2. SaltMech IX
The 9th Conference on the Mechanical Behavior of Salt (SaltMech IX) will take place from
September 12 – 14, 2018 at the BGR in Hannover, Germany. It will be organized jointly by the
Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) Hannover, the Institute of
Geomechanics (IfG) Leipzig and the Technical University of Clausthal (TUC).
Launched in 1981, the SaltMech Conferences serve to exchange research findings and practical
experiences regarding the mechanical behavior of rock salt for the safe use in mining, storage
and waste disposal.
The conference has been held in:
1981 – Penn State University, USA
1984 – Hannover, Germany
