23. We are the most powerful force in the war. On August 6th, one bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, killing about seventy thousand civilians. Still the Japanese did not surrender. On August 9th, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki leading to the defeat of the Axis Powers.
24. All across the United States, Americans celebrated the end of the war. Many other nations were left in debt or crippled by the bombings and attacks. The countries were counting the costs of war. We came out of the war on top. Not only did we defeat the Axis powers, we unleashed the most powerful force on the planet.Â
