2. Investigated converting our existing
resources - modules, CDROMs and
Printed Resources - to make them
available on mobile devices.
3. ISSUES
Content formatting was inconsistent
& presentation information was
embedded.
Media tended to be failure points
needing to be amended, changed or
redone.

7. TADPOLE uses metamorphosis whereby there is conspicuous & abrupt
transformation accompanied by changes
in habitat or behaviour.
8. PROOF OF CONCEPT
The proof of concept sets out to test
how adaptive digital publishing can be
achieved.
9. PROOF OF CONCEPT
The main aim of the TADPOLE POC is
to test “adaptive content” through the
implementation of what the team has
coined as the Adaptive Media Element.
10. ADAPTIVE MEDIA ELEMENT
Adaptive Media Element is a meta object
& contains self-referential information.
It is not a single file, but a collection of
files and related information.
It is ultimately configurable to suits any
content types that require adaptive
properties.
12. AME BEING DEVELOPED
These are some of the most difficult and
common types of media used.
- Video
- Image
- Equations
- Data
- Readings
13. PROFILE
The profile defines what components of
each AME you want to use.
Each type of output requires a separate
profile.
The minimum we are testing in the POC
are for Print, eBook & Web.
15. PROFILE
Profiles could be used to define content
for context too, not just matching delivery
platforms.
For example: A profile could be written
for disability students with a specific
requirements. A profile could also be
developed with conditions relating to
copyright.
16. PUBLISHING ENGINE
The engine builds the output from the
logic contained in the profile.
The engine scans through the document
finding each AME reference and injects
the appropriate components according to
whats laid out in the profile.

18. OUTPUT
The output from the POC is the correctly
marked-up file.
This file can then have a presentation
layer applied and converted to the right
file type - PDF, ePub & HTML.
