poles. For instance, the number of breeding pairs of Adelie penguins on Antarctica have dropped
from 32,000 to 11,000 in 30 years. Another animal being affected by global warming is polar
bears. As sea ice melts, two thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050. It is also expected that
global warming will also cause the population of seals, polar bears prey, to decline. This polar bears
will go hungry for longer periods of time, resulting in cannibalism. Additionally, as temperatures
increase around the world, there is an increase in extreme weather events. Storms are able to absorb
energy from the water temperature causing hurricanes and typhoons.
