changes since Michael Schuster bought it in 1988. The home has been extensively
renovated through a series of projects over the years, and is now roughly double
the size it was when he bought it.
But two things that haven't changed are the Anawan Cliffs community and the
superb ocean views.
Anawan Cliffs is a gated community with 56 home sites, private access to two
beaches, and its own cliff walk. The house on North Cliff Drive is designed so that
almost every room has a water view, and there are plenty of decks and porches
where you can take it all in.
"It's so peaceful and quiet and serene," said Michael Schuster's wife, Terry. "It's an
ideal neighborhood to live in, whether you have kids or not."
The house has views across Narragansett Bay to Beavertail Lighthouse on
Jamestown and the Jamestown Bridge. The Schusters said it's great for family
gatherings or entertaining friends. Even if you have lots of friends.
The main entry is through double white doors, with a large window above them,
opening to a soaring foyer with marble floors and a contemporary light fixture
hanging overhead.
To the left is a dining room with white marble floors, deep blue walls, big windows
facing the water, and sliding doors to an exterior deck. Set into one wall is a glass
case, almost like another window, that's perfect for displaying china, glassware or

The kitchen, and adjacent breakfast nook, have blue/grey tile floors and white
walls, with white cabinets and granite tops for the counters and central island.
The breakfast nook has angled walls with lots of windows and a white sideboard
with granite top.
The kitchen comes with stainless steel appliances and sink, double ovens, gas cook
top, and Bosch dishwasher. From the kitchen, there's easy access to a laundry
room, large walk-in pantry and screened porch.
On the other side of the entry foyer is a sunny living room with lots of windows
and doors to the covered front porch. Surrounding the living room are three
carpeted bedrooms and a full bath.
The second floor is even more impressive than the first. At the top of the stairs is a
family room with wood floor, cream-colored walls, gas-burning fireplace and
sliding glass doors to a large screened porch that's a perfect spot to enjoy the ocean
vistas.
At the opposite end of the family room is a second full kitchen with skylight, wine
refrigerator, granite counters and more stainless steel appliances. (This was the
original kitchen for the house.)
The carpeted master bedroom has multiple windows, lots of closets — including
two walk-ins — and its own sliding doors to the screened porch. The master bath
features double sinks set in a granite-topped vanity, shower and whirlpool tub.
A catwalk leads from this section of the house across the entry foyer, with a nice
view out the big window over the doors, and into a media room, with deep blue
carpet, vaulted ceiling, skylights and a door to another exterior porch. Michael
Schuster, a music fan, said this is his favorite room in the house.
From the media room, a large entry provides access to an enormous home office,
also with skylights, vaulted ceiling and deep blue carpet. The office has track
lighting, built-in shelves and desk, and a pull-down screen, with room left over for
a conference table.
This part of the house is adaptable for a number of uses. It could be a studio, rec
room, exercise area or even an additional master suite, since a small file room
(with a cedar closet) was designed to be easily converted into a bathroom.
For those who want that secret hideaway, a set of stairs from the office leads to a
small crow's-nest office above it all.
The property includes a large garden, storage shed and attached three-car garage.
The house at 85 North Cliff Drive is for sale at $1,895,000. It has 4,779 square
