2. The nobles and the peasants The Nobles The Peasants In exchange for living on his land, the lord offered his peasants protection. The most important nobles lived with the king in the castle because the nobles were loyal to him.
3. The clothing The ladies always wore long dresses. In summer they sometimes wore a fine linen "under-gown" underneath a sleeveless gown. Lawyers, doctors, and teachers wore dark gowns right to the ground. Younger men preferred a knee-length tunic. The colors scarlet and purple were very popular.
4. The houses Land was very important to people, so most people lived in two or three storey houses which were called hovels.
