ong known as a leader in intercollegiate athletics, the Lone Star Conference (LSC) is an
innovative athletics conference that aims to provide a superior competitive experience
for member institutions and to allow for comprehensive development of student-athletes
through academic services and life skills programming. The LSC continues to build upon
its proud history while intending to be recognized as the premier NCAA Division II conference in
the nation.
The league’s mission is to foster student participation and success among member institutions
in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of each institution’s total educational
program. The LSC shall pursue student-athlete development with highest regard to the principles
of academic excellence, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, resourcefulness, community service,
gender equity, and diversity.
The mission of the Lone Star Conference is to foster student participation and success among
member institutions in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of each
institution’s total educational program. The LSC shall pursue student-athlete development
with highest regard to the principles of academic excellence, sportsmanship, ethical conduct,
resourcefulness, community service, gender equity, and diversity.
The LSC - founded on April 25, 1931 - has developed from a five-team conference of Texas-based
schools to a nine-member league that spans three states (Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico). The
league continues to assist its member institutions in the maintenance of intercollegiate athletic
programs that are compatible with the highest standards of education and competitive sports.
Throughout the league’s 84-year history, various institutions have competed under the LSC
banner. Today, only Texas A&M University-Commerce (then East Texas State) remains from the
originalgroupthatwasformedin1931whenNorthTexasState,SouthwestTexasState,SamHouston
State and Stephen F. Austin withdrew from the old Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
The membership alignment has changed over the years, with current members added from
1954 to 1995. Texas A&M-Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I) joined in 1954, and Angelo State in 1968.
Conference membership remained within the Texas borders until 1984 when Eastern New
Mexico was admitted. Since then, the LSC has included members from Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Cameron (1988, 1996) was added near the outset of an expansion phase, while Texas Woman’s
(1989) and previous members West Texas A&M (1986, 1993) and Tarleton State (1968, 1994)
joined the league soon after.
Midwestern State was admitted early in 1995, while Incarnate Word joined the league in 2010.
Harding reconnected with the league as an affiliate member in track and field from 2013-15, and
McMurry was an affiliate member in indoor and outdoor track and field, and football in 2014.
The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) and Western New Mexico (WNMU) will
become full conference members on July 1, 2016, and Oklahoma Panhandle State University
(OPSU) will become an affiliate member in football on that same date.
Past members of the LSC include Trinity, Houston, Lamar, Howard Payne, Sul Ross State,
McMurry, Harding, Ouachita Baptist, Central Oklahoma, East Central (Okla.), Northeastern State
(Okla.), Southeastern Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma, Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word.
While the LSC has maintained a long-standing tradition of competitive athletic programs
for its members, many teams and individuals have gone on to distinguish themselves on the
national stage. Entering 2015-16, LSC member institutions have collected 75 NCAA team national
championships since the league joined the Division II membership in 1982.
The LSC conducts conference championships in 16 sports (seven men and nine women).
Men’s championships include football, cross country, basketball, baseball, indoor track and field,
outdoor track and field and golf. Women’s titles are determined in volleyball, soccer, cross country,
basketball, softball, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, tennis and golf.
The conference office is located in Richardson, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas. Jay Poerner
serves as Commissioner, with assistance from Melanie Robotham (Media Relations).

ngelo State was picked as the favorite to win the Lone Star Conference
football title, according to the 2015 LSC preseason poll announced
in late July.
The league’s preseason poll reflects the opinions of LSC head coaches
and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from
throughout the region.
ASU, which captured the 2014 LSC Playoffs Championship, earned first
place votes on 17 of the 21 ballots to finish with 142 points. The Rams were
9-3 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II
Championship.
Defending LSC Champion Texas A&M-Commerce was picked second with
111 points and the remaining four first-place tallies on the heels of a 9-3
campaign last season.
Midwestern State ranked third with 89 points just ahead of Tarleton State
in fourth (85) and West Texas A&M fifth (82). Eastern New Mexico (57) and
Texas A&M-Kingsville (22) rounded out the poll.
The season kicks off September 3, and the LSC has seven teams set to
compete in 2015. After playing six conference games apiece over the first
nine weeks of an 11-week regular season, the league’s football teams will
split into two brackets to conduct a two-week conference playoff. The
conference champion and playoff seeding will be determined by regular
season results.
The top four teams (No. 4 at No. 1 and No. 3 at No. 2) comprise the
championship bracket with Week 10 winners playing for the playoff title in
Week 11, whereas Week 10 losers will meet for third place. The other half
of the bracket includes the remaining three teams and Oklahoma Panhandle
State with No. 5 at OPSU and No. 7 at No. 6 in Week 10. The 7-6 winner
plays at No. 5 for fifth-place in Week 11, while the 6-7 loser hosts OPSU.
Additionally, the Lone Star Football Festival comes back to AT&T Stadium
in Arlington, Texas for the fifth straight year in 2015 with three games on
Saturday, September 19. MSU faces ENMU, and TSU goes against WT in
LSC action, while ASU plays Bacone in a non-conference contest.
2015 Composite Schedule
The event starts at 11:30 a.m. with MSU-ENMU, followed by WT-TSU at
3:30 p.m., and ASU-Bacone at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the football-filled day.
A pair of LSC teams were included in postseason play last season, with
Angelo State advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs, and Texas A&M-
Commerce playing in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl.
LSC Football preseason honors announced
Angelo State’s Kyle Washington and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Toni Pulu
were named Lone Star Conference Football Preseason Players of the Year
for the 2015 season league officials announced in late July.
ASU’s Washington was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year for the second
straight year, while A&M-C’s Pulu claimed defensive recognition.

coachesandsportsinformationdirectors,plusvariousmediarepresentatives

quarterback in ASU history to throw for over 3,000 yards with 3,236 yards in
2014. He threw 34 passing touchdowns, which tied for fifth in NCAA Division
II last season, and rushed for nine more on the ground. Washington was
also fifth nationally in total offensive yard per game at 345.6. He completed

he Lone Star Football Festival comes back to AT&T Stadium in
Arlington, Texas for the fifth straight year in 2015 with three games
on Saturday, September 19.
The lineup includes two Lone Star Conference tilts and one non-
conference game. Midwestern State faces Eastern New Mexico, and
Tarleton State goes against West Texas A&M in LSC action, while Angelo
State plays Bacone in a non-conference contest.
The event starts at 11:30 a.m. with MSU-ENMU, followed by WT-TSU at
3:30 p.m., and ASU-Bacone at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the football-filled day.
“The Lone Star Football Festival has grown into one of the premier
events in all of NCAA Division II,” LSC Interim Commissioner Jay Poerner
said. “We are proud to provide LSC football student-athletes and fans this
opportunity for a fifth straight year.”
A single ticket will be good for admission to all three games at the
festival. The best place for fans to purchase tickets is in the athletic ticket
office of each participating team. Advance purchases through the teams
will be rewarded with rates of $25 for adults and $10 for students, while
sales through Ticketmaster and game-day pricing at the AT&T Stadium
ticket windows will be $30 for adults and $15 for students. Fans should
check with their respective schools for details.
The day begins with the 21st meeting between MSU and ENMU, with
the Mustangs holding a 15-5 series advantage including a 42-17 victory in
last year’s festival. MSU finished its 15th consecutive winning season in
2014 with a 6-4 mark, while they Greyhounds won its final three games
to record its second consecutive winning season at 7-4 overall.
The next game pits TSU and WT for the 25th time with the Buffs leading
the series 13-11. The Texans won last year’s meeting 31-27 in Canyon,
Texas. TSU finished 5-5 last season including a win in the LSC Playoffs
third-place game, while WT was 6-5.
The final game matches ASU and Bacone for the initial time. ASU had
its most successful season since 1997 by advancing to the second round
of the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2014. The Rams went 9-3 and won the
LSC Playoff Championship. Bacone, who competes in the NAIA Central
States Football League, was 3-8 last season.
The festival has attracted just over 99,000 fans for 20 games in its
first four years, making it one of the best-attended football events in all
of Division II. Sixteen of those 20 games have been televised, bringing
extensive exposure to LSC member institutions and their football teams.
The festival also has featured five NFL Draft picks and eight NCAA playoff
teams, including the 2012 Division II National Champion Valdosta State.
The LSC, founded in 1931, has a proud history as one of the nation’s
greatest small college football leagues. The conference made its mark in
the NAIA, especially from 1969 to 1979 when four LSC schools combined
to win 10 national titles in that 11-season span. The LSC became affiliated
with the NCAA in 1982 and now is annually well represented in the Division
II playoffs, with more than a dozen former players currently on NFL rosters.

LSC FOOTBALL STATISTICS/POSTSEASON RESULTS
A&M-Commerce wins Heart ofTexas Bowl
Texas A&M-Commerce’s record breaking season came to an
end just the way it started with a record-breaking win as the
Lions routed East Central 72-21 in the Heart of Texas Bowl led
by the bowl’s most valuable player, Tyrik Rollison, at Bulldawg
Stadium.
Rollison, the triggerman for the NCAA’s best scoring
offense, was brilliant completing 18 of his 33 passes for his 460 yards and four
TDs. Receivers Ricky Collins, Seth Smith and Vernon Johnson, made Rollison’s
night easy as the trio accounted for 416 yards on 16 catches.
Rollison connected with Johnson for a 61-yard pass on the Lions first possession
and first play from scrimmage setting the tone for the evening. The strike was
the duo’s second longest of the night and the offense’s third longest play from
scrimmage by the time the final horn sounded.
The Lions reeled off 21 unanswered points -- Deric Davis connected on two
short scores with one to Collins and one to John Thomas -- before the Tigers got
on the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter.
The Lions added two more scores before the half. The first came on a Seth
Smith screen pass that turned into a 79-yard score following some great down
field blocking and shifty running by the senior receiver. Smith finished with five
catches for 113 yards and the lone touchdown. Smith, who spent all four years
with the Lions, ended his career with 39 games played, 129 catches for 1,734 yards
and 16 TDs. The final score of the half was a Deric Davis three-yard run as the
Lions took a 44-13 lead into the intermission.
After a quiet start to the third quarter, A&M-Commerce exploded for 21 points
over the final seven minutes of the frame. Richard Cooper found pay dirt with a
10-yard run for the first score, and Rollison found Collins for a 58-yard score for
the second. Collins’ caught his second TD of the game and his 14th of the season
snapping the A&M-Commerce single-season receiving TD record previously set by
Johnson in 2013 with 14. Collins ended the game with a team-high seven catches
for 112 yards. Taylor’s 95-yard pick six was the final score of the quarter giving the
Lions a 65-13 lead.
East Central notched their final points of the ballgame ending an eight-play,
57-yard drive with Spencer bond one-yard run. The Tigers connected on the two-
point conversion to trim the margin down to 65-21, but the Lions weren’t done.
Theo Wofford answered for the Lions and scored the record setting 72nd points
of the game for the Lions with a seven-yard run giving the game the final score of
72-21.
A&M-Commerce reeled off 613 total yards aided by 480 yards through the
air. Rollison’s 460 yards gave him 3,763 yards for the season for a new A&M-
Commerce single-season record.
ECU finished with just 397 yards of offense highlighted by 306 yards passing.
The Lions allowed just 97 yards on the ground marking the second time this season
the defense has held a team under 100 rushing yards.
