Our group created a travel brochure about Dong Van in northern Vietnam. It includes descriptions of historic and natural landmarks like the H'Mong Palace and Dong Van Ancient Town. It also discusses the unique cultures and customs of ethnic groups in the area. The brochure faced challenges during creation, such as coordinating schedules, finding high quality photos, and designing an effective layout. However, the group worked to overcome these obstacles and hopes the final product will help promote Dong Van as a tourism destination.

1. Description of Our Team.
Our group named Bach Duong under the direct guidance of lecture Mr Phung
Huy. Dong Van travel is our project . Our group includes five members. The first
member is Hoang Thi Hong who is a beautiful girl. She writes about H’Mong
Palace with its ancient and unique architect. She also brings to us some interesting
information about Dried Buffalo. The second member is Pham Thi Thuy Linh
who is a so gentle girl . She writes about some delicious drinks (Thanh Van
alcohol and mint honey) and she will help us to have good information about
H’Mong Place. She and Hong writes about “Gau Tao” festival and unique cultures
of H’Mong and Lolo people.The third member is Ma Thi Lien. She is an
intelligent girl who helps us to know some so useful information about Lung Cu
Flag Tower and Dried Beef. The next member is Tran Thi Linh-a hard working
girl. She introduces to us two famous places in Dong Van Rocky Plateau: Quan Ba
Heaven Gate and Quan Ba Twin Peaks. She and Lien will help us have brief look
at Dong van District and Dong Van Rocky Plateau. Besides, Linh leads us to
“Khen Dance” Festival and provides to us some useful and detail information
about hotels and restaurants in Dong Van District for relaxing or eating after every
sightseeing. The final member is Vu Thi Phuong. She is also nice girl. She will
guides us to Dong Van Ancient Town with its ancient beauty and delicacies such as
2. “Au Tau” porridge, “Thang Co”. Another thing she writes is about beauty people
with their traditional clothes but beautiful.
Although we don’t have much times for meeting frequently, we did try to do
everything well. We work together like a family. Therefore, we hope that this
brochure will provide you interesting and useful information.
2. Summary of our project
The purpose of “Dong Van Travel” brochure is to introduce to everyone a
wonderful destination in the northern Vietnam. This area has many wonderful
places both in history and in beauty such as: H’Mong palace, Dong Van ancient
town, Lung Cu flag tower,…Besides, there are some unique cultures of the special
ethnic groups living there. And one of the most attracting thing is food such as:
“Thang Co”, “Au Tau” porridge, corn wine,….Finally, this brochure supports
some famous hotels & restaurants in Dong Van town where tourists can choose to
relax and eat.
3. Problems We Had To Overcome
In starting, we chose team-mate and made friends. Each member has different
character, different idea so we had some arguments. The atmosphere becomes
stressful.
Schedule of each person is not similar, so we only work on weekend.
Sometimes, we do not have time to meet. We often use a social network – face
book or Skype to meet and discuss. By that way, we can save a lot of time to other
jobs.
In this semester, there are many difficult subjects. We also spend a lot of time on
these subjects. Therefore, we feel pressure.
During working process, we had the trouble to choose the destination. We
decided to talk about Dong Van. Because Dong Van is quite far, we could not go
to there to take the real photos and get information. we had to search all
information on internet. There were the various information from the different
websites. We didn’t identify what we need to do and what the product is. A lot of
3. information is not suitable so we must find again and made new content. Designing
a brochure is the most difficult. It is required to have beautiful pictures with high
quality. We had to refer many models to find out own distinction. Besides, almost
information is in Vietnamese so that we had to spend lots of time to translate into
English. The next problem is that there are many kinds of font. We did not know
what kind of font we should use. And we chose many times as well as tried
changing a lot of fonts, but all of them were not scientific and not suitable with the
brochure. However, at the lucky time, we found a kind of font in the book which
we did not know its name. It looks like the most suitable for us to use. Then,
teacher helped us find out its name . Besides, he showed us how to design the good
brochure with 4 principles: contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. If we did
not know this, we would not make a good brochure like we have now.
Moreover, in the process of writing, we got many mistakes both in grammar and
in content. After reviewing many times, some mistakes were edited, but some ones
had not been identified until teacher helped.
Organizing the brochure is the most difficult for us. This is the first time we
designed a brochure. We had not ever made anything like a brochure before, and
we did not know what to make impressively. To help us be easy to imagine what a
brochure looks like, our teacher introduces some websites to create a brochure,
some websites which have magazines, posters,…even real samples. After
consulting all things above, we created the first draft which is qualified to have 4
principles, looks quite good. Of course, the first draft always has some mistakes
and they are only found out when we read carefully. After that, we reread more
than 5 times to edit writings, pictures, size of font and color, even re-choose
pictures. We did all things to make a perfect brochure.
We continued to get trouble with printing. The first thing is that we did not
know which store can print well. We did ask teacher and he gave us some places
where we can choose to print. We also asked some friends too. However, when we
bring version on word to print we discovered that we could not print it as we
wanted. Then we took a meeting to solve this problem. Fortunately, Lien was
quick to find out the way and helped us get out this trouble.
About technical barriers, we have to say that some of us use computer not very
well, so that in the process of editing as well as organizing pictures and writings
there are some problems. Firstly, we were confused to use either word 2007 or
PowerPoint 2007. When teacher gave us some samples and introduced that they
4. were designed on word, we decided to use word 2007 as the major software.
However, we still used PowerPoint 2007 to design the cover. Secondly, while we
were arranging writings, there were some errors happened. Sometimes writings
were missed some words, even some sentences. After examining, we solved this
problem by drawing the textbox larger and using the ruler to align suitably.
Thirdly, when editing pictures, they is often missed strangely. We did not know
the reason. We turned back the step before to retake them. Then, we found out that
with different types of their format they will appear or disappear when moving
them or when having the other overlaps them.
5. What has been the impact of our project on your community?
Our brochure will introduce to everyone about landscapes in Dong Van. With
this brochure, people is learning about Dong Van, about famous places in Dong
Van. It can help Dong Van become a place attracting more tourists and bring
income to people living there. Moreover, this project also makes people be high
aware of protect the ancient architecture as well as unique cultures. People will
concern to preserve, develop the longstanding values through many generations in
Dong Van as well as in Ha Giang.
6. What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your
project?
For creating the brochure, we used laptops with some software: word 2007,
word 2010, PowerPoint, paint. Mostly, we used word software. We used a lot of
magazines, posters, brochures to identify the most suitable form for our brochure.
7.Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises
This project has completed. And we have collected many useful things. Firstly,
we can understand more about member of our group. We know how to teamwork
effectively .Teamwork is one of the most interesting parts in this project. Thanks to
working in teams, we can improve the ability to communicate, speaking
5. knowledgeably, listening actively with an open mind, making decisions with
objectivity and discipline, ability to support other team members' ideas,
contributing a special outline.
Secondly, after this course, we have improved many skills such as: 4 basic skills
in studying foreign language (listening, speaking, reading and writing), presenting
skill, and the way of collecting information. Besides, one of the most important
skills to make a brochure is designing skill which makes your brochure more
interesting.
Thirdly, we notice that making an outline as well as action plan for our project is
very important thing. It helps us have clearly responsibilities for each member.
After separating well, we have to draw up a detail plan for each week. It makes us
be easy to control works and responsible in working. After writing each part, we
can send to other members to edit mistakes. Then, we will make a complete
writing.
Fourthly, through this course, we found some methods to design a good
brochure. In particular, it must be a own creativeness. Purpose of our brochure is to
bring information about some regions for readers and tourists. Any way, it requires
us have to examine, read carefully. Information has to be exact; content has to be
full; arrangement has to be scientific; font has to be suitable about type, color, size;
pictures have to exemplify to content, have high quality. About organization, it is
necessary to follow 4 principles of making brochures. When you read a brochure
you often see the design is attractive or not. If you makes a good arrangement, your
product will attract readers.
Fifthly, because of using word very much and solving the problems we got when
making brochure, we use word software better than before. The more we use, the
more we know.
Finally, we discovered many interesting things of Dong van town, Ha Giang
province such as famous food, unique customs of ethnic groups, beauty-spots…it
also means that our vocabulary are improved very much in these aspects. Matter
any way, Dong Van is a wonderful destination for people loving traveling and
exploring nature.
