1. Habitats 3-2.3 Recall the characteristics of an organism’s habitat that allow the organism to survive there.
2. Essential Questions How will I recall the characteristics of a habitat? How will I compare and contrast habitats and the animals that live in them?
3. Before you begin Please obtain the following materials before you begin: Nonfiction Literature Computers or I-pod touch with internet access Paper Pencils
4. Day 1 Tell students they are going to form groups to research different habitats of the world. Each group will produce a report on its habitat including the following information: A physical description of the habitat Examples of the habitat (geographical locations) Examples of animals and plants that live in the habitat In addition, each group will be given a specific assignment that will require the group to show how the animals in the assigned habitat are adapted for life there.
5. Day 1 continued… Place the different habitats on the board. (Arctic Habitat, Desert Habitat, Freshwater Habitat, Ocean Habitat, and the Rainforests) Allow students to chose the habitat that they would like to research. Students will work in collaborative teams to research their habitats.
6. Day 2 - 7 Allow students class time to research a habitat, and then have them change habitats until they have researched them all.
7. Day 8-10 Allow student time to create a Glogster on the habitats and the organisms within them.
8. Finale Set up a schedule for group presentations and allow students the opportunity to share what they have learned.
