SLIDESHARE
Slidehare is a social network, but it wasn´t intended as such, at the first.
In 2006, it was made as a website to host slides and share them in public or in
private. Initially it was intended for professionals with the intention of more easily
sharing slides between them, but it was growing until it became in a different
concept that came out in a real social network.
In 2012, LinkedIn acquired slideshare, but it wasn´t until 2015, when Slideshare
lived a regeneration in an attempt to professionalize and evolve, adding a great
number of applications and investments, today slideshare is known as Linkdln
slideshare and it has 70 millions of monthly active users and each month about
400 thousand presentations are uploaded to this network.
Slideshare allow upload power point slides, OpenOffice, PDF, Word documents
and even audio and video files.
WHAT IS SLIDESHARE FOR?
• To do dynamic presentations, it is much easier to show your presentation from
Slideshare than by moving it from one side to another or showing it on paper. In this
way you can have it always visible so that it reaches all those interested.
• To Share fresh and dynamic content, Slideshare allows you to share very visual
content, such as presentations or infographics, with all your followers.
USING SLIDESHARE FOR TEACHING…
Slideshare, as a didactic tool, it´s perfect for collaborative and cooperative tasks.
Everywhere we need to share information, slideshare allows the interaction with the
presentations, is to say students can write about what they are watching, they can
suggest changes, additions or investments to the showed topic. With slideshare I can
create a community or a discussing group, gathering students around a certain topic,
not just only the students of the class but students and people from around the world.
So if I need to teaching about irregular verbs, I can upload a document, either a few pages
of a novel or a textbook, and show to the class, students can read the text and catch the
verbs in their irregular past form, with slideshare, they can return or go forward during the
presentation, afterwards, I would collect the comments left at the comments box, it will give
to me a direction, where the class should go according with the proposed topic. To
communicate about the creation of a slide presentation, I can use zipcast service, it comes
with a free version, it allows create videoconferences or chat sessions, public or private.
Zipcast offers the opportunity to invite all your Facebook and twitter contacts to the
conference, what they are interested.
IMPORTANCE TO USE SLIDESHARE…
Education in the world, nowadays is more globalized, slideshare gives the
opportunity to share information and the advantage to be connected with the
world, all what you need is internet connection, because is free to get it and
easy to use it. in face-to-face environments, teachers who rely on
powerpoint to get their points across may become overly reliant on the
software to give the entire presentation, instead of speaking when they
should, the teacher may fall back on the powerpoint slides to tell her story,
creating an awkward silence in a room full of bored students, with slide
share powerpoint presentations can be more dynamic, rhythmical and less
passive.
Also, through a slideshare presentation students can identify the key points of
the presentation and help organize their thinking process, using a sequential
approach can facilitate the development of the student’s thought process. At
last, if students think that key points that come along with the presentation
could limit their understanding and ability to apply those key points, they may
modify the key points the instructor intended to present, through comments
and observations, due to the interactive nature of this application, the
knowledge is built in a shared way.
