Presentation that Miguel Estrada, Joe Russo, and myself gave at IBM World of Watson on Oct 2016. The idea was to talk about the IBM Watson Work Services platform and how this could be used to build apps that understand conversations in context.

AI/Cognitive is fairly well known and we can probably say that expectations are high (expecting cognitive to solve for data challenges, provide competitive advantage, support digital transformation, etc.)
AI/Cognitive is fairly well known and we can probably say that expectations are high (expecting cognitive to solve for data challenges, provide competitive advantage, support digital transformation, etc.)
We’re building an open, connected platform that provides the foundation for your organization to innovate and surpass the competition.
The platform will be built to capture and share not just the documents we work on but also the way we work together: who is important to us or our team, and who are the real influencers in a network. That platform will infuse personal assistance into practically every interaction: start your day with intelligent triage of messages, notifications and conversations that sense your context and filter to your needs. That platform will offer expert advice at the right time and from unexpected sources: results from a medical journal, a new virtual reality game your competitor just announced, the implications of an updated tax regulation. That platform will encourage people to build on it with intuitive, intelligent workplace apps that connect to one another so that we can look at work as a whole, not just in siloes, for example, a team app that senses an upcoming team meeting, alerts that predicted weather could affect travel plans and provides alternate routes.
With IBM Watson, IBM is uniquely positioned to help you build an organization that understands, reasons, and learns from not just your data, but from hundreds of Watson ecosystem partners developing expertise in thousands of domains.
Developer Experience Learning about the Platform (overview of site) Experiencing the Platform (send message guide less than 2 min) (transparently registers app, create workspace using logged in user identity) (user enters message and press button to send) (verify message is there?) Repeat, but creating simple app to call action identification on external content and post result to team conversation (get from github?) (register app using UI) (Use Toscana App and add app to existing team) (In separate window run the app and see team updated)

Kenexa has conducted literally thousands of employee engagement studies and still we would be hard pressed to find a single one where communication wasn’t a high priority driver of engagement. Not only is communication important in and of itself, but it is also the first step in creating the sense of involvement and belonging that leads to engagement. Ineffective communication can be the source of so many problems. Effective communication can be one of the most important avenues for building strong commitment and engagement in the workplace.
How do we measure Communication?
The following items are important measures of Communication and key drivers of employee engagement:
There is open and honest, two-way communication at this company.
My ideas and suggestions count.
Other good options include:
My manager listens to me.
I receive the information and communication I need to do my job effectively.
I am kept informed about the important activities of this company.
I receive timely feedback about my performance.
