● The most prominent artists of the Renaissance
was Aaron Douglas. Known for geometric
designs. Influenced by jazz music and folk

her studio which helped the careers of rising
artists that were nationally known.
● Lois Malou Jones has many paintings and
textile designs that influenced artists after her.

was known for his “dynamic cubism” style.
Lawrence is among the best known 20th century
African American painters. He was influenced
by the shapes of Harlem.
● Gwendolyn Knight was the wife of Jacob
Lawrence. She was helped by Jacob and
Agusta to improve her paintings. She took
painting seriously during her eighties.
