I am in China as a guest of the Chinese government May 20- June 2 lecturing to students and faculty at 3 universities. This is what I will be sharing- how I taught then and now.

- 1. By baby sitting my 3 year old niece for only 6 exhausting hours so Mom and Dad could go to a movie on Saturday afternoon 在陪伴 3 岁小侄女精疲力尽的 6 小时中感悟到的 同时仅仅是为了让她的父母可以在周六下午放松看场电影 关于学习的一些感悟
- 2. 只有 24000 人的小城市 主要用人单位是 Fort Hays State University （富 特海斯州立大学）和当地医院 由于小班教学模式，一般来说我的课堂里只有 9- 14 人，他们多数都不是来自大城市。有的学生 家乡人口还不到 1000 人，甚至少于 300 人！ 我的好多学生都会打猎，还有的会骑马或开拖拉 机 / 农场耕作机 基本上所有的学生都有兼职工作
- 3. Rural town of about 24,000. Main employers are Fort Hays State University and the regional medial hospital. My typical class has 9-14 students, most are from rural communities. Many come from towns of less that 1000, or less than 300!! Many of my students, male and female, hunt. Many ride horses and drive tractors. Almost all FHSU students work part time.
- 4. Kansas is flat, hot in the summer (100+) and snow in the winter. The wind is ALWAYS blowing. Kansas is developing wind powered energy on wind farms. 堪萨斯州地形平坦，夏天很热（ 32° 以上）以及冬天有大雪。这里永远在刮 风…因此堪萨斯州有很多的风力发电站

- 11. My wife is Yaprak. 我的妻子叫 Yaprak. We met in Turkey when I worked there and married in 1990. Yaprak means “leaf” in Turkish. - 15. We played three games on my iPad, beginning with Angry Birds. Then I realized I had an app on my iPhone to read Dr. Seuss. So out came the iPhone for a read with the Dr Seuss- auto play, read to Me and read it myself. My niece intuitively knew how to flip the pages with the swipe of her finger. She asked me a question only when she got stuck.
- 16. We went outside and learned not to pull flowers off the plants. A bit of hands on learning and experimentation and making mistakes. 我们在户外玩了一会儿，她学会 了不要摘花。当然了，我们花了 点功夫去学习和体验新的知识， 也难免在过程中犯错。
- 17. Then we went fishing with our poles. Hers is seen in the photo. We learned about frogs, that they like to sit on the pads and then we experienced mosquitoes and retreated indoors. 后来我们还去钓鱼，至于她的 “鱼竿”，你看图片就知道了。我 们了解了青蛙，发现它们很爱蹲 坐在荷叶上。之后由于被蚊子叮 ，便赶紧撤回到室内了。
- 18. I turned on the TV and we watched about 5 minutes of the Disney movie Cats and Dogs before she became bored. 我把电视打开，我俩一起看了 迪士尼的电影《猫狗大战》， 不过小侄女看了五分钟就觉得 无聊了。
- 19. So we then played with some “real” cats. She found the toys and had fun for about 10 minutes. 因此我们开始和地上的“猫”玩 了起来。她找了一些玩具，但 也只玩了 10 分钟而已。
- 21. Continuing the imaginative creativity theme, the “rabbit people” came alive for hours of conversational fun. At the beginning of the fun, both rabbits had two ears. She went to the market to buy some carrots, we discussed hopping vs walking, and then they got very tired and….
- 22. So she built a rabbit house and a bed with our 100 plus year old Turkish embroidery so they could sleep. 小侄女为兔子人偶搭了一 个兔子屋和床，只不过她 的建筑材料是我们具有 100 多年历史的土耳其传 统刺绣，她觉得这样兔子 人才能安心睡觉。
- 24. With the rabbit people sleeping she decided we had to be silent and so we went outside to let them sleep. Here is where we played sidewalk art together for over an hour. Pictured here is fairy dust, a butterfly, an airplane, flowers and kite flying on the beach. And we designed new colored rocks and drew on the trees. She asked about the butterflies she had seen a month ago.
- 25. And now for a serious reflection on university student learning at Forth Hays State University 现在切入正题讨论我就 FHSU 大学生们学习 情况的一些感悟 What can we note about adult learning from my 6 hour exhausting babysitting role? 我们到底能从我那 6 小时陪伴小侄女的经历中可以感悟到 什么东西呢？

- 31. Now- Twitter 现在 – Twitter ( 类似“微博” ) My twitter feed is called NextGenBizComm, short for Next Generation Business Communication 我的 Twitter 用户名 是“ NextGenBizComm” ，是“新 一代商务沟通”的英文简写
- 32. Now- Twitter I tweet links to podcasts I made for my courses. Students listen to them before class so they are ready to begin the latest group activities during class time. I do not lecture very often in class. 由于我上课不是照本宣科地讲课， 因此在 Twitter 上我都会把上课的相 关资料的链接放上去，这样学生上 课前就可以提前准备，到课堂以后 我们会就这些资料进行热烈的讨论 。

- 35. Now- Microblog/Weibo 现在 – 新浪微博的运用 FHSU on microblog (like Twitter), the most influential social media in China 富特海斯州立大学微 博 ( 中国版的 Twitter) ，微博已成 为中国最具影响力的 社交网络
- 36. Now- Presentations before the class 现在 – 课堂小组展示时的情况 While their colleagues were presenting, these guys were on FaceBook and texting! 图片中，别的学生正在进行小组展 示时，这些学生正在用电脑浏览 FaceBook ( 类似“人人网” ) 和用手机 发短信

Now- Twitter and Google Drive spreadsheets Using Google Drive, I ask all the classes to go up and fill in a spreadsheet their name, class, the twitter link I sent out and then tell everyone what they learned from the article. 谷歌的文档功能（ Google Drive ）类似“百度文库”，我要求我的所有学生都在谷歌文 档里自行输入他们的名字、课程编码、我布置任务的 Twitter 链接、以及与其他同学 分享他们从文章中所学到的东西

Chapter 11 was about program evaluation. This is a teacher education course on curriculum development 我有一个免费的播客，用户名是 NextGen Learning. 我知道我的 BUED 课程里 9 个学生中有 3 个听 了这段 6.47 分钟的音频。该课程讲 授的是教师如何教学。
- 41. Now- Audio Podcasts I myself follow 42 other podcasting channels for fun. 15 students are following me. - 43. Possible questions to consider 潜在的问题 Students today are very techie. Many grow up with a tablet or smart phone- how will that impact society? For the better or for the worse? 现在的学生离不开电子科技。许多 成年人如果也智能型手机不离手的 话，会怎样影响这个社会呢？是好 ，还是坏？ Me, in Bangkok, 1980s. What about the age gap in use of technology?
