  1. Hello my name is Guadalupe Alvarado and I will be presenting how different generations communicate in the work force
  2. I will be talking about three topics . The first topic would be introducing the four types of generations. Secondly will be the different communication skills for each generation and finally the communication skill similarities between all four generations
  3. There are four generations working in the work force together. First are The Silent generation that were born from 1925 to 1945. next are Baby Boomers from 1946 to 1963. next are generation X or GenX from 1964 to 1979. then you have your Millennials from 1980 to 2000
  4. This chart states the percentage of united states total labor force participations by generation of 2010.as you can see here 5% of the silent generation are still in the work force following by baby boomers with 39%, then 32.2% are genx and finally the millennials that are at 24.7%
  5. This diagram shows the work characteristics for eachgeneration in the work force; from Work ethic and values, how each generation views work, leadership, interactive style ,prefer communication, feedback and rewards, motivation statements, and work and family life.
  6. The silent generation are the most traditionalists from all the generations. They perfer to be communicated with through formal written communication. Remember, most of the modern technology entered the work environment long after silents were already experienced workers. As well as face-to-face and phone calls.
  7. Communication with Baby Boomers is better received when it’s done in person using body language and a direct style. Allow them to obtain more details by asking questions and they can view your reaction . But still use phones and formal memos to communicate
  8. Communicating with Gen Xers should be direct one-on-one.As they are the starters of the new technology era. Its best to communicate with them by e-mail, because genxers value time. They are constantly seeking faster and better ways to complete their assignments but usage of phone is prefer also.
  9. As millennialswere born in a technology era and grew up suing different technology . There Communication skills are different from previous generationwith Millennials should be communication email, text, or Internet.
  10. As all four were moving forward into the technology era. The best way’s to communicate with all four generations in the force would be by formal writing and e-mail. As formal writing is still communicated as well as e-mail it bridges the communication gap between all four generation.
