Understanding Writing Assignment Summary
Dan Melzer, a former student at Florida State University, discusses a few approaches to succeeding
as a writer in "Understanding Writing Assignments: Tips and Techniques." Melzer addresses seven
methods to do well as a writer; whether that be in school or the workplace. To shortly summarize the
tips, Melzer explores ways that students can help themselves by using their resources. Also, by
analyzing the questions and instructions that a teacher asks of the class. He goes on to say that it is
also important for the writer to figure out who the audience is. This will ultimately determine the
writing style. Basically, if the writer is aware of the audience then he/she will execute the writing
assignment differently than if he/she were to just make assumptions of who...show more content...
I completely agree with Melzer on this. If I know that my audience is only my teacher then I will
attempt to sound more professional than if I knew that my audience were people my age, where
I can write in a way that will appeal to them. Although, I think that the most muddiest tip out of
the rest was Tip #1. Melzer basically says to look for key verbs in an assignment, such as
summarize and evaluate. I sort of thought this tip was useless. He tries to explain why the tip is
useful, but after reading it I came to the conclusion that it's just basically overthinking since at the
end of the day it's all just common sense. Summarize and Evaluate will always have the same
definition, so if an instructor says, "Hey, summarize this," you should know what summarize means.
Although, if you want more information and know exactly what is expected then you should ask,
but I just feel as though that's doing way too much and overworking yourself (even though I will
still do this from time to time.) After reading Melzer's tips I have come up with my own in
succeeding as a

Essay about Choosing a Right Career Path
Choosing a right career path can be tough. Especially, when the parents are involved. Parents want
their children to have a better life in the future so they want their children to be educated. When
they are successfully graduate from the college they can get a high paying job and earn much
more than their parents. However, does everyone listen and follow their parents' decisions about
the career? What happen if kids didn't want what their parents told them to do? Is there a
compromise and or one side needs to give in? It was a tough decision for me too. There was a lot
of pressure on me. I was hesitated and somehow worried when my parents were involved, but I
knew what I want for my career. It was the last summer I spent with my high...show more content...
My explanation somehow did not work well. I started struggling between my career and my father's
"career". Before it was too late to decide my major, I gave a chance for myself and picked something
related to my future career. Before I told my parents I had decided to be a graphic designer, I did a
little research on the job. It was good, but required lots experiences to get in a decent game company
like Riot. But I did not stick with one job. I also heard of 3D modeling, programming and animation
were good choices for me and I liked them too. I decided to go to City Tech College for four years
education in Emerging Media major and I hoped I could get a job I like to do. According to the
article "As Income Gap Widens, New York Grows Apart" written by James Parrott, college educated
young workers' earning has fallen 6% since 1990. And it's false that those who pursue higher
education and skills can get a higher economic reword. Everything is competitive now; the value
of education does not count toward our future income earning. I realize that even if I graduated
from the college there was higher chance I would not have a job or a job that I did not expect and
paid very low. However, I do like what I do right now in my major class. I think if you did what you
want and be happy with it, it doesn't matter how low you get paid you still fulfill in your life. After
exploring some my major classes in my first semester in

Life Essay : Choosing The Right Path In Life
Choosing the Right Path in Life
Thorough out life we need to choose a path in life. This is the hardest decision we can make
because this is what determines our future and not choosing the right one can lead to poverty or
sadness for the rest of our lives. Choosing between our parents can be one decision but which parent
do we chose? We love both of them equally but how will they feel when you pick the other?
Another issue is choosing what to do with your life in total. Not all of us know what we want to
do in life and our parents just telling us to do what's best doesn't always help. Which path do we
take? How do we know what's better for us? Even having to choose can lead to sadness, so what do
we do?
What is best? This is a question that all of us ask ourselves throughout our life times numerous
times. Choosing what is best for us is hard because we don't know what will work out perfectly and
what we will fail to achieve. In the short story The Boat the only boy in the family is not being told
what to do. His parents have expectations for him to follow but it is his decision on which one to
chose. One parent will end up being disappointed but it is what the boy thinks is right to do. The boys
mother wants him to follow in her family's footsteps. She wants him to continue in the life of the
boat and not the city like his father wants him to. At the end of the day it is what the boy thinks is
right and what makes him happy. In the short story Mother To Son the boy does

Why Did I Choose This Project?
Investigating Why did I choose this project? I chose 'Drawing with the Left hand' as my project
because I greatly enjoy art, and have always wished to challenge myself with learning different
things. Drawing is one of the things I enjoy most, and I had always been curious about the thought of
switching to my non–dominant hand because of how peculiar it would be to know how to do
something in terms of knowledge, and yet not to be able to do so because of the physical
inability to do so. Deciding that this would be an interesting, challenging project whose topic I
am passionate about, I felt this would be a good choice for my personal project. What prior
learning did I have that is relevant to the project? Prior to this project, I had already acquired the
knowledge of knowing how to draw with my right hand, which was incredibly helpful as I had
already learned what techniques were useful in drawing and which mistakes to avoid making.
This made the process of learning how to draw with my left hand far easier, for I was able to
apply what I had learned with my right hand to my left and therefore improve more quickly than I
could have otherwise. I had also previously known small sections of the science behind the brain
and how it works, from how the left and right hemispheres of the brain are connected to the
opposite side of the body and how each side of the brain has specific "functions". I investigated
more about this topic during the length of my project, to see if I

How will college change my life
"How will college change my life?" Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to
college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future
working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of
learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth
workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of
study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working
world. Flexibility with learning and providing me with the option to choose what interests me, being
treated as an adult by taking responsibility for one's own actions...show more content...
As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between
a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in
life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally.
The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An
adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule
is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool.
College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set
a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's
help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the
best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and
expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to
me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a
chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can
develop life skills outside academics, to be fully

Argumentative Essay On Changing Time
In this argumentative essay will be talking about weather to change the time to later on or not. I
have disagreed for changing the time to later on and so does the parents but the district does not
agree to that they want to change the time for us teens. But the districts don't realize what the time
can cause for us teens. The things can cause damage to us as said in the article. The damage it can
cause is the lack of sleep which is gives us a reason to stay up late when the time move to later on
around 8:30. Also deprivation which leads to anxiety, lack of motivation, and depression symptoms
and mostly risky behaviors.
Due to the counter argument it wants to have the time change. They should have it changed
because it will give us teens to have more time to get ready. Not only that most of us won't always
be ready because around 8:00 we mostly get tartied. But due to 8:30 we won't and I know that for
a fact because we are gonna have plenty of time to get ready. The time they give us when they
change it to 8:30 it's gonna change everything but it will give us lots of time to do what we need to

complaints. The other thing for that is with all the complaints due to that process it can't be
confirmed because with all the unsupportive people it can't turn out like that. But if they do change
the time most parents might be thinking to take their kid out of the school because the staff will be

The main reason why I wanted to study Law was the importance it takes in the world. Law builds
civilization, protect fundamental rights and protect ideas and inventions through patenting. Anyone
can defend his or her right through the legal system. Law can bind an agreement to allow an

Essay on Choosing a Major
Choosing a Major
Education is a very broad and difficult term and no two people define it the same way, but most
would agree that you do get an education in college. Many colleges pride themselves on developing
"well–rounded" students, and yet they make it mandatory for each student to choose one field of
specified study. This seems to contradict the whole "well–rounded" idea. Education can't be confined
to just academics. In fact, here is how the dictionary defines academics "very learned but
inexperienced in practical matters, conforming to the traditions or rules of a school." I don't want to
be "considered inexperienced in practical matters." I know the dictionary definitions aren't exactly
what everyone sees as the right...show more content...
How can you focus on one subject and still have a good understanding of everything. This is a
mission statement from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio: "The goal is for Antioch students
to become intelligent experimenters, informed risk–takers, creative thinkers, and courageous
practitioners. Antioch College encourages its students to have a balanced respect for all of life–self,
others, society, and the earth." They also state that "students plan their own education, reflect upon
their experiences, and broaden their perspectives." They don't make students choose one area to
study. Is this what you consider "well–rounded"? This is how the same dictionary defines the term
well–rounded: "fully or broadly developed, having a broad educational background." If that is all
"well–rounded" means, then a lot of people meet these qualifications, but I see it as more than just
"broad educational background." Someone could attend many different colleges and would that

Descriptive Essay About A Vampire
The techno music is bumping in the official vampire community dance club where vampires and
vampirettes come together for their ritualistic weekend fun during daylight hours. I see Lanzone
feeding his pet werewolf at the bar with friends while playing beer pong. I shake my head with
disgust at how some vampires take on human activities. The waitresses are walking around serving
drinks mixed with blood and champagne, which we call 'Bloody Marys', to anyone willing to take a
glass and toast to good times. I prefer a Super Bloody Mary where the blood is dripping off the side
of the glass with a strawberry inside. Everyone is dressed to impress in their fashionable capes and
women wearing tight latex or leather suites, some black and red, violet and black, but most have
some hints of black because that is a vampire's favorite color. We are all having a good time. I take
a look at my watch and notice that it is about 5pm in the afternoon, really late in vampire terms,
only 4 hours until darknesses and the day starts. Then, suddenly, Brezina comes busting through the
doors looking sexy as ever, dressed in a skintight latex suit gripping every part of her body
comfortably. A perfect match to her long dark flowing hair, distinctive vampirette makeup pattern,
and the softest, milky skin I have ever laid eyes on. She is the most delectable treat that other
vampirettes are jealous of. Even the boys, including Lanzone at the bar stop his festivities to take a
long lustful look at her.

A Writer 's Choices By Andrea A. Lunsford
In Chapter 1 "A Writer 's Choices", of Andrea A. Lunsford 's book Easy Writer, she outlines the
choices that writers need to prepare for in academic situations. Lunsford explains the differences
between social and academic writing and that it is important for a writer to effortlessly transition
from informal to formal writing conditions. Lunsford continues with informing writers of the
expectations in academic writing. To write with authority, directness and clarity are necessary in any
high–quality academic writing. The author claims that having these items is so vital that she even
lists several strategies within the chapter to meet this goal. While, it is important to have a clear
text Lunsford also tells writers to consider an assignment and the reasoning behind the task.
Lunsford requests that writers analyze an assignment to better understand a professor 's
expectation; so the writer will be successful with the intended project. Next Lunsford explains
how to choose a topic for an essay; however, she claims it is best to let it choose you by picking a
topic that interests the author. After selecting a topic, Lunsford goes on to help a writer focus the
text of an essay to reach their targeted audience. Lunsford wrote a list of questions a writer can ask
to ensure their ability to communicate effectively. Now Lunsford asks writers to take into account
their stance and tone. Once a writer knows the position in which they wish to approach a topic; at
that point the writer

Summary Of Terry Tempest Williams 'Why I Write'
"Why I Write" Essay In Terry Tempest Williams' essay, "Why I Write," she uses metaphors to
represent the risk of being criticized while writing, but also having the courage to publish anyway.
She tells the audience about how writing can be very risky when she states, "I write knowing I can
be killed by my own words, stabbed by syntax, crucified by both understanding and
misunderstanding" (Williams 7). Williams uses metaphors to represent that people will criticize
whether they know the true meaning of what you're writing or not. In the example related to being
killed by own words, you can tell that she is trying to show that any type of criticism will hurt you
deeply no matter how much they know you or not. You can also see from the citation that she is
trying to show off an example of courage because it says that you're crucified by both
understanding and misunderstanding and that means that they might just be saying what they are,
just to say it, but you have to learn to move past it because nevertheless, people will be cruel and
you have to persevere through it. Williams displays in this example that writing is a risky
experience and everything can hurt you from the quote, "and then I realize, it doesn't matter, words
are always a gamble, words are splinters from the cut glass" (Williams 7). In this instance, Williams
uses metaphors to show that writing is a big risk; she also compares it to the words hurting. Her use
of metaphors really captivates this idea of risk by comparing it to a gamble and that the words
can hurt by the comparison to splinters from glass which can lead into my next point. You also can
see from this citation when it talks about it not mattering and that is showing that no matter what
anybody says, you should have confidence in yourself and just publish anyway because there are
going to people who like it and people who criticize it, but you just have to have confidence in
yourself and put it out there and just write to write. "Why I Write," by Terry Tempest Williams, is an
essay that elaborates on the idea that people will criticize and realm of work in the world, but you
must learn that despite what people may think, it's your own personal confidence that is going to
help you

Descriptive Essay About Horses
My Symbol
Everyone has a symbol, something that has come to represent all that they are and all that they
hope to become. To understand the true heart and soul of a person, one must first understand who it
is that they hope to become. As George Bernard Shaw once said, "Life is not about finding yourself,
it is about creating yourself." All people have something they strive toward and hope to become.
Horses have become for me the symbol of everything I want to be in life, strength, determination, and
compassion.
Throughout the ages horses have been a powerful symbol of strength and fearlessness. Equines are
some of the mightiest creatures in the world. It was the strength of the horse that helped to
revolutionize the world as we know it. Able to carry over thirty percent of their body weight and
pull over one hundred and fifty percent of their body weight, horses are an impressive symbol of
physical strength. Many stories and paintings have depicted the incredible power that horses
represent. Correspondingly, Job 39:19–22 says, "Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck
with a flowing mane? Do you make it leap like a locust, striking terror with its proud snorting? It
paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray. It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing;
it does not shy away from the sword." Yet what inspires me most about their wonderful animals is
not their physical qualities, it is simply the fact that horses of all shapes, sizes, and

Making the Right Choices Essay
It may take many people to realize that the decisions they make today could possibly affect the
outcome tomorrow and even later in life. When we are children, our parents and guardians are
responsible for properly guiding us to make the right choices, they are the people who are
supposed to teach us right from wrong and in most cases they are the people who reveals the
many harsh realities of the world to us. Through childhood we may not worry about how the bills
will get paid, or what job we will have when we are adults because for many people the answer to
those questions often change with time. As we grow older it is up to us to follow their guidance
and learn from what they have taught us and live in a society as one. Life is full of...show more

Mourning also suggests that, "There are often doubts in life, but you will have to stand up and
attack what is attacking you. Meet force with force. You have to learn as much as you can, come
up with a plan, and be positive" (Mourning, pg. 14). It is important for everyone to be persistent in
life and when faced with a difficult task think positive and attack what is stopping you from what
your trying to achieve. When faced with an illness, Mourning's outlook was to fight the disease
and succeed. Like many adolescents who are faced with peer pressure of drugs Mourning had
experienced one of the college players he looked up to had died from a cocaine overdose, "If
drugs could take down a guy like that, if drugs could take Len Bias's life, then they could take me
down, too" (Mourning pg. 42). Though Mourning was gifted with the ability to play basketball
and was raised by a foster mother and kept in touch with his parents he said, "I was once naive and
trusted everyone, and is almost cost me everything" (Mourning, pg. 53). For most of the book, I
agree with these suggestions but there is one aspect of Mourning's decisions that I highly
disagreed with; In Chapter 4, Mourning discusses how he was freshly 18 years old and that he had
"learned how to not be skeptical of everything and everyone" (Mourning, pg. 59). Being skeptical of
people is not a bad thing in many people's opinions. In life we are faced

Chapter 1 1. The difference between opinion and facts is that an opinion can be used as a topic of
an essay. An opinion makes the essay more interesting for the reader. However, facts can not be

Persuasive Essay On Choosing A College
Deciding on a college is a stressful time in any student's life. All students deal with stress about their
future after high school, regardless of whether they plan for college or not. Some may think that
students are making the decision into something more difficult than it has to be; however, this is an
incredibly important time in any student's life. It entails a lot of thought. Like putting on makeup,
deciding on a school requires effort and creativity, but both can show who a person is. Choosing a
school requires hard work and preparation, creativity for students to express themselves, and freedom
to decide exactly what they want. To qualify for certain colleges, students must be focused
throughout high school. Some schools can be selective on who they accept while others have high
acceptance rates; some schools require classes that others do not. Students need to put in the effort
and dedication to qualify for the schools they believe would be the best fit. For these students,
grades are not something they can only put partial effort into. To maintain their grades, students
keep track of their assignments and work hard throughout all of high school. Students get the option
to be creative while choosing their schools because whatever school is chosen will be used to
express themselves. After choosing a school, the student will strongly align themselves with that
school. Schools offer merchandise because when students like a school they want to represent it;
thus proves that many people use schools' names or logos as a means to express themselves.
However, for prospective students finding a school to align with can be stressful. They have to know
exactly what traits they desire. One thing people may consider: community college or university.
Some go to community college because they are unsure of their major; some go to trade schools
because they only want to learn skills for a certain job; some go straight to a four–year university;
some students do not go to any college. A person's choice in their education depends on their
personal preferences: how much work they are willing to put in, who they want to align with, and
freedom to choose what they want to do.
Similarly, makeup requires a lot of

Critical Thinking Involved In Choosing A Major
Choosing an academy major somewhat entails much thought and thoughtfulness. Nevertheless, it is
the first thing toward developing a foundation that you will continue to shape on for the remainder
of one's life. Some people, before getting to college know exactly what they want to study (major).
But wait, If I may ask, was critical thinking involved in choosing this major? There are thousands of
majors out there to choose from and it doesn't matter what you are majoring in. The most important
aspect of choosing any major is looking beyond what people around you are majoring in, weigh
your ability to perform in the chosen major, then ask self–questions like, what are the opportunities
that await me? How will my major benefit me, people around me, and the society at large? Do I
have the potential needed to climb to the top of my career in this major? Do I have financial
resources? These and many more self–questions will help in thinking deeply before choosing the

you, and you as a student must take charge and "take the bull by the horns". Your determination to
succeed will help you excel in college. Be mentally and physically ready. You must involve critical

Choosing A Topic For An Essay

  • 1. Understanding Writing Assignment Summary Dan Melzer, a former student at Florida State University, discusses a few approaches to succeeding as a writer in "Understanding Writing Assignments: Tips and Techniques." Melzer addresses seven methods to do well as a writer; whether that be in school or the workplace. To shortly summarize the tips, Melzer explores ways that students can help themselves by using their resources. Also, by analyzing the questions and instructions that a teacher asks of the class. He goes on to say that it is also important for the writer to figure out who the audience is. This will ultimately determine the writing style. Basically, if the writer is aware of the audience then he/she will execute the writing assignment differently than if he/she were to just make assumptions of who...show more content... I completely agree with Melzer on this. If I know that my audience is only my teacher then I will attempt to sound more professional than if I knew that my audience were people my age, where I can write in a way that will appeal to them. Although, I think that the most muddiest tip out of the rest was Tip #1. Melzer basically says to look for key verbs in an assignment, such as summarize and evaluate. I sort of thought this tip was useless. He tries to explain why the tip is useful, but after reading it I came to the conclusion that it's just basically overthinking since at the end of the day it's all just common sense. Summarize and Evaluate will always have the same definition, so if an instructor says, "Hey, summarize this," you should know what summarize means. Although, if you want more information and know exactly what is expected then you should ask, but I just feel as though that's doing way too much and overworking yourself (even though I will still do this from time to time.) After reading Melzer's tips I have come up with my own in succeeding as a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay about Choosing a Right Career Path Choosing a right career path can be tough. Especially, when the parents are involved. Parents want their children to have a better life in the future so they want their children to be educated. When they are successfully graduate from the college they can get a high paying job and earn much more than their parents. However, does everyone listen and follow their parents' decisions about the career? What happen if kids didn't want what their parents told them to do? Is there a compromise and or one side needs to give in? It was a tough decision for me too. There was a lot of pressure on me. I was hesitated and somehow worried when my parents were involved, but I knew what I want for my career. It was the last summer I spent with my high...show more content... My explanation somehow did not work well. I started struggling between my career and my father's "career". Before it was too late to decide my major, I gave a chance for myself and picked something related to my future career. Before I told my parents I had decided to be a graphic designer, I did a little research on the job. It was good, but required lots experiences to get in a decent game company like Riot. But I did not stick with one job. I also heard of 3D modeling, programming and animation were good choices for me and I liked them too. I decided to go to City Tech College for four years education in Emerging Media major and I hoped I could get a job I like to do. According to the article "As Income Gap Widens, New York Grows Apart" written by James Parrott, college educated young workers' earning has fallen 6% since 1990. And it's false that those who pursue higher education and skills can get a higher economic reword. Everything is competitive now; the value of education does not count toward our future income earning. I realize that even if I graduated from the college there was higher chance I would not have a job or a job that I did not expect and paid very low. However, I do like what I do right now in my major class. I think if you did what you want and be happy with it, it doesn't matter how low you get paid you still fulfill in your life. After exploring some my major classes in my first semester in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Life Essay : Choosing The Right Path In Life Choosing the Right Path in Life Thorough out life we need to choose a path in life. This is the hardest decision we can make because this is what determines our future and not choosing the right one can lead to poverty or sadness for the rest of our lives. Choosing between our parents can be one decision but which parent do we chose? We love both of them equally but how will they feel when you pick the other? Another issue is choosing what to do with your life in total. Not all of us know what we want to do in life and our parents just telling us to do what's best doesn't always help. Which path do we take? How do we know what's better for us? Even having to choose can lead to sadness, so what do we do? What is best? This is a question that all of us ask ourselves throughout our life times numerous times. Choosing what is best for us is hard because we don't know what will work out perfectly and what we will fail to achieve. In the short story The Boat the only boy in the family is not being told what to do. His parents have expectations for him to follow but it is his decision on which one to chose. One parent will end up being disappointed but it is what the boy thinks is right to do. The boys mother wants him to follow in her family's footsteps. She wants him to continue in the life of the boat and not the city like his father wants him to. At the end of the day it is what the boy thinks is right and what makes him happy. In the short story Mother To Son the boy does Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Why Did I Choose This Project? Investigating Why did I choose this project? I chose 'Drawing with the Left hand' as my project because I greatly enjoy art, and have always wished to challenge myself with learning different things. Drawing is one of the things I enjoy most, and I had always been curious about the thought of switching to my non–dominant hand because of how peculiar it would be to know how to do something in terms of knowledge, and yet not to be able to do so because of the physical inability to do so. Deciding that this would be an interesting, challenging project whose topic I am passionate about, I felt this would be a good choice for my personal project. What prior learning did I have that is relevant to the project? Prior to this project, I had already acquired the knowledge of knowing how to draw with my right hand, which was incredibly helpful as I had already learned what techniques were useful in drawing and which mistakes to avoid making. This made the process of learning how to draw with my left hand far easier, for I was able to apply what I had learned with my right hand to my left and therefore improve more quickly than I could have otherwise. I had also previously known small sections of the science behind the brain and how it works, from how the left and right hemispheres of the brain are connected to the opposite side of the body and how each side of the brain has specific "functions". I investigated more about this topic during the length of my project, to see if I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. How will college change my life "How will college change my life?" Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working world. Flexibility with learning and providing me with the option to choose what interests me, being treated as an adult by taking responsibility for one's own actions...show more content... As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally. The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool. College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree. College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. • 6. Argumentative Essay On Changing Time In this argumentative essay will be talking about weather to change the time to later on or not. I have disagreed for changing the time to later on and so does the parents but the district does not agree to that they want to change the time for us teens. But the districts don't realize what the time can cause for us teens. The things can cause damage to us as said in the article. The damage it can cause is the lack of sleep which is gives us a reason to stay up late when the time move to later on around 8:30. Also deprivation which leads to anxiety, lack of motivation, and depression symptoms and mostly risky behaviors. Due to the counter argument it wants to have the time change. They should have it changed because it will give us teens to have more time to get ready. Not only that most of us won't always be ready because around 8:00 we mostly get tartied. But due to 8:30 we won't and I know that for a fact because we are gonna have plenty of time to get ready. The time they give us when they change it to 8:30 it's gonna change everything but it will give us lots of time to do what we need to do....show more content... • 8. Essay on Choosing a Major Choosing a Major Education is a very broad and difficult term and no two people define it the same way, but most would agree that you do get an education in college. Many colleges pride themselves on developing "well–rounded" students, and yet they make it mandatory for each student to choose one field of specified study. This seems to contradict the whole "well–rounded" idea. Education can't be confined to just academics. In fact, here is how the dictionary defines academics "very learned but inexperienced in practical matters, conforming to the traditions or rules of a school." I don't want to be "considered inexperienced in practical matters." I know the dictionary definitions aren't exactly what everyone sees as the right...show more content... How can you focus on one subject and still have a good understanding of everything. Antioch College encourages its students to have a balanced respect for all of life–self, others, society, and the earth." They also state that "students plan their own education, reflect upon their experiences, and broaden their perspectives." They don't make students choose one area to study. Is this what you consider "well–rounded"? This is how the same dictionary defines the term well–rounded: "fully or broadly developed, having a broad educational background." If that is all "well–rounded" means, then a lot of people meet these qualifications, but I see it as more than just "broad educational background." • 9. Descriptive Essay About A Vampire The techno music is bumping in the official vampire community dance club where vampires and vampirettes come together for their ritualistic weekend fun during daylight hours. I see Lanzone feeding his pet werewolf at the bar with friends while playing beer pong. I shake my head with disgust at how some vampires take on human activities. The waitresses are walking around serving drinks mixed with blood and champagne, which we call 'Bloody Marys', to anyone willing to take a glass and toast to good times. I prefer a Super Bloody Mary where the blood is dripping off the side of the glass with a strawberry inside. Everyone is dressed to impress in their fashionable capes and women wearing tight latex or leather suites, some black and red, violet and black, but most have some hints of black because that is a vampire's favorite color. We are all having a good time. I take a look at my watch and notice that it is about 5pm in the afternoon, really late in vampire terms, only 4 hours until darknesses and the day starts. Then, suddenly, Brezina comes busting through the doors looking sexy as ever, dressed in a skintight latex suit gripping every part of her body comfortably. A perfect match to her long dark flowing hair, distinctive vampirette makeup pattern, and the softest, milky skin I have ever laid eyes on. She is the most delectable treat that other vampirettes are jealous of. Even the boys, including Lanzone at the bar stop his festivities to take a long lustful look at her. • 10. A Writer 's Choices By Andrea A. Lunsford In Chapter 1 "A Writer 's Choices", of Andrea A. Lunsford 's book Easy Writer, she outlines the choices that writers need to prepare for in academic situations. Lunsford explains the differences between social and academic writing and that it is important for a writer to effortlessly transition from informal to formal writing conditions. Lunsford continues with informing writers of the expectations in academic writing. To write with authority, directness and clarity are necessary in any high–quality academic writing. The author claims that having these items is so vital that she even lists several strategies within the chapter to meet this goal. While, it is important to have a clear text Lunsford also tells writers to consider an assignment and the reasoning behind the task. Lunsford requests that writers analyze an assignment to better understand a professor 's expectation; so the writer will be successful with the intended project. Next Lunsford explains how to choose a topic for an essay; however, she claims it is best to let it choose you by picking a topic that interests the author. After selecting a topic, Lunsford goes on to help a writer focus the text of an essay to reach their targeted audience. Lunsford wrote a list of questions a writer can ask to ensure their ability to communicate effectively. Now Lunsford asks writers to take into account their stance and tone. • 12. Summary Of Terry Tempest Williams 'Why I Write' "Why I Write" Essay In Terry Tempest Williams' essay, "Why I Write," she uses metaphors to represent the risk of being criticized while writing, but also having the courage to publish anyway. She tells the audience about how writing can be very risky when she states, "I write knowing I can be killed by my own words, stabbed by syntax, crucified by both understanding and misunderstanding" (Williams 7). Williams uses metaphors to represent that people will criticize whether they know the true meaning of what you're writing or not. In the example related to being killed by own words, you can tell that she is trying to show that any type of criticism will hurt you deeply no matter how much they know you or not. You can also see from the citation that she is trying to show off an example of courage because it says that you're crucified by both understanding and misunderstanding and that means that they might just be saying what they are, just to say it, but you have to learn to move past it because nevertheless, people will be cruel and you have to persevere through it. Williams displays in this example that writing is a risky experience and everything can hurt you from the quote, "and then I realize, it doesn't matter, words are always a gamble, words are splinters from the cut glass" (Williams 7). In this instance, Williams uses metaphors to show that writing is a big risk; she also compares it to the words hurting. Her use of metaphors really captivates this idea of risk by comparing it to a gamble and that the words can hurt by the comparison to splinters from glass which can lead into my next point. You also can see from this citation when it talks about it not mattering and that is showing that no matter what anybody says, you should have confidence in yourself and just publish anyway because there are going to people who like it and people who criticize it, but you just have to have confidence in yourself and put it out there and just write to write. "Why I Write," by Terry Tempest Williams, is an essay that elaborates on the idea that people will criticize and realm of work in the world, but you must learn that despite what people may think, it's your own personal confidence that is going to help you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Descriptive Essay About Horses My Symbol Everyone has a symbol, something that has come to represent all that they are and all that they hope to become. To understand the true heart and soul of a person, one must first understand who it is that they hope to become. As George Bernard Shaw once said, "Life is not about finding yourself, it is about creating yourself." All people have something they strive toward and hope to become. Horses have become for me the symbol of everything I want to be in life, strength, determination, and compassion. Throughout the ages horses have been a powerful symbol of strength and fearlessness. Equines are some of the mightiest creatures in the world. It was the strength of the horse that helped to revolutionize the world as we know it. Able to carry over thirty percent of their body weight and pull over one hundred and fifty percent of their body weight, horses are an impressive symbol of physical strength. Many stories and paintings have depicted the incredible power that horses represent. Correspondingly, Job 39:19–22 says, "Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane? Do you make it leap like a locust, striking terror with its proud snorting? It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray. It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; it does not shy away from the sword." Yet what inspires me most about their wonderful animals is not their physical qualities, it is simply the fact that horses of all shapes, sizes, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When we are children, our parents and guardians are responsible for properly guiding us to make the right choices, they are the people who are supposed to teach us right from wrong and in most cases they are the people who reveals the many harsh realities of the world to us. Through childhood we may not worry about how the bills will get paid, or what job we will have when we are adults because for many people the answer to those questions often change with time. As we grow older it is up to us to follow their guidance and learn from what they have taught us and live in a society as one. Life is full of...show more content... Mourning also suggests that, "There are often doubts in life, but you will have to stand up and attack what is attacking you. Meet force with force. You have to learn as much as you can, come up with a plan, and be positive" (Mourning, pg. 14). It is important for everyone to be persistent in life and when faced with a difficult task think positive and attack what is stopping you from what your trying to achieve. When faced with an illness, Mourning's outlook was to fight the disease and succeed. Like many adolescents who are faced with peer pressure of drugs Mourning had experienced one of the college players he looked up to had died from a cocaine overdose, "If drugs could take down a guy like that, if drugs could take Len Bias's life, then they could take me down, too" (Mourning pg. 42). Though Mourning was gifted with the ability to play basketball and was raised by a foster mother and kept in touch with his parents he said, "I was once naive and trusted everyone, and is almost cost me everything" (Mourning, pg. 53). For most of the book, I agree with these suggestions but there is one aspect of Mourning's decisions that I highly disagreed with; In Chapter 4, Mourning discusses how he was freshly 18 years old and that he had "learned how to not be skeptical of everything and everyone" (Mourning, pg. 59). Being skeptical of people is not a bad thing in many people's opinions. In life we are faced Get more content on HelpWriting.net

However, facts can not be used as a topic since there will be no one to persuade, making the essay less interesting 2.
