5. Types of audiences Conversation Size : an audience of up to 10 people. Speech Size : an audience of 10-40 people. Performance Size : an audience of 40-100 people. Show Size : an audience of 100 or more people.
6. Time of day What time of day is it? Will the audience be more or less receptive. when listening?
7. When ? Morning - use more information. Brunch/Lunch - the best time to expect a responsive audience. Afternoon – people start to get tired. Evening – don’t expect a great response.
8. The Setting The venue of presentation. Platform/stage. Availability of facilities. eg microphone, projector etc.
9. Venue Location and size of the room Seating arrangement Room temperature and lightning.
10. Occasion The occasion will dictate the content of the speech. The very first thing we must get to know before speaking in public is the occasion itself. Formal or in formal event.
11. Know the occasion Informative – keep the presentation brief. Persuasive – needs to know what the audience is thinking. Instructional – explanation and demonstration. Decision making – specific organizational technique.
