1. Machiavelli's Ideas
More than anything else we've read this year, Machiavelli is extremely difficult for me to respond
to. I find myself agreeing with a lot of his ideas (at least I think I agree with his ideas, his writing
jumbles my head around), and most of my comments come from a place of unwarranted rage.
One complaint I have is that I think he goes back on his word a lot. The thing is, Machiavelli
shoves so much information down your throat every sentence that everything I've read kind of
melds together in a strange sort of limbo. For example, I'm fairly sure he talks about the
importance of being kind and virtuous in the first reading we did, but in the second a lot of it is
about being merciless. Maybe those were supposed to apply to different situations....show more

That means that I mostly put everything in context of American history, which probably isn't
what Machiavelli would want seeing as his whole book is supposed to be on principalities.
Making a connection to some other historical event really helps me out. For example, normally I
would read the line, "...The enemy will as a matter of course burn and pillage the countryside
when he arrives..." and I would've just been really bummed out by it (Machiavelli 37). But, in
Cold War we just watched a documentary on the Vietnam War. And so, for the rest of the passage
I kept drawing parallels between whatever the hell Machiavelli was talking about and the Vietnam
War. When Machiavelli said, "So the subjects will identify themselves even more with their
prince, since now that their houses have already been burned and their lands pillaged in his
defence they will consider that there is a strong bond of obligation on his part," I got really
excited because that's exactly happened in Vietnam after the U.S. firebombed them a million times
(Machiavelli 37). It's comforting to know that Machiavelli isn't just spewing a bunch of terrible
advice and making the reader fall for it. I really like the book and the ideas so far, I just wish that
someone could put it in some kindergarten–level terminology so I could read

2. In his essay, How You Became You, Bill Bryson explains to his readers how they came to be.
Bryson took an amusing approach to telling his audience on how they came into being. One of the
ways Bryson was able to effectively make his argument was by making the essay have a friendly
tone. Another effective way Bryson was able to get his readers to understand his argument was by
keeping them entertained, and he did this by using personification as well as alliteration. To help
emphasize some of his key points, and to help keep his reader's attention, Bryson used sentence
variety. One of the major points that Bryson makes in his essay is the role of atoms in the formation
of who we are. Bryson also points out how people overlook the importance

3. Research Paper On My Hobbies
With regards to my personal life, I have been particularly blessed to have experienced a joyful and
easy–going life. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and later moved to Ventura, a
city just south of Santa Barbara. As a result, its safe to assume that I've been and will always be a
California kid. The beach was walking distance away from my home and the weather was always
warm and sunny. My family also have been pivotal in instilling a happy demeanor by always
inculcating my psyche with positive attitudes coupled with kind and outgoing manners to people of
all colors, creeds, and nationalities.
Furthermore, I wouldn't that I have a wide array of hobbies, however I more so have a set of
hobbies which I focus on at an extremely high level with a large degree of proficiency. To further
explain, two hobbies that I particularly enjoy are creating and playing music, as well as writing.
With regards to music, I have been playing guitar for over a year now, and I can honestly say it
has had one of the most profound effects upon my life imaginable. Music offers the only outlet
that I can fathom which can allow to forget about the world around me. All the problems I am
having, all the issues of the world that can bog me down, are eliminated because once I pick up the
guitar, I'm essentially one with the instrument, all the focus of my human psyche is upon the music
being played and if it's particularly good, I'll maniacally write it down to preserve it. Which is an

4. Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to
prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing
especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits
in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfectessay, story, letter, and
assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will
improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different
point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting
feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me
improve.
Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on
more often. They always told me they are the essentials of everything thing. Even though I
disliked both at a young age as I grew older I preferred writing because I can always change the
way I write and write from my point of view, really be creative with it and prove my point.
Growing up I always loved writing short stories especially scary stories. I always was creative
with them and even made them realistic. To write an essay I usually have a couple of steps
writing an outline, and the thesis a draft and finally a final draft. The most difficult part about this
is writing the thesis because the whole essay revolves the thesis because it summarizes the whole
essay. At the end of some essays, I had to use citations to do that there were many websites that
helped me cite sources such as easybib which was a really simple process. So, citing sources was
one of the easiest things about writing the essay.
Writing to a teacher is way more complex then writing to a fried or a family member. Writing to a
teacher is way more complex, I must make sure that everything is on point or it reaches the state of
protection. Which is having the right format, a great thesis and really conveying the point of the
essay. Writing to a friend or a family member is much easier I usually don't focus on grammatic
errors or writing a perfect thesis. Today some of us don't

5. I Have Learned About My Writing
I have learned much from this course and I truly believe that I will take much of this information
into my future in education. I learned so much about not only how to write in general, but more
specifically my writing too. I think that the greatest factor about my writing that I realized I need to
work on is preciseness. I have realized that my writing can be "beating around the bush", and
instead of making a paragraph too wordy, I should just get to the point and then analyze. I learned
that a beneficial writing strategy can be overviewing the topic briefly, stating the argument, and
then using supporting details like quotes and examples that back up the original argument. In high
school, I took the International Baccalaureate level of English that my school offered a selected
amount of students from beginning of my junior year to the end of my senior year. In those two
years we focused really on analyzing poems, Shakespearian plays, and a few novels such as Sula,
House of the Spirits, and The Scarlet Letter. We studied intensively how to analyze, annotate, break
each part of the novel and ask "why, what if, how." Everything I took out of IB help me to this very
day when I am reading and examining a novel. However, IB did not teach me how to write a
structured essay, I feel like I learned more how to analyze and verbally express my thoughts. We
did not write much essays and in those two years. Similarly, I read mostly Shakespearian plays and
Elizabeth Bishop poems since

6. Slated Series Analysis
When I first started to read, it was the usual Bif and Chip books, which read "Bif had a key" or
"Chip likes blue ". Then, a few weeks into year 1, I found the Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy,
which ultimately shaped my reading personality. They inspired me to read more challenging books.
It was only through an hour or two of looking through the school library that I found the Harry
Potter series, almost half way through year 4.
JK Rowling had engulfed me in her writing, taking me into the world of Hogwarts. Consequently,
some days the books had to be pried from my hands by an exasperated mum. This didn't stop me,
however. Day and night, night and day, I read whilst I ate, I read whilst I bathed, listening to audio
books when reading was...show more content...
By the time I got to secondary school, six times I had reread the series, and that was when I
realised I needed to read something different. So I went on a book hunt. My secondary school
librarian was extremely helpful, recommending several series to me. My favourite was the Slated
series by Teri Terry.
Slated was a trilogy which was centered on a girl. She lived in a normal city in america. Or at least
she did after she was slated. Slating is an operation given to terrorists or victims of terrorists to
remove part of the brain, the area in which memories are stored. By doing this, all memory of a
previous life vanishes, giving the person a "clean slate" – hence the name. This girl had been slated,
yet she often had dreams of another world. She spoke to no one on this matter, as she knew there
would be severe consequences, and the dreams were sometimes comforting. The stories follow her
as she uncovers the truth of why she was really Slated.
Both of these series have had a significant impact on my reading and personality, as they both
serve lessons of standing up for yourself and finding justice by any means. I think everyone over
the age of 10 should read both these books (even if I was only eight when I read harry potter) as
they will serve lessons to the unconscious mind, shaping children to be proud and independent

7. Reflection On My Writing Skills
Reflection
My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have
changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were
amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are
also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level
that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class,
particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things
all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have.
Throughout this semester there are many skills that I have noticed have improved through the
constant writing of essays for this class. The one that I find most noticeable is a habit I had long
struggled with which was essentially my tendency to be over necessarily wordy when writing my
essays. I believe that I was able to somewhat fix this subconsciously, just by knowing that I was no
longer in high school, and could no longer get by with just attempting to fill up my word count. I
also believe I have greatly improved in my topic selection. In high school I would throw caution to
the wind and just pick whatever topic came to mind just in an effort to get it done. I have been
much more calculated in college, and I believe that it has helped me write better essays. While these

The young boy rolls up his swag and puts it in the old wagon. He has parked in a secluded spot he
has found to camp while on his travels in search of the perfect wave. He loves this car. It is old
and starting to rust but like an old friend it has been with him on all his journeys. He doesn't

10. Essay On Counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves an interactive relationship of client and counsellor
(Geldard & Geldard, 2009a). Counselling offers opportunities for clients to talk to the counsellor
about their problems and feelings in a confidential environment. A counsellor generally helps the
clients to see things from a different perspective and find their own solutions based on their own
beliefs. The primary purpose of counselling is to enable the clients to develop a better
understanding of self and be able to make changes to cope with difficulties in their lives, by
reaching their own decisions and act upon them accordingly to develop a satisfying life (Geldard
& Geldard, 2009a). The self is a summation of a complex, dynamic and organized system of learned
beliefs that a person holds to be true about his own existence and this make human beings unique
(Purkey & Stanley, 2001). Therefore, client–counsellor relationship is unique for each person. To
ensure the effectiveness of counselling, Carl Rogers identified 3 desirable conditions of the
client–counsellor relationship that can be applied throughout the counselling session (Geldard &

Rogers regard empathy as the basis for anything that occurs during a counselling. A counsellor should
be empathic with the client as trusting relationship can be formed when the client feels cared for and

client experienced. In other words, a counsellor should 'walk into the client's shoes' to get a better
understanding of the client. With this trust, the clients might expose their innermost thoughts and
feelings to the

11. My Writing Experience With Writing
All throughout my years of schooling, I've had just about, one paper that was about one page
long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not
have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the
assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many
any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of
them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the
first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat
there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing
came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the
assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments
longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it
was due. As a student, I have always struggled in school and never paid much attention in my
classes. I never had very much motivation to go to school. When I was at school, I never listened
to what the teachers were teaching. I never really paid attention and did my work. Instead I spent
my time in class doodling on my papers. Throughout all of my schooling, I cannot remember a
single year where I have missed less than twenty days of school due to me

an interest in what I am writing. Yet, when the subject matter is not captivating I do not put in
nearly as much effort as I would if my heart was in it. Writing

13. Book Report Great Gatsby
The name of the book that this report describes is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This
story takes place in New York City in the summer of 1922. This time period is often referred to as
"The Roaring Twenties," which was the good time in the United States before the crash of the stock
market in 1929.
The story begins with the move of Nick Carraway from the Midwest to West Egg in the district of
Long Island, New York during the summer of 1922. Nick's point of view is used for the duration
of the story, as he is the main character. West Egg is described as a very wealthy area full of people
who made lots of money very quickly and love to show it off. These people also haven't been rich
long enough to make any social connections, unlike Nick, who has connections in East Egg, where
the more settled rich live. Nick is also not as upscale as his neighbors in West Egg.

intends to take the blame. George Wilson, Myrtle's husband, somehow jumps to the conclusion that
whoever killed his wife was her lover. After discovering the owner of the car involved in the deadly
accident, he sets out to get his revenge.
Nick stops by Gatsby's mansion after work the afternoon after the accident to find that George
Wilson had shot Gatsby and, afterwards, shot himself. Soon after this event, Nick composes a
funeral for Gatsby, parts ways with Jordan Baker, and moves back to the Midwest because of how
revolted he is with New York and the wealthy.
I would recommend this book because of how exceptional the story is. However, I am not enthused
how F. Scott Fitzgerald chose to write it because of the lengthy sentences and words that were
beyond my vocabulary(I had to look up the definition of many words in this book). Overall, I can see
why this book is such a

14. The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay
The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a
topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic.
The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable
about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about,
will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to
challenge yourself and write a paper about something you are novice about, then you want to pick
a topic that is broad enough to find enough information about. For example, if you want to write a
paper about cars, do not make cars what your paper is about, because although it is a broad topic
it is also somewhat narrow. Try to broaden your topic buy changing it to, "how cars have changed
our lives." Changing your topic to a more argumentative thesis gives you a pinpoint area to write
about and leaves the door open to give you more to write about. The second step, and what I believe
to be the most important step is locating sources to support your thesis. A researchessay without
sources becomes an opinion essay, and that is what you as the writer want to stay away from.
Sources make your essay more creditable. If your essay is about "how technology has benefited
students and teachers in the classrooms," then you should find sources that are about how
technology is used in

One way to do this is to use comment tags. Comment tags look like this! "– Tag for comment–" The
real purpose of comment tags is that developers add reminders inside the code that explain what part
of the code works or represents. Below is an example of a well–written comment: "! –The main part
of the article–" If we wrote the keywords in our comment tag: SEO optimization, SEO, optimization

Another popular way to hide content is to use the "nonscript" tag. This tag should be used to notify
the user that the script has been used, but their browsers do not support the script language or have
this feature turned off. Below is an example of "nonscript" tags when used correctly: "Your browser

An example when the nonscript tag is used incorrectly or maliciously is when some service or

Other HTML tags that are misused in similar ways are noframes tags and hidden inputs in the form
of various forms.
The content can also be hidden from the end user by using CSS, extremely small fonts (many letters

My Writing
In the past four years, I have written many papers for various classes, enjoying some and others
having to choke out words to write down. In this memo I will describe my writing projects and
how they made me become a better writer, and how they will continue to help develop me into a

What I Really Learned in English 100
Well as a recent pupil of the Great McFadden I want to do all that I can to be on his good side, for he

can often write many pages about things that I am interested in. I know that I have more learning to
do about writing, and hopefully in the next couple weeks my knowledge of writing will have
expanded and my writing will have improved.
My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research
paper with the intent to change people's minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for
weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough
information to write a ten–page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but
when I had finished, all the hard work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course
such as that you need to search for all the information you can because it is better to have too much
information than not enough. Also that course taught me many things about making references to
the authors of the articles I used for my paper. I remember writing out note card after note card and
keeping all the necessary information about each book or magazine. That course taught me to
become a better writer and to respect how much detail really goes into a research paper like I had
written. Other than that, I have not really had much experience in

1. Which parts of your essay do you feel most closely meet the expectations for exemplary writing
as described in the essay rubric and why?
I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing
paragraphs. My focus, or thesis, most closely meet the expectations because it offers significant
insight that is precise and creatively stated. It also addresses the content requirements and is fully
supported throughout the essay. I like the wording I used for the thesis, and to me it's inspirational.
Secondly, I think that certain parts of my closing are strong, particularly the lessons in perseverance
that I learned from Seth. My grammar and mechanics have fulfilled the definition of exemplary in
the essay rubric as well.

The progress of my writing has consisted of overcoming struggles as well as enhancing my strengths.

numerous elements of writing to establish a clear statement regarding the topic discussed. Elements
that I have been focused on and implemented are the introductions that describe an overview of the

Furthermore, some components that I consider while I'm beginning to write an essay or report is to
always look for evidence that the author presents throughout his argument. It's important to point
out their evidence to either support or a rebuttal and thoughts of your own. Overall, I focus on
creating a quick and simple introduction towards the text I am referring to and assemble a thesis as
well as a cliffhanger to keep the audience engaged. Likewise, I also include is transitions to form
my claims and ideas be associated with each other.
In addition, the organization is also something that I have improved on to have a concrete order to
