Hinweis der Redaktion
Open your mobile device web browser and navigate to m.mdconsult.com or mobile.mdconsult.com. You can save the MDC icon to the desktop. Every time you access MDC you will need to login (this has been my experience regardless that it indicates otherwise!). MDC will ask you to reauthenticate your account yearly, to do this you must reassociate your account by logging in to your account from a hospital networked computer. MDC mobile is a subset of the desktop version.Browse by quick reference topics or search on a keyword phrase…
MDC allows you to search for any keyword or phrase, it may map the phrase to one of its QRT’s if available (for example, “loss of appetite” maps to “anorexia nervosa eating disorder”) or it will conduct a search using your keywords. I searched for “sensory processing dysfunction” it did not map it to a QRT but returned results of 5 books
13 clinics and 112 journal articles. I can click on the links to be brought to the fulltext of the article or book chapter (which I will show later). Clicking on the MDCm logo at the top will bring you back to the list of Quick Reference Topics.
To browse by QRT either scroll down or if you already know it type it in the search box. Here’s the QRT for Autism. The results are presented in subcategory groupings for Overview, Signs & Symptoms, Etiology, Diagnosis and so on.
Clicking on a subcategory brings you to that section and lists the pre-selected articles available. These articles are selected by subject experts and may or may not be the most recent publications. Clicking on the link will bring you to the fulltext of the book chapter or article. The fulltext will be “mobile viewing enabled” so it is easy to read on a smaller device screen.
Differences b/t FC & MDC: Except when first activating the app and downloading the content to your device, no username & password needed. Content is stored on your device so it can be accessed even without a data connection (handy in case of major disaster or emergency). Browse or search but if subject is not in FC then have to use a broader term or go to MDC.
Gives menu of sub-categories. Can go to the area that interests you. Difference b/t MDC & FC: Information is bullet pointed, summary form not entire book chapters or articles like in MDC
Diagnosis: very detailed information providing everything you might need to diagnose a specific condition or disease.
Treatment the same detailed information, includes summary of evidence for treatment, questions patients ask, questions a physician or nurse might ask and the answers, what to consider for referring a patient to another specialist
References link to publisher site for fulltext. The library may or may not subscribe to the journal via the publisher site or another vendor. If you are interested in a reference. You can take a screen shot (which I will talk about for today) of the citation and email to the library and we will look it up and order from another library if we don’t subscribe. in the Tips & Tricks.
