4. There are only two contractions in Spanish
If the noun that follows “a” is feminine, leave it alone.
a la piscina
If the noun that follows “de” is feminine, leave it alone.

5. *Yo acabo del banco. (de + el)
I just came from the bank.
Yo compro un leche del supermercado. (de + el)
I buy milk from the grocery store.
Yo necesito la medicina de la farmacia. (leave it)
I need medicine from the pharmacy.
*Acabar de means “to have just done something”

9. Don’t Forget The Verb Tener – To Have
You have learned many phrases that use the
verb tener…
• Tener años (to tell someone’s age)
• Tener prisa (to be in a hurry)
• Tener hambre (to be hungry)
• Tener sed (to be thirsty)
• Tener calor (to be hot)
• Tener frío (to be cold)
• Tener que (to have to do something)
• Tener razon (to be right)
• Tener cuidado (to be careful)
• Tener ganas (to feel like doing something)
Los niños tienen cuidado al museo.
La mujer no tiene ganas ir a la piscina.
Yo no tengo prisa visitar la monumenta.

Present Progressive
Estar + verb / ending = Present Progressive
Verbs that end in “ar” will add “ando.” Estoy caminando. (caminar)
Estamos estudiando. (estudiar)
Están manejando. (manejar)
Verbs that end in “er” or “ir” will add “iendo.” Estoy comiendo. (comer)
Está saliendo. (salir)
Estás subiendo. (subir)

14. As always, there are some verbs that are irregular in the present progressive.
Write these down because you will see them again!
Ir – yendo We are going to the mall. Estamos yendo al centro commercial.
Leer – leyendo They are reading a book. Están leyendo un libro.
Traer – trayendo She is bringing her sister. Está trayendo su hermana.
Pedir – pidiendo I am asking my mother. Estoy pidiendo a mi madre.
Servir – sirviendo He is serving dinner. Él está sirviendo la cena.
Dormir – durmiendo I am sleeping. Estoy durmiendo.
Decir – diciendo We are saying goodbye. Estamos diciendo adios.
