Living in Smart Environments:
Interfaces, Interaction and
Usability
2. HCI in the Ambient Intelligence field
2
Ambient Intelligence (AmI)
vision of a future information society
in which people are empowered through a digital
environment
aware of their presence and context
sensitive, adaptive and responsive to their needs, habits, gestures
and emotions
must be Pervasive Pervasive
user-friendly computing communication
secure Intelligent
controllable User-friendly
almost invisible Interface

5. DOGeye
5
Multimodal eye-based
application
enable people with motor
disabilities to control and
manage their homes
User testing with
experienced as well not
experienced eye-tracker
users gives good results

6. “Energy efficient” behavior (I)
6
Design of an innovative user interface
to incentivize responsible and “green” energy consumption
behaviors in domestic environments
Development of a user survey, published on the Internet
presented the designed interface working in 2 different
modalities
collected information about user understanding, and opinions or
ideas on the proposed interaction paradigms
nearly 1000 replies were received and a lot of suggestions were
given to improve the presented interface

7
Development of an
Android app exploiting
the survey results as a
master thesis which I
supervised
