2. CURRENT PROJECTS
Partnership brokering and stakeholder engagement for the QUT Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship
Research initiative on Indigenous led enterprise and economic development research project
Public art and placemaking projects at South Bank and North Lakes enhancing the user experience of
infrastructure and place through public art and other interventions
Participation design and community engagement for the Long Time, No See? Project, a federally funded hybrid
broadband arts and creative industries research project presented as part of international and interdisciplinary
cultural events in Sydney and the Sunshine Coast. For this project, we designed a dialogue-based approach to
sensemaking and exploring complex issues.
Project management and creative enterprise mentoring for the Emerge Project with Moreton Bay Regional
Council as part of the redevelopment of the Youth Space at North Lakes.
Research and fieldwork for the QUT School of Design research project on Place Identities, and a federally funded
project researching place and public art in an expanded and interdisciplinary field of planning, design,
community and placemaking, with presentation at the SCAPE Public Art Biennial, Christchurch later this year
Creative and project development as part of our Enabling Suburbs initiative, for an international project
exploring public art in the context of deindustrialisation and community resilience as well as a walkshop for a
local public art initiative.
RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS
Cultural Planning for the Torres Strait Regional Authority to identify local priorities for cultural, community and
economic development for Erub Island, as well as other cultural plans and public art masterplans for local
authorities and development projects
Strategic Planning for Blackall Tambo Regional Council to enhance community wellbeing and social sustainability
in a regional community
Visitor Experience Study for Blackall Tambo Regional Council as one of several cultural and heritage tourism and
destination management initiatives in the region
Community, cultural and tourism infrastructure engagement and feasibility studies for metropolitan and
regional communities
‘Creative placemaking’ workshops with the World Health Organisation’s Healthy Cities Program for a group of
healthcare providers and policy makers from the Asia Pacific region and BCC’s Visible Ink for a group of young
leaders engaged in placemaking.
Development of RDA Brisbane’s first Regional Roadmap and consequent involvement in planning and
governance including facilitation of a goal setting workshop and establishing the strategic framework for
ongoing planning
Social Research, Social Impact Assessment, Stakeholder Engagement and Research for major studies for
resources and urban development projects
Writing commissions and research for a range of publications and cultural initiatives
TEAM
JM John Armstrong works strategically across community, urban, organisational and cultural contexts. He has
specialist knowledge in Indigenous enterprise and economic development, social innovation and enterprise, public
art and placemaking, and cultural development and planning.
Linda Carroli is an urban planner and communicator with expertise in regional development, communications,
social planning, and community and stakeholder engagement. She is IAP2 accredited and has worked on major
planning and place projects including the River City Blueprint, regional planning and cultural initiatives.
