A Virtual Intertextual Tour across Ancient Entrepeneurship
AVITAE (A Virtual Intertextual Tour across Ancient Entrepreneurship) aims to blend the
study of the classical world with the analysis of examples of ancient entrepreneurship:
students are going to follow the footsteps of the first entrepreneurs, study the evolution of
entrepreneurship through time and finally apply what they have learnt in theory into their own
entrepreneurial ventures; Classical world, entrepreneurship, digitalization: this is the
ambitious trilogy AVITAE relies on.

During the summer we monitored the students work for the August issue articles and we
started researching for material for the entrepreneur video we had to present during the visit in
Cyprus. We exchanged views on how we could proceed on this with the Danish teachers. We
wrote the March- June report and we prepared the paperwork for the trip to Cyprus.
In September we started working on the video project. We shared ideas and decided the
course of action. We visited two factories and a lawyer’s office for the shootings
disseminating our project at the same time. We asked a professional’s help for the final
touches.
We contacted the local MP and let him know about our actions.
After the Cyprus trip we informed the school on the outcomes of the visit and we started
immediately forming our mini companies. We had constant meetings for sharing our ideas.
We focused on twinspace and encouraged new students to participate. We prepared the new
group for Italy and sent the students’ matching forms.
We wrote the articles for the November and January issues.
We made handicrafts for the R C bazaar accompanying them with a hand out describing our
projects and its aims. We participated there informing people about our actions.
We started keeping log books for our companies and filled in canvaniser.
We met with entrepreneurs for soliciting on our entrepreneurial course of action.
We were shown how to produce our vanilla sweet and we started setting up the actual
outcomes of our companies. We prepared the products, made out labels, advertisements,
posters and business cards. We found out what it is like to deal with handicaps and problems
and redesign a new course of action.
We visited the Town Hall to inform the people there on how the project is proceeding and ask
for a money loan as the budget so far allocated was spent. This was another entrepreneurial
move.
We organized an info day and a promotion presentation of the project to the new and older
students in school.

In the autumn 2016 a lot of time was spent on innovating and brainstorming on the video
project on a Danish entrepreneur, using techniques from the AVITAE innovation model,
developed earlier in the project as the picture below shows.
The students studied various Danish
entrepreneurs within the experience
economy and picked the one, which
they found was most interesting in line
with the values of the AVITAE-project,

the Danish licorice-entrepreneur, Johan Bülow, see more on https://lakrids.nu/
The students made contact with the company "Bulow" and gained a lot experience with
interview-techniques and the entrepreneurial processes, values, pains and gains of being an
entrepreneur in the business of experience economy and food industry.
Next the students learned a lot about making videos online, preparing materials, idea-
generation, innovation, storytelling and more.
A very exciting process was to give the video an international twist again in line with
AVITAE. A number of existing and former AVITAE-students were contacted and especially
the competences of the Slovak partner was exploited in producing the video, making it not
only a national product, but a pan-European collaboration.
The video-presentation of the Danish as well as the other countries’ contributions in Cyprus
were very inspiring, great fun and caused an a lot of communication among the students.

In January the three groups of mini-companies continued working on developing their ideas.
The three companies were:
1: Adventure Travel : an app to be used on- and offline
5. 5
2: I ChoiXX: A chip that can be used to direct commercials at the individual need
3: PEEP: a social media telling what's going on nearby you of events
On January 26 the AVITAE group together with another class at Ørestad Gymnasium met
with a new startup company "Statum" (http://www.statum.dk), that told ‘the real story’ about
what it is like to be a startup company, getting financial support, qualifying ideas, business
angels, finding the right team for the company, incubation, offices and a lot more.
In February: Visit to Lucca
Before the visit to Lucca only two of the three companies decided to continue, Adventure
Travel and I ChoiXX. The teams prepared to make a stall with posters and a booklet and a
presentation to give at the fair in Lucca.
The visit in Lucca was a huge experience, investigating the ancient entrepreneurship and
relations between art, trade, banking, science and power in renaissance society, especially the
role of the Medici-family.

These months have been very stressing, but at the end, we were prepared for Italy.
February
It was the time for our last mobility. Now students should
show what they have been learning through the last three years and
they were really excited, really all of us were.

We were received by the headmistress and afterwards we
had a very interesting team building activities with English Actors,
in Aula Magna.

We could visit two special cities: Florence and Pisa
We had time to prepare the stall for the Mini
Company Fair and then, at last, the long-awaited moment
arrived, The ERASMUS+ AVITAE MINICOMPANY
FAIR. All the countries showed their companies, explained
the process and aim of them. It was a very special moment
for all of us, teachers and students, because it was the final
activity of the whole project and it was a great success. We

September
Working on video project. Students in teams prepared 2 videos: a short film about the life of
an entrepreneur and a cartoon about the life of our famous entrepreneur Tomas Bata.
October
Trip to Cyprus. After coming back to school, we informed the school leadership about the
outcomes and started to think of mini-companies. We created 2 teams of students, each team
formed one minicompany.
November
8. 8
We went through the process of finding business idea and creating departments of the
company. Each minicompany created lean canvas – simple business plan of the company.
We consulted our companies with Junior Achievement.
December-February
Students gave feedback to other companies in Twinspace. They also wrote articles for the
newspaper and prepared their presentations for the minicompany Fair in Lucca. They set one
company focused on the production of candies with vitamins for the students, and another
one focused on tourism. After some discussions and doing the financial plan, they decided to
continue just with one company and make it real. The name of the company is BraMiTour
and it is a travel agency proposing sightseeing tours in Bratislava for the school trips. The
tours will be adventurous, children will explore the historical center in teams and they will
have to accomplish various activities and tasks.
March
We started to prepare the final reception devoted to our Erasmus+ project. We invited more
than 100 guests to be present in our celebration of AVITAE.
