7. Re-energizing Your Body – Is it a Priority for You?
We all know the importance of taking care of our bodies. The question is
are we doing everything we should be doing to keep our bodies fueled and
re-energized? Is it a priority for you? Now, think of your body as a very
high grade expensive car. Top of the line, limited edition and VERY
expensive.
• Do you make sure you tank is filled with premium fuel?
• Do you make sure take your car in for timely tune-ups? Do you fix your
car when it needs maintenance?
• Now think about you. Do you take care of you as well as you take care
of your car?
Many of us take better care of our cars than we do of ourselves!!

The remedy is very simple. You see, the fuel you need to operate at peak
performance and get the most mileage our of your body starts with some very basic
things like:
SLEEP
EXERCISE
NUTRITION
SELF CARE
10. Re-energize your body – Sleep, are you getting enough…?
Most of our society is sleep deprived. Studies show that many of us average
less than 6 hours of sleep a night. Many experts say we need at LEAST 7 to 9
hours a night (National Sleep Foundation). What happens when you are sleep
deprived?
Loss of memory and ability to focus
Lack of energy and motivation
Increased risk of cancer
Increased risk of stroke
Increased risk of obesity and chronic disease such as diabetes, heart
disease
Decreased mortality
If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be

Getting more sleep is very important when you are working on increasing your energy.
Another important part of increasing your energy is movement…exercise. We have become
an extremely sedentary society. Our laptops, computers, Ipads, cell phones, and video games
provide us with the ability to communicate and have fun…but they really don’t encourage us
to get up and move. PLUS – we have so many excuses:
Not enough time
Too busy
Too tired
No motivation
Not fun
She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. Proverbs 31:17 ESV

Re-energize your body – Eat to fuel your body
It is important that we eat food that is truly fueling our body. Many times we
eat food that has the opposite effect and drains our body of energy. Some of
these energy zappers are
Skipping meals
Big portions
Junk food
Caffeine
Not enough fruits and vegetables
Eating on the run
Late night snacking
Too much stress
Fatigue
Empty Calories
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth,
and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food- Genesis 1:29 ESV

Re-energize your body – Make self-care your priority
Too often we but ourselves on the back burner. We pour much of our life source into others,
our loved ones, friends, co-workers, neighbors, even strangers on the street. We are naturally
nurtures and caregivers. We were created to care and nurture others AND ourselves.
As a popular story goes …If you are on an airplane travelling with a child and the Captain
comes on and tells you that the oxygen mask are coming down because of turbulence, who do
you put the oxygen mask on first? The Captain will advise you to put the oxygen mask first on
yourself THEN your child. The same thing is true in life ….you have to take care of you first so
you can take care of everyone else.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church -
