   Self-directed learning (SDL) is any
  increase in knowledge, skill,
  accomplishment, or personal
  development that an individual selects
  and brings about his or her own efforts
  using any method in any circumstances
  at any time.

 Use Prezi to create an online presentation
  collaboratively.
 Search and sort relevant information,
  images and videos on the internet for their
  presentation.
 Give feedback on peers’ work
  constructively using Linoit on the blog.

 Preziis an online presentation tool which
  allows students to work on a common
  presentation project simultaneously even
  when they are not in physical proximity.

 Students  perform independent research
  on different areas and use Prezi to share
  their expert knowledge while picking up
  information from their peers’ research
  findings.
 In doing so, students are able to provide
  immediate feedback to their peers or
  carry out real-time discussions using Linoit.

 Teachers    of other disciplines can also use
  this tool to similarly encourage
  collaborative and self-directed learning
  amongst their students.
 Monitoring of student progress is also
  made simple by embedding the Prezi
  presentations on a blog space!

  and Linoit to be embedded so that
  students can give feedback to their
  peers’ works using the virtual gallery work.

  link to teacher

 presentation tool Prezi
 Examples of youtube videos which
 students can include in their presentation.
Effective Learning

How do we monitor the effectiveness of
learning?

 Virtual“Gallery Walk” on blog.
 The Prezi is embedded together with Linoit
  on the blog and the students can post
  their comments on the 2-day itinerary
  using Linoit.
 Teacher has overview of all presentations
  on the blog and can intervene if groups
  are not on task.
Impact – Did your students learn better?
 As the students did the gallery work – the
  students share their knowledge of the
  various tourist attractions in Singapore.
 Learning is extended beyond the classroom
  as they explore other attractions which
  they are not familiar with prior to the lessons
 The lesson can be extended to
  presentation of other issues e.g inquiry into
  why people still stay in areas threatened by
  volcanic eruptions such as Mt Merapi.

software download.
Registration




You can create Prezi from any computer online.
You can also download finished Prezi and present
offline.
Creating new Prezi




Create a new presentation by clicking on new
Prezi under Your Prezis.

You might want to use the templates which
 appear at startup.
Title




Double click on the title and you can type in the
title as well as changing the font and colour.
Text




Double click on any text box and you can
change the text
Editing




Double click on any of the shape to insert
text, pictures or videos from Youtube.
Theme




Click on the theme to change the theme for your
presentation.
Path




Click on path to change the path or add to
the path ( the order of your presentation.
Frame




You can also click on frame to add a
circle or rectangle frame.
Insert




You can insert file, chart, videos from Youtube,
pdf file or pictures by clicking on insert.
Collaboration




Share the presentation with group members so
that they can also edit it collaboratively by clicking
on meeting and invite to edit.

  • 1. Use of Prezi, Blog and Linoit for Collaborative Learning in Geographical Inquiry
  • 2. Planning for a lesson using the 4 square Reflection  Which ICT Tools should I use?  What are the thinking skills which I would like to develop in the students?  What is the most effective instructional approach?  Is the learning experience authentic?
  • 4. Self-directed learning What are the areas where SDL/CoL take place? Self-directed learning Self-directed learning (SDL) is any increase in knowledge, skill, accomplishment, or personal development that an individual selects and brings about his or her own efforts using any method in any circumstances at any time. - Gibbons, 2002

Self-directed learning  Identify learning tasks to achieve learning goal set  To reflect on their own learning and use feedback to improve their schoolwork  To learn beyond the curriculum  To apply learning in new context

Objectives Objectives of my ICT lesson on Tourism Students will be able to  plan a 2-day itinerary highlighting tourist attractions in Singapore.  make use of Prezi to create an online presentation collaboratively.  give feedback to their peer’s work using Linoit for collaborative learning. How would this be carried out if ICT is not used? ICT value added!

Learning activities What learning activities will the students go through?  Use Prezi to create an online presentation collaboratively.  Search and sort relevant information, images and videos on the internet for their presentation.  Give feedback on peers’ work constructively using Linoit on the blog.
  • 14. ICT Tools Value-add of ICT Tools  Preziis an online presentation tool which allows students to work on a common presentation project simultaneously even when they are not in physical proximity.
  • 15. ICT Tools Value-add of ICT Tools  Students perform independent research on different areas and use Prezi to share their expert knowledge while picking up information from their peers’ research findings.  In doing so, students are able to provide immediate feedback to their peers or carry out real-time discussions using Linoit.
  • 16. ICT Tools Value-add of ICT Tools  Teachers of other disciplines can also use this tool to similarly encourage collaborative and self-directed learning amongst their students.  Monitoring of student progress is also made simple by embedding the Prezi presentations on a blog space!
  • 17. Preparation for ICT Lesson  Blog created for the Prezi presentation and Linoit to be embedded so that students can give feedback to their peers’ works using the virtual gallery work.  Grouping of students  Registration of accounts for Prezi  Leader to create account and send the link to teacher
  • 18. Scaffolding  Students are taught how to use online presentation tool Prezi  Examples of youtube videos which students can include in their presentation.
  • 19. Effective Learning How do we monitor the effectiveness of learning?  Virtual“Gallery Walk” on blog.  The Prezi is embedded together with Linoit on the blog and the students can post their comments on the 2-day itinerary using Linoit.  Teacher has overview of all presentations on the blog and can intervene if groups are not on task.
  • 20. Impact – Did your students learn better?  As the students did the gallery work – the students share their knowledge of the various tourist attractions in Singapore.  Learning is extended beyond the classroom as they explore other attractions which they are not familiar with prior to the lessons  The lesson can be extended to presentation of other issues e.g inquiry into why people still stay in areas threatened by volcanic eruptions such as Mt Merapi.
  • 21. Prezi Introducing Prezi is free with100MB online storage and does not require software download.
  • 22. Registration You can create Prezi from any computer online. You can also download finished Prezi and present offline.
  • 23. Creating new Prezi Create a new presentation by clicking on new Prezi under Your Prezis.
  • 24. Template You might want to use the templates which appear at startup.
  • 25. Title Double click on the title and you can type in the title as well as changing the font and colour.
  • 26. Text Double click on any text box and you can change the text
  • 27. Editing Double click on any of the shape to insert text, pictures or videos from Youtube.
  • 28. Theme Click on the theme to change the theme for your presentation.
  • 29. Path Click on path to change the path or add to the path ( the order of your presentation.
  • 30. Frame You can also click on frame to add a circle or rectangle frame.
  • 31. Insert You can insert file, chart, videos from Youtube, pdf file or pictures by clicking on insert.
  • 32. Collaboration Share the presentation with group members so that they can also edit it collaboratively by clicking on meeting and invite to edit.
  • 33. Collaboration To work on the presentation collaboratively, copy the link and send it to your group members.
  • 34. Collaboration The group member will be directed to this page when they click on the link
  • 35. Collaboration You can edit your presentation or download the presentation by clicking on the Prezi created.
