The open canal that
carried water from Red
Hills to Kilpauk shaft
— and later to George
Town and Mylapore —
got polluted and caused
waterborne diseases.J.W
Madeley, the then Special
Engineer of the Chennai
Municipal Corporation
formulated the Treated
Water Supply System
to the Chennai City.He
came up with the idea of
using 14 slow sand filters.
These are still part of the
water treatment plant.
They have three layers
— the first has bricks;
the second, pebbles,
and the third, sand. “It
follows the principle that
bacteria eats bacteria.
Water produced through
this process is 99.9
% pure,” says a Metro
Water engineer.
The city got treated-
water supply for the first
time when the Kilpauk
Water Treatment Plant
was set up 101 years
ago. Conceived by J W
Madley, the 66-acre plant
still retains reminders
of the British era. And
even today, most of
the machinery are
considered engineering
marvel.Thanks to
Madely the Chennai
man got the first treated
water in 1914,and in
1927, Chennai received
chlorinated water for the
first time after Madley
introduced it. Mr. Madley
heard about the Chennai
Floods and came from
his abodeto see the plight
of the subway and the
streets named after him
in T.Nagar. He swimmed
and inspected the spots
which were filled with a
mixture of sewage and
water. Felt thatthe flood is
not due to rain but due to
the blunder of the rulers,
bureaucrats and their
technocrats.He just shed
tears and returned back
to his permanent resting
place., with the words “ I
gave treated fresh water
to Chennai, but I have to
drink sewerage water”

In this dark cloud we
see a heartening streak
-- of the uncompromis-
ing insistence of some
parents of the present
generation that they
will send their children
to learn the Vedas and
absorb the practice of
our religion as it should
be done. Yes! There are
young couples in their
twenties and thirties
who are refusing to get
their children pursue
education with the sole
purpose of livelihood,
and instead making
them join Veda Patha-
shala-s in their forma-
tive years.
These fathers and
mothers have realized
how crucial it is that we
do not break off com-
pletely from the
spiritual path.
And they have
taken posi-
tive, coura-
geous action
to show that
they care.
They have
c o n v i n c e d
their children,
who belong to the
current I-pad, 4-G gen-
eration, to join Veda
Pathashala-s and learn
our great scriptures.
And they have done this
tremendous job quietly,
with no fanfare, no me-
dia coverage.
These wonderful par-
ents deserve to be show-
cased to the rest of our
community through a
proper, well-publicized
function as soon as pos-
sible. They have to be
honored and commend-
ed publicly for what
they are doing.
Sunday, March 13 2016
is the function date to
be held in Chennai to
honour these wonderful
parents. Our Ananta-
koti namskarams to all
of them.
We are therefore
launching a search for
all such noble souls,
to get them together
at one pace on an ap-
pointed day and pres-
ent them to the world.
Their path-breaking
action will be high-
lighted, their ratio-
nale explained
to the agnos-
tics, and
their ini-
tiative as-
sured of whatever sup-
port we can give.
I am writing this to all
of you, my good friends
who have deep concern
for the practice of our
great Hinduism, for two
purposes: to give you a
heads-up and start you
thinking of how you
can help in making this
function a reality; and
to spread the word and
get many more persons
into this exercise.
The budjet for the pro-
posed grand function is
around 9 lakhs.
I see this not just as
showing reverence to
the men and women
who are doing this, but
as showing our obei-
sance to our Vedas and
to our religion.

A Path-Breaking Initiative-
March 13, 2016
TOUCHES give feel-
ings. We have different
kinds of feelings such as
happy, sad, angry, sur-
prised, shocked, afraid
and more. One feeling
we all enjoy, is HAPPY …
isn’t it? Just like adults,
children too experience
these various feelings.
For example, they may
feel happy when they get
to eat their favorite ice-
cream, get a hug from
parents, but feel sad
when their friends do
not include them in play
or when hit by a stronger
person. They may feel
angry if someone scold-
ed them for another’s
mistake or when pushed
away by a friend and so
on. Sometimes they also
experience confusion or
feel bad when touched
in a manner they do
not like. Some touches
make them feel uncom-
fortable. Most children
may just become quiet
and not share with any-
one. In the perspective of
future of such children,
there may be a stunted
emotional and/or physi-
cal growth.
Do children know what
to do when faced with a
confronting situation or
on experiencing a bad
touch?This question can
be addressed with giving
them an understanding
on good and bad touch-
es, safe adult and “my
safe zone” and finally
tips on what to do when
faced with a situation
which they do not like.
What are Good and Bad
Touch
Any touch that gives a
comfortable and happy
feeling is a good touch.
Any touch which is not
liked or makes onesad,
feel bad, guilty, scared or
confused is a bad touch.
When someone touches
on the regions marked
red, it is a bad touch un-
less it is to keep them
clean or healthy. For eg
:- Mother touching your
private parts (chest, but-
tocks and part between
your legs), while bathing
them is not a bad touch.
A doctor touching when
checking them in pres-
ence of parents is not a
Bad Touch.
If someone touches in
regions marked yellow
and you do not like it,
then it is a Bad Touch.
If someone touches in re-
gions marked green, it is
a safe and Good Touch.
Good Touch: Mom’s
hug, Shake of hands, a
friendly pat.
Bad Touch: Being asked
to show or touching
one’s private parts. Be-
ing asked to touch or see
another’s private parts,
Forcible kissing.
Who is a Safe Adult and
what is My Safe Zone
A safe adult is a person
a child will tell, when
they experience any bad
touch or feelings of con-
fusion. The safe adult
is a person who loves
them, cares for them
and someone they can
trust. This person will
listen to them and take
appropriate measures to
help them out.
My safe zone is the set
of safe adults that will
be identified by the child
and parents together
to help them speak to
someone in time of need.
Let all the identified safe
adults know about them
having been chosen as
one.
Tips on What to do
When someone touches
a child and they do not
like it, or they touch/
see the child’s private
body parts or ask the
child to touch/see their
private body parts or do
some action that con-
fuses a child, ask the
CHILD to :-
a) SHOUT
b) Say NO and run away.
c) Rush to a safe adult
and report. Keep report-
ing till they are heard.
d) Remember it is not
their fault. Never to keep
Secrets…
e) Always remember that
their body belongs to
them.
f) TELL a safe adult right
away even if they have
not expressed about an
earlier incident. Remem-
ber it isNever Too Late.
Have a Safe and Happy Childhood

Tips To Become A Powerful Human Being
Human beings are the
most fantabulous cre-
ation in this universe. As
per vedic literatures it is
said that, being born as a
human being is a victory
over 84 lakh creations.
Human beings are the
only creation ahead of all
other creations which is
exclusively blessed with
an ability of conscience.
Have you ever thought
about animals or birds
who may differ geneti-
cally but they all join
hands with their traits
and behaviour pattern.
Only human beings dif-
fer even in our traits and
behaviour pattern. Are
we cherishing this bless-
ing is a question mark
always and here are the
few tips to become a
powerful human.
n A powerful man
requires a power-
ful mind, a power-
ful mind requires a
strong subconscious
programming and
this programming is
done only by develop-
ing an inevitable faith
in our subconscious
beliefs.
n Training your sub-
conscious takes time
and eventually it pro-
duces unbelievable
results in your life.
It has to be trained
with passion. Where
there is passion,
interest goes, energy
flows and your result
shows.
n The very primary
thought of a human
being should be to-
wards growth which
will help you to touch
greater heights in
your life.
n You are the mas-
terpiece by birth,
because you cannot
see or find out even
a single replica of
yourself in this uni-
verse and that is the
beauty of this cre-
ation called “HUMAN
BEING”. Growing,
learning, becom-
ing and every abil-
ity which occupies
the space of present
tense are gifted only
to human beings.
n The more you honor
your commitments, a
strong belief system
is built within you
without your own
consciousness. This
reflects in a powerful
mind and the power-
ful mind is a proof
that you are a power-
ful human being.
n Everyday ask your-
self and identify what
you want from this
life and work on it
and strategize your
goals accordingly.
n Even if the whole
world is against
you, even if nobody
believes in you, take
it as a ladder for your
renunciation. Let the
world come to know
about you and it will
in front of your eyes.
n No pain and no gain.
More pain and more
gain. Experiencing
more pain with 100%
pleasure in it makes
you a powerful hu-
man being.
n Practice silence
on a daily basis.
Your mind becomes
more stable when
it is pushed in the
circumference of
silence. When you
dissolve in silence,
clarity is derived
automatically which
is mandatory for a
powerful output.
n Effort with effortless
mind makes a power-
ful mind. A powerful
mind will transform
you to a powerful hu-
man being.
Experience The Creator
In His Creation And Hit
Those Infinite Possibili-
ties With Your Humon-
gous Potential And
Powerful Mind… !!!
Loving you all,

As a safe adult, parents/
caregivers/people in
charge must remember
:-
1) The child is not at
fault.
2) Not to blame the child
or panic or overreact.
3) A child’s complaints
must not be ignored.
4) Professional help
should be sought when
necessary.
Let all children have a
safe and happy child-
hood and a confident
and secure future.
