give you the opportunity to interact with them in a controlled setting. Language
courses often encourage students to carry on conversations with each other in
the language being learned, and this can be a great way to break the ice with
new people.
A huge amount of popular entertainment comes out of Hollywood, and nearly all
of it is produced in English. American movies and TV programs are distributed all
over the world, and are often subtitled for people who don't speak the language.
Knowing English can allow you to better understand the subtleties of dialog that
subtitles frequently miss. It can be a challenge to translate concepts and terms
that don't match one-for-one between languages, and nuances of meaning can
be lost. Language is an inherently cultural construct. How people speak, the
words they choose, and the topics under discussion are deeply tied into the
culture of a place. By learning English or any other language, you are putting
yourself into the mindset of a native speaker and are introduced to many of the
concepts that he finds important. Gaining a better understanding of other cultures
can help you to enrich your own understanding of the world and how others see
it. People who do decide to learn English may need to consider what type of
English is best for them to know. The two most common forms are British English
and American English, and they can be quite different in some respects. The
7. 7
fundamental underlying language is the same, and people who learn one are
likely to still be easily understandable by someone who speaks the other, but
there will be instances in which words are phrases don't mean the same thing.
Much of the decision about which type of English to learn will depend on where a
student is learning it and what his or her ultimate goals are. To understand the
language generally, any type of class will be of help. Many people don't have a
wide variety of options to choose from, and a local college may only teach British
English, for example. Someone who lives in Europe is more likely to be taught
this form simply because he or she is closer geographically to the United
Kingdom. Individuals who are learning English for a job, however, might want to
seek out a class that is specifically tailored to business language or to the form
spoken in the country they will be doing business with. A person who will be
regularly working with an American company, for example, may better
understand the nuances of her coworkers if she is familiar with the terminology
and idioms of that country. Specialized classes also typically focus more on the
language used in business rather than casual conversation, which could be
important if that's the student's main goal.
A language is a systematic means of communication by the use of sounds or
conventional symbols. It is the code we all use to express ourselves and
communicate to others. It is a communication by word of mouth. It is the mental
faculty or power of vocal communication. It is a system for communicating ideas
and feelings using sounds, gestures, signs or marks. Any means of
communicating ideas, specifically, human speech, the expression of ideas by the
8. 8
voice and sounds articulated by the organs of the throat and mouth is a
language. This is a system for communication. A language is the written and
spoken methods of combining words to create meaning used by a particular
group of people. Language, so far as we know, is something specific to humans,
that is to say it is the basic capacity that distinguishes humans from all other
living beings. Language therefore remains potentially a communicative medium
capable of expressing ideas and concepts as well as moods, feelings and
attitudes. A set of linguists who based their assumptions of language on
psychology made claims that language is nothing but ‘habit formation’. According
to them, language is learnt through use, through practice. In their view, ‘the more
one is exposed to the use of language, the better one learns.

Research Design
Descriptive method - is concerned with the description of data and characteristics
about a population. The goal is the acquisition of factual, accurate and
systematic data that can be used in averages, frequencies and similar statistical
calculations. Descriptive studies seldom involve experimentation, as they are
more concerned with naturally occurring phenomena than with the observation of
controlled situations.
Source of Data
In collecting of data, the researchers usually to begins to work by asking
questions. Research is what a researchers does to find an answer. The
researcher need to read books, conduct scientific experiments. Researchers may
works in library, states and even in schools. The researchers also gathered
enough data in order to analyzed the data that they gathered. As the researchers
conduct this research topic, the researchers conduct brain storming, gathering
enough information and sharing of ideas so that we can completely conclude a
certain topic of a problem is the source of that information. This data that the
researchers gathered it helps by collecting information by the main topic of the
research. It becomes helpful and gives important for the said research.
10. 10
Instruments and Tools used
In their work, researchers generally have four goals, questioning, explanations,
predictions and modification of a certain research. We think first what will happen
if there is consequences after we do a research in a certain topic. The
researcher knows the ability of their group mates, they know the weakness and
their strength of mind but behind that situation, the researchers also used
instruments how to conduct a certain action to this certain research. Examples of
this instruments are computer, older research papers, magazines and
encyclopedia. They will make sure that the tools or instruments that they used
gave exact information to their research.
Procedures
As a researchers, we used a variety of methods to understand and to know the
main topic our research. Before we started this research to some students in
Consolacion, we conducted first a open forum or a group meeting. As the
meeting done, we make sure that the things that are needed to the research are
prepare, some of this preparation are questions, reasonable forums and the
things that need to be discuss. We followed some preparations together and
done it by step by step until it was perfectly done. First, we gave some
questionnaires and behind that questionnaires is the question that they need to
answered by the respective of Fourth Year High School students in cosolacion.
Then, they provide some questions that need to be answered by the Fourth Year
High School students orally. In the research, they do have given respective areas
11. 11
to be survey. After that, they group again and divided their tasks in their own well
in order to pass this research paper before to the due deadline. When they
Already divide their task, they look some places in order to initialized the survey
they get from the certain areas, they analyzed and study more the information
that they survey by the students. After they initialized, they finalized the data
gathered by the surveyed they done. They sum o all information they gathered.
As a result, they finally conclude and get the main focus of their research paper.
And the last, the main root of the report and the main importance behind that
research. The result of survey and the research topic are the most important part
of the research because the researchers can figure out why do some people
difficult in comes to speak English language.

Analysis and Interpretation of Data
Based on the survey, the graph represents how important of using the English
language. As we can see the graph, we can identify that most of the students are
answered YES because they know how really it helps the English language in
their daily lives also in up-coming future.
On the graph results, it is indicates that the high school students showed their
ability to used the English language.

CHAPTER V
Summary
As a summary of this research, the researchers took a lot of effort and time to
finish it. We give some questionnaire that would be fit the topic and that be
answered to the respondents. When we conduct a survey, we still continuing do
the research paper by giving a task by each member to complete the whole
chapter. As we make this research, we do our best to make it done before the
due date.
Conclusion
The responsibility is the thing people dread most of all. Yet, it is the one thing in
the world that develops us, give us manhood and womanhood fiber. And every
human being has a work to carry on within, duties to perform, influence to exert,
which are peculiarly his and wich no conscience but his own can teach as a
researchers. From the equality of rights spring identity of our highest interests,
you cannot subvert your own dreams without striking a dangerous blow at your
reality. The research that the researchers given states abort that no one can
overcome our frightened things if we cannot try to ride on it. As a group there will
be a consideration of a things that need to be considered.

Recommendation
As a researcher, we have a point of view to decide what is important things to do.
They have right of freedom to enjoy speak and etc. Researcher takes place as
the other of the research they had. This concept of individual is central to a
researcher that who can manage their works, to lead other as well. Thus
researcher did not have a change to have an experiment to the every daily
research but they have to study hard and to know the value of it. For the
researcher, they have to evaluate the concept of the research they get. In order
to materialized the things that the researcher need to cooperate each and
everyone in order to earn much time to speak, to write, to show the emotions and
etc. Researchers need to overcome the problems that they had to be
encountered everyday. And as researcher, they gonna take advantage to the
places, things and a recommended information that they used. This
recommendation well be to think as a researcher to be done every research.
